It was getting brighter and brighter.
A gentle knock fell on the door of the ward, and then the door was opened from the outside.
A white-coated doctor came in tiptoed. As he had been doing in the past two days, he was going to give Ernest a checkup and check on his wounds.
However, when he looked over, he saw two persons lying in the bed.
Ernest had already woken up. He was half-lying on the bed, and another person was in his arms with only half of her head exposed. Judging from the long hair, the doctor knew it was a woman.
The doctor was surprised. “Excuse me…”
“Shush.”
Ernest’s finger stood between his lips to signal the doctor to be quiet.
The doctor swallowed his unfinished words back immediately. While he was dizzy by the shock, he understood gradually that it was Mr. Hawkins’ fiancee.
He walked to the bed tiptoed and whispered to Ernest, “Mr. Hawkins, it’s time to check you up and for you to take medicine.”
“No need to hurry. Please wait for a while outside the ward.”
Ernest didn’t look at the doctor at all, only staring at the sleeping face of the woman in his arms.
He was expressionless, still looking elegant and stately. However, the doctor could sense that it was the time that Mr. Hawkins’ had the best mood in the past two days.
Mr. Hawkins even patiently spoke to him in a gentle voice.
Hence, the doctor became a bit bolder. He said, “Mr. Hawkins, you should take the medicine on time, so the effect would be the best.”
“I’ll still alive without taking it, won’t I?”
The doctor was startled, wondering what he meant. Immediately, he answered, “Of course. But it would impact your recovery and it would take you far more slowly to get recovered.”
Far more slowly?
Ernest looked at the woman in her arms again. Pressing his lips, he said, “Please go out.”
The doctor was confused. He had told Mr. Hawkins about the disadvantage, but why did Mr. Hawkins still insist he leaving?
As a super busy man, wouldn’t he want to waste any time in bed?
However, the doctor dared not disobey Ernest’s order. With confusion and depression, the doctor walked out quietly and gently closed the door behind him.
The room became pin-dropping quiet once again.
Ernest stared at the woman in his arms deeply. Looking at her peaceful look while sleeping, he felt that everything was so beautiful and peaceful.
Although he didn’t know how long this kind of time would last, he wished it could last as long as possible.
When Florence woke up finally, it was quite bright already.
She still maintained the same gesture last night — lying in Ernest’s arms and wrapping his waist with her arms.
However, she could tell that Ernest had woken up long ago. He was half-lying on the bed and reading a book in his hands. The shadow of the book blocked the sunshine from the window and covered her face.
That was why she wasn’t woken up by the bright sunshine and slept in so late.
Florence looked at him in a daze.
Noticing that she had woken up, Ernst looked over at her.
Pressing his lips, he said in a steady and magnetic voice, “You are awake.”
“Yeah…” Florence answered, still in a daze.
The man’s embrace was too warm and he looked too handsome. She was immersed in his charm and didn’t know what she was doing.
Looking at her dizzy face, Ernst pressed his lips slightly. “If you are still sleepy, just sleep in. It’s still early.”
Since it was still early, she was like dreaming although she had opened her eyes. Now she was indeed dizzy.
Florence seemed to have found the best excuse for her being obsessed by his charm.
However, she didn’t feel sleepy at all. She could no longer sleep in.
Reluctantly, she withdrew her arms. Sitting up from the bed, she was about to get off.
“Well… I’m going to take a shower and tidy myself up. Have you washed your face?”
“Not yet,” Ernest answered, “I’ve just woken up as well.”
Florence was confused, wondering if he started reading as soon as he woke up, but she didn’t overthink. “Please wait for me for a moment. I’ll come out as soon as I’m done.”
Florence walked to the bathroom, still feeling a bit dizzy. She wondered why Ernest and she were like a married couple who were staying together.
At the thought of it, she couldn’t help curling up her lips.
While she was still immersed in the warmth after getting up, she looked up at the clock after walking into the bathroom. She was shocked.
It was already half past ten in the morning.
She gaped. It was already half past ten! She wondered if it was not half past seven.
Immediately, she pulled out her cell phone and checked — it was indeed half past ten.
It was almost noon already, not morning.
Ernest even had told her that it was still early. She had never got up so late.
Florence blushed in embarrassment. Ernest was a patient, so it didn’t matter how late he had slept in. She was supposed to take care of him, but she had also slept in. She blamed herself for being like a hog.
Annoyed, she patted her cheeks and tidied up herself as soon as she could.
Then she got a basin of hot water for Ernest to wash his face.
As soon as she put the basin of water in front of the bed and twisted the towel, the door of the war was pushed open from the outside.
The doctor, who was waiting anxiously outside the door, had heard the movements in the ward. Hence, he knew that Florence had woken up for sure.
He couldn’t wait any longer and came back in immediately.
“Excuse me, Mr. Hawkins, your medicine…”
Before the doctor had finished his words, he met Ernest’s cold eyes that hinted at him to shut up.
Ernest said coldly and aggressively, “Hold on!”
As he spoke, he looked over at Florence who was holding the towel and standing beside the bed. He stared at her, implying to her to go on.
Florence was a bit taken aback. She felt quite awkward and shy to help Ernest wash his face already, but now a doctor was watching her while standing aside.
She blushed and looked away to avoid eye contact with either of them, gently wiping Ernest’s face.
She was not skilled at all but extremely serious. She gazed at his face.
Ernest had rarely been gazed at by Florence with a concentration in this way, although he knew that it was just because she was helping him wash his face.
However, he felt quite good.
Florence was wiping his face in embarrassment, and Ernest was enjoying it in satisfaction. The doctor was standing aside awkwardly, wishing to vanish from the ward.
In the single morning, he had been fed up with the PDA by Ernest twice already.
Finally, Florence finished helping Ernest wash his face and brush his teeth. After everything had been done, when Florence went back to the bathroom, the doctor finally found a chance to speak again.
Immediately, he said, “Mr. Hawkins, it’s time for a checkup.”
Since he was served by Florence in the morning, Ernest felt quite delighted.
He nodded in agreement.
Seeing that Ernest was willing to cooperate with him finally, the doctor breathed a sigh of relief. Immediately, he waved his hands. A few professional nurses pulled different equipment into the ward, all women.
The nurses started to get the equipment ready skillfully. One of the nurses walked to Ernest’s bed and said respectfully, “Mr. Hawkins, the doctor needs to check your wounds. Please allow me to take off your clothes.”
Ernest was half-lying on the bed, leaning forward a bit.
This gesture was more convenient to get him to be stripped.
With his permission, the nurse immediately walked up, reached out, and started unbuttoning the buttons on his patient gown.
When Florence came out of the bathroom, she saw the scene.
A woman in the nurse’s uniform was sitting at the edge of Ernest’s bed, reaching out to unbutton him.
“What are you doing?”
With a darkened face, Florence rushed over to the bed and pulled the nurse away.
She was standing in front of Ernest as if she was a hen protecting her chicken, completely hiding Ernest behind. Her eyes staring at the nurse were full of vigilance and precaution.
“Why are you stripping him?”
