“Stop it, Maddy.”
Daemon pushed Maddy’s face away from him and stood up from his swivel chair. He has just read another show cause order from the court regarding yet another investigation on one of his casinos.
“Why? You are enjoying it, right? These things, these wild things I could give you, you cannot have this from your naïve wife.”
She continued to hover him, trying to kiss his neck and lips but he managed to push her away again.
“Don’t talk with my wife like that.”
He went to the wine bar to pour himself a drink. Devon is back in the house trying to do everything to find their missing daughter. He wanted to be with her now to help her but the issues hounding his business is keeping him busy on top of his prior engagements outside.
Maddy didn’t stop. She walked up to him and touched his arm seductively.
“I know you’re too busy with the investigation of your businesses and finding your daughter plus your wife isn’t even understanding any of this. She just sits in your house waiting for you to do all the things for her. Aren’t you too tired for that, Daemon?” She clung into his neck and playfully nudged her lips to his ear. “I’m here for you. Always. Rely on me for once just like what we always do for each other. Lean on me and I’ll help you with everything.”
Narrowing his eyes, he put the glass down on the counter and stared down at her hard.
“What do you mean? Where is this getting into?”
Maddy smiled inwardly thinking to herself that Daemon wanted back her assistance. He can’t ditch her easily, that’s what she thought. They’ve been through thick and thin.
“I’m only telling you to let me do the searching for Emily. I will help. After all, we’ve been partners since then. I won’t let you down, my love.”
With a shake of the head, he went back into his table after dousing all the contents of the glass.
“Maddy, while I appreciate your concern, I’ll have to decline. This is some family matters. I don’t want any outsider to be meddling in our affairs.”
She opened her mouth wide in shock. “Wait, what did you just call me? An outsider. Wow! That’s a harsh word. If there’s an outsider in this relationship, then that’s definitely not me. It’s Devon. She stole you away from me.”
“I don’t know why I’m still talking to you. I think I’ve been too much of a gentleman with you knowing our history together.” His lips formed into a thin line. “I still haven’t forgotten what you did to my wife. You hurt her so much that I cannot ever forgive you. What we have now is just purely on a professional level. I cannot allow you to be near her again.
Pain crossed Maddy’s eyes and she didn’t bother to conceal it. What for? Daemon can already read her like a transparent glass.
“Look who’s talking. We both hurt her, Daemon. It’s not just me. You inflicted her pain more than what I did. How could you still face her after being too much of a savage to her? She didn’t deserve you. You and me. We deserve each other. We’re meant to be!”
“Yes, I admit that what I did to her is unforgivable. That’s why I’m doing everything in my ability to ask for her forgiveness, to make up for all the horrible things I’ve done to her. I’ll start with finding our daughter to complete my family.”
Silent tears fell out from her eyes. “But you promised me that we’ll be together after all of this! You promised me, Daemon. I’ve never loved anyone in my life other than you! Why are you doing this to me?! Don’t abandon me, Daemon. You promised your father!”
His face went dark. “I didn’t promise anything about that. I only said I’ll protect you.”
“Then protect me by loving me for real. Why are you always pushing me away? Since you married that woman, you’ve never been in bed with me. What’s so special about that daughter of the enemy that you kept falling for her since then?”
He fell silent for a while before responding. “She’s Devon that’s why.”
Maddy smirked bitterly and took her purse on the sofa after gently wiping her tears to prevent her make-up from smearing her face.
“Okay, if that’s what you want. I won’t stay still anymore while you try to fix your broken family. I’ll show you exactly what kind of woman I have become these past years. I’ll make you see what kind of woman you just rejected. You’ll want me back in your life, Daemon.”
Her threat didn’t sit well with Daemon who put his gun on the table while staring grimly at her.
“I already know who you are, Maddy. Do anything to me but never touch my wife and my daughter. I don’t care even if you’re the only real friend I have. I’ll kill you with my bare hands.”
Maddy left without saying another word again. He let out a sigh and reached for his phone to call his wife but she’s not picking up.
Worried, he got his coat and went out of his office running towards his car. He knows how Maddy works. She doesn’t threaten people unless she has already thought about it hundreds of times. She’s just like him sometimes.
He almost hit a block on the road when his thoughts had gone astray. When he arrived in the mansion, he ran to his room expecting to see Devon but to his shock, she wasn’t there.
“Devon?! Devon?!” he called, his voice a little panicking.
He’s ready to call every one of his army to look for her when he sees her going upstairs from the kitchen carrying a bottle of water.
“Hey, you forgot something?” she asked, chewing a sandwich in her hand.
He walked briskly unto her meeting her in the middle of the staircase and gathering her into his arms. He wrapped his arms around her tightly and kissed her head.
“Are you alright? Did anything happen today?” His breathing slowly went back to normal.
“No, no. Why?” Devon asked, wondering why he’s acting like this.
Instead of answering, he cupped her face and kissed her lips passionately pouring out all his fears on it.
“Nothing. I’m just asking.”
He hugged her back and buried his face into her hair.
“Don’t worry. I’m not leaving you, Daemon.”
Somehow, her statement made him more scared.
