I open the door wide and let him in. He walks to the kitchen like he does every time he comes here. The man has a serious coffee addiction, and I swear he is at least 90% coffee. He stops at the door leading into the living room and speaks to Sage, who seems a little nervous about his presence as her eyes dart to me. “Luna,” he greets and bows to show respect. Sage stares at me, a confused look on her face.
“This is Zane. He is safe, Sage. He won’t touch you. None of my men will,” I assure her and I place my hand on Zane’s shoulder.
Not that it surprises me, but her silence proves that trust is obviously going to be slowly earned with her.
“Coffee?” Zane asks and walks off without waiting for an answer. Still, I nod and follow after him.
I lean on the counter, trying to wake up. “You slept,” Zane states, and I yawn.
“It appears so,” I reply, though I feel like shit, and coffee is definitely needed.
My phone rings in the hallway on the stand. The noise gets louder as I walk back out to retrieve it, only to walk directly into Sage. My hand barely grabs her when I knock her backward on her ass.
I manage to catch myself on the door frame before I stand upright and pull her with me, her body flush against mine, and damn does she feel good.
“Your phone,” she whispers, and I realize she is shaking in my arms. I let her go, and she instantly steps out of reach.
I shake my head to once again get myself in check. “Thank you,” I tell her, taking the phone from her to see it is my father calling. I answer it, placing the phone to my ear. “Yes, Derrick,” I answer.
“Have you heard from Mateo and Ezra yet?” he snaps.
“Should I have? Kat was here yesterday.” I raise an eyebrow, glancing at Sage.
“Kat has been taken in for an emergency C-section. I thought I would tell you,” he says.
My heart races at an unusual speed as I pace the hall, running a hand through my hair. “Are the babies alright?” I ask, fearing the worst.
There is silence on his end. Just a brief moment, but I know better than to assume he has anything good to tell me if he’s stalling. Derrick sighs, “They are fine. It is Kat that isn’t.”
“On my way.” I hang up on him. While I was on the call I hadn’t noticed Zane leaving the kitchen. He stands aside and looks at me.
“Everything ok, Alpha?” Zane asks, startling Sage with his sudden appearance.
“No, I need to get to my sister.” I shake my head. My eyes settle on Sage. What will be the best thing to do in this situation? Do I drag her along or leave her locked inside here?
If I keep trying to figure out what to do with her, I will only lose more time. So, instead of guessing, I let her choose. “Do you want to come? Or, you can stay here if you want to.”

“See, I told you, I just stood up too fast,” I scold Mateo as I sit in the uncomfortable doctor’s office chair. I couldn’t escape the visit. Mateo refused to step down and insisted we come here.
Not to mention that he thought it was a good idea to basically blackmail me. But at least I got a chance to see Andrei and talk to his mate, so Mateo has earned his peace of mind.
“No, doctor, you don’t understand, Ezra and I both felt it.” Mateo stresses, running a hand through his hair and huffing loudly. “It is hard to explain. Can you check her again?” he insists.
Mathias sighs as he stares at Mateo. “There is nothing to see, Mateo. The ultrasound came back fine. The babies are safe and healthy. Besides her blood pressure being a little high, she’s fine and I have no concerns about her health. That happens to pregnant women and is a part of the pregnancy in general. Your babies are fine, Mateo.” Mathias tells him, emphasizing that there indeed is nothing wrong with me.
Mateo is adamant that something is wrong with me and the babies. Honestly, his attitude is getting on my nerves. He has forced the doctor to poke and prod me for the last hour. The doctor checked every little thing, even the things Mateo told him to. All that just to find out that it is a complete waste of time.
“If it makes you feel better, I am on call at the hospital tonight anyway. If you’re worried later on, bring her in for more tests. But right now, she appears to be fine, Mateo. There’s nothing wrong with Kat or the babies. I can’t keep stressing this enough.” Mathias insists, when Mateo is clearly about to start ordering more tests.
I feel like a pin cushion with the jabs they gave me, checking sugar levels and blood. I just want to go home, stuff my face with some goodies, and maybe have a nap.
“Please, can we go home now? You are being silly. I am fine,” I assure him, grabbing his hand and squeezing it.
“Fine, but if anything happens, if you feel anything, no matter how small, we come back,” Mateo insists, raising an eyebrow at me as if to dare me to talk back to him.
Desperate times call for desperate measures, and I’ve learned that sometimes it’s best not to say anything and just let my mates believe they won. So I nod, just to be over and done with this torture. I still think he is too protective and cautious. Heaven forbid I fart, he would probably have asked them to catch it and have them test that too.
“Fine, can we go home now, please?” I whine.
My hips, and feet are killing me. I am the size of a blimp, and I want sleep, maybe even a foot rub, but definitely sleep.
Mateo nods as he stands up and helps me out of my chair. He nods to Mathias, who has a silly grin on his face. I still have just under a month to go, and I have a feeling Mateo will bring me down here for any reason, no matter how stupid it might be.
The entire car drive home Mateo stays quiet, and his worry flows through the bond. I reach over, gripping his hand, and he lifts mine, kissing my knuckles.
