Book:Fated to the Alpha Published:2024-6-3

As I get to my feet, Kyan groans, clutching his chest as he gets to his. “Kaif enough,” he says in a pained voice.
My face aches as pain ripples through me when Kaif takes another step closer before standing and clutching my head in his hands. Please don’t try to kiss me! I think, if this fuckers lips touch mine, I am out of here!
“Eska vlain mortaska,” he says, and I feel my pain leave before he blocks Kyan’s pain from me, so I no longer have to endure it. And then, he suddenly relinquishes control back to Kyan, laughing hysterically at what he has done. That is the revenge he is talking about, he bonded us together more, and I have no idea if he is punishing Kyan or me as well. Tomorrow will be fucked.
“I’m sorry,” Kyan begins to say, and I raise my hand.
“Save your apologies for Maddox, Ares, and Donnie tomorrow,” I tell him, turning on my heel and walking out.
“Where are you going?” Kyan calls.
“Back to my girl,” I call over my shoulder, slamming the door when I walk out. My neck stings from his mark as I walk out to the car. It burns a little. How the fuck do I explain this to Marabella? Do I just tell her Kaif marked me, but I can’t be gay because unlike her dads, he doesn’t support donutting? This is so fucked up.
Kyan
“Lucas, have you seen my phone?” I am running late. I should have left already. However, I was contemplating not going after Jonah’s threat. I know he told his dad, who in turn told hers.
I’m not worried about them doing anything. They stand no chance if they ever try. I don’t need Kaif to take them down, but can I risk hurting Marabella any more than I already have?
Today I will do it, I will set her free of me, I will end this finally and she will be safely away from me.
“Lucas!” I call out again when I get no answer.
“No, did you check your room?” Lucas yells out.
Of course, I already checked my damn room. I growl, frustrated. It has all my videos stored on it, and although I have them backed up on my Google drive; I still enjoy having them on hand.
They are the only thing that helps me keep control of Kaif when I am anxious. He usually settles instantly when I play the videos of Mara that I keep secretly hidden from unwanted eyes. I have videos from when she is a baby right up until now. I suppose one would probably think it is creepy that I watch her without her knowledge.
Yet it isn’t hard to tap into her family’s security cameras, though she hardly spends time in any of the main areas. But when she does, I always make sure to save them, so Kaif has something to watch.
Hearing footsteps, I turn, looking toward the stairs of the foyer. “No, luck?” He asks and I shake my head.
“If you find it, ring Jonah and let me know,” I tell him.
I have to get to the challenge. I promised I would go. He has been waiting for this day since he was a kid and I will make sure, no matter how much of a terrible idea it is now, that I will be there for him. Though it will be awkward now that Kaif has marked him. I still can’t believe he would betray me like that. Betray us?
“You left me no choice,” Kaif snarls.
“There is always a choice,” I tell him while walking out to my car.
“Then make the right ones and I won’t have to take drastic measures,” He growls back.
“You know only mates are supposed to mark each other, and Jonah isn’t my mate.” I snap at the moron. I swear, sometimes he acts like the insults Jonah throws at him are nothing but observations.
“No, but he is right about one thing. Mara was always supposed to be his too,” Kaif insists.
My brows pinch together. “How so?”
“I don’t know. I could sense it when I marked him. He shares her essence,” Kaif mumbles, seeming somewhat embarrassed to share the information. Funny how someone so old can be like this.
“Essence maybe because he had been with her all night,” I tell him, but he disagrees.
“No, I can’t explain it. He is like, I don’t know the glue, the one that holds everything together, the Ying and Yang if you like.” Kaif rambles.
“Ying and Yang, that makes no sense,” I mumble.
“With darkness comes light. Jonah is the light, but I don’t know, it’s more than that,” he muses.
“Well, when you figure it out, let me know,” I tell him, starting my car.
“You don’t seem very upset about me marking him,” Kaif observes.
“He is like a brother, though how this will work when he becomes Alpha is beyond me, you mate marked him, I am not about to leave the city, and I sure as hell won’t be with Mara and ah, definitely not with him!”
“You always think of sex. You know, relationships back in my day weren’t about sex. You couldn’t even have sex until you courted and married the lady and got parental approval,” Kaif says.
“Yeah, in your day, you thought the world was flat, and that bad smells caused disease,” I tell him, shaking my head.
The drive takes a couple of hours and as I pull onto the long stretch of road, suddenly I feel nervous about seeing Mara. Should I apologize, should I just steer clear until it is all over, then approach her to reject her? I am definitely out of my element here.
Parking, I notice the entire pack staring in my direction. Here we go, I think. I can see Mateo and Ezra on the hill like they are waiting for me. I roll my eyes and press my lips in a line.
“You’re on your own,” Kaif says, and I growl at him.
“Aren’t I usually against you?” I scoff, pushing my door open only to see Mara walk out of the packhouse with Sage. Sage stops and my stomach sinks. It is clear she knows by the glare on her face. Marabella stops staring at her before looking over her shoulder and noticing me. She looks back at her Aunty, who suddenly starts storming over in my direction. Marabella tries to stop her but one look from Sage, and she drops her head.
Sage storms past her in a blaze of glory. “I expected better of you. I fucking expected so much better,” she snarls at me.
