Tina’s hand had remained in the air for about ten seconds.
Seeing this, Abby quickly reminded her son, “Ethan, don’t just stand there. Hurried up! Say ‘thank you’ to grandpa.”
Though Ethan didn’t say anything, his face was full of reluctance. But he was still obedient to Abby’s words. He reached out, took Tina’s so-called welcome gift, and said, “Thank you!”
Tina smiled again. Then he pulled Eva over, and introduced to Ethan, “Ethan, this is your aunt Eva.”
A trace of vigilance quickly emerged in Ethan’s twinkling big eyes. He hid behind Abby again. After being prompted gently by Abby, he finally spoke, “Hello, auntie.”
Eva also curved up her mouth to make a smile, though she did not behave enthusiastic as her mother.
At dinner, Tina kept asking Abby some questions to show her care, and constantly put food to the plates of Abby and Ethan. So did Tim. He had asked Abby how she was going these years.
Abby answered their questions one by one.
The big family seemed so enjoyable and harmonious.
But Abby still considered that there was something wrong.
She actually knew her stepmother and sister so well. They always hated her a lot, but now… Looking at Tina’s sincere smile, Abby was thinking if she had been too suspicious.
In the half of the dinner, Tina asked, “Abby, where do you live after you come back?”
“I lived in Elaine’s house temporarily.”
“Elaine?” Tina repeated and realized something. “Oh, you mean that ‘Elaine’. I heard that she already had a boyfriend and they were in a good relationship. Abby, I suggest that you should move back home since you have come back. After all, it’s improper to live in other’s house.”
“…”
The stepmother who always wanted to drive her out of their house asked her to move back.
In a split second, a thought struck Abby’s mind. ‘Did Tina really turn good? Did I worry too much?’
“We will bring troubles to you.” Abby said, her gentle and amiable eyes staying on Ethan, who expressed yesterday that he wanted a home belonged to them. It could be seen that even he didn’t like the feeling of living in others’ home.
Tina sighed and her finger moved in the air.
“Of course not. It’s your home. Needless to say, your father won’t allow you to live outside, me either.”
“…” Abby felt awkward.
She raised her eyes and met her father’s kind and earnest gaze. She knew her father missed her, but was Tina sincere?
“Kid, what your aunt said was reasonable. We couldn’t allow you to live outside, because you haven’t got married now.” Tim finally spoke.
In fact, Tim was the only one who sincerely hoped his daughter could come back. It was self-evident that the others all had their own purposes.
“So that’s the end of the matter. I’ll ask the driver to pick you up later.” Tina seemed so anxious that she was very worried that Abby would refuse her again. So she decided for her directly.
Abby was busy taking care of Ethan during the dinner. She also didn’t notice Tina and Eva were tipping winks to each other secretly.
Finally, Eva was defeat by Tina. She stood up, picked up her wine glass and her toasted to her elder sister.
“Abby, let me take a toast to you.” Eva spoke fast without serious expression on her face. “Wish you can…return in triumph!”
“…”
Abby felt confused.
‘What did she mean by returning in triumph? This phrase is…’
“Abby, you’re clear about your sister that she didn’t like studying and often misuse words. Just ignore her.” Tina explained and urged her to eat something again, “Come on! Enjoy the dishes…”
The dinner was finally ended at 1 o’clock p. m.
Tina was reluctant to let go of Abby. She kept talking with her, while Tim took Ethan to toilet.
Ethan finished more quickly and waited for Tim in the hall.
The news on the TV on the wall suddenly attracted his attention. He craned his neck and stood on tiptoe. But he was too short to watch it. He could only hear someone was speaking, which supposed to be interviewing some celebrities.
The little guy walked backwards in tiptoe.
One step, two steps, three steps…
“Ow!”
Suddenly, a woman’s scream came from behind.
When Ethan turned around to make an apology, he heard the high-pitched voice of the woman.
“It’s so impolite and impudent of you. Where are your adults?” Luna said, rubbing her toe, frowning, “You imps are all ill-mannered, don’t you?”
Ethan knew he made a mistake, but he really didn’t like being called imp.
So he imitated the posture of adults, arms akimbo, started going on at Luna with her arrogant tone.
“Where did you bad woman come from? You said so loudly that I was an imp. How ill-bred you are!”
Luna was so angry that her eyebrows rose. She broke out into curses, “Whose little bastard are you? Where are your parents? Since they haven’t educated you, I’ll teach you a lesson for them.”
Ivan couldn’t stand it anymore. He stopped her immediately and said, “Ok. He was just a kid. You don’t have to care about him too much.”
“This uncle is right. It’s normal that I don’t know how to be polite, for I’m a kid. But you are an adult. You didn’t seem to be a child from decent family at all, as you talk so vulgar.”
Ethan was not afraid of making trouble. Although he was young, his self-esteem was very strong.
Hearing his words, Luna’s face turned purple with anger.
“Which family do you come from?”
Compared with Luna’s fierceness, Ethan behaved quite calm. He tilted his head, thinking how to answer this question.
