Andrei
Kat looks fine when I get to the hospital. It appears that both twins were safely delivered, but my father still looks worried as he watches them in their bassinet. I pat his shoulder as I step into the room.
“Son,” he nods toward Kat, who is on the bed staring off worriedly.
“Kat,” I lean down and kiss her cheek, and she wraps her arms around my neck. I rub her back gently before pulling back. My eyes scan the room again, as if I didn’t notice something important as I entered, and after a moment, it hits me.
Mateo and Ezra are nowhere to be seen. I raise an eyebrow, but Kat rushes to answer the question before I get to voice it. “They are talking to Mathias about Marabella.” She whispers as she glances in the direction of her twins.
“Why? Is something wrong with her?” I ask, and she looks at the bassinet again. I peer down at my niece lying next to her brother.
Kat doesn’t have that glow first-time mothers usually have, which comes off as incredibly strange. She radiates nothing but fear and worry. And on top of that, the way she keeps glancing at the twins, she never holds her eyes on them for longer than a few seconds. It makes me worry.
Since Kat stays silent, I focus on the babies. “Hello, Eziah Leo,” I whisper, looking at the name tag on his tiny wrist. “Finally picked a middle name, huh sis?” I ask her, and she nods.
“Yes, Leo is Mateo’s middle name,” Kat says.
I pick him up being careful with his little head, and Kat eventually holds her arms out for him. Slowly, I place him in her arms and turn around to grab Marabella Seline. That’s what her tag says.
While Eziah’s markings are gold, her markings are different, dark, black, and angry. One like the golden light of day and the other as dark as night. I knew Kat had Gemini wolf twins, but something clearly has gone wrong.
“Leave the mittens on!” Kat shrieks when I pluck them off her little hands. I want to see more of those markings and how they twirl around her little hands.
I raise my eyes from the little one and look at Kat. “So worried all the time, sis. I’m just proving something. If not, you will bring me back,” I tease.
The Moon Goddess has done something wrong, though I’m not sure what. Marabella’s hands are covered, while her brother’s aren’t.
“Her touch can kill Andrei!” Kat shrieks as I grab her little hand.
I raise an eyebrow at my sister, as I watch her lips part. To her utter shock, I press my lips to Marabella’s palm. “Everything can be controlled, Kat. She will learn to control it.” I promise against the baby girl’s hand.
“But I could feel it when she was born,” Kat says. Now, she doesn’t radiate as much worry as she did minutes ago, but the room is still thick with confusion. I could steal the baby and get out of here before she gets back to her senses. Of course, I wouldn’t do that, I have my hands full with my disobedient little mate, and don’t need a baby thrown into the mix as well.
“Was she crying?” I ask, and she nods. “She is calm now and not using it. I believe her power reacts to her emotions, though if they are this powerful as newborns, imagine how powerful they will be after the rascals shift,” I chuckle as Ezra comes in.
He stops and openly stares at me as if I have grown another head. His eyes focus on my hand as I hold Marabella’s tiny one and stroke her palm with my thumb. “You lived,” he gasps and rushes over to my side.
“Emotion, she is calm.” I announce.
“Makes sense,” he whispers as he holds out his arms in amazement.
“I also have another theory after seeing this. Actually, I will try when I leave, with Mathias’ permission and yours, of course.” I add.
He nods, taking Marabella from me. I watch him kiss her hands as he lets her hold his thumb. Relief washes over his features. I’m pretty sure all of them feared that they would have to keep her hands covered for the rest of her life.
“How is Sage?” Kat asks, popping the bubble of magic her babies managed to create around me.
I shove my hands into my pants pockets and shrug. “Yeah, she is ok. I tried to bring her, but she ran, so she is back home with Zane.” I explain as I keep my gaze focused on the baby.
“And she is adjusting, ok?” Kat asks. I swear, I love my sister, but sometimes she’s too pushy. It’s too soon to tell yet, and besides, didn’t she hear the part where I said Sage tried to run?
“She speaks a little, if that is what you mean,” I tell her.
“That’s something, I guess. So what is this other theory you wanted to try?” Kat changes the topic. I feel like the weight falls off my shoulders and grab the out she offers.
“Can I have Eziah?” I ask, holding my arms out for him. Kat hands him over, and I step closer to Ezra, who watches me worriedly.
“Mateo, can you put her mitten on the hand closest to Ezra’s chest?” I ask him.
He does, covering her one hand touching Ezra, just as a precaution. These babies were in the womb together, so it makes sense that they can cancel each other out. If they can’t she would have killed her brother otherwise.
I press Eziah’s hand against Marabella’s and static zaps between their tiny hands. Gold tendrils rush over Marabella’s hand, and black over Eziah’s, flickering and blending together.
“Eziah is immune to her,” I tell them as I slowly separate the twins. I grab Marabella’s hand, and Ezra gasps. “And they are reactive to each other. She used her magic a second ago, when their hands touched, yet I touch her and nothing now.”
“I like how you’re willing to be a guinea pig for her, jeez Andrei. Have a death wish?” Mateo scoffs, placing a mitten on Marabella’s other hand.
I roll my eyes. “Need to test it someway, and now you know that her power is reactive to her brother and his to her. When she is upset, don’t touch her hands. Oh, and for the love of Goddess, don’t piss her off,” I warn them, watching Mateo cover her hands.
