I look at Seline, trying to figure out what she is talking about. “Where is Mateo?” I ask her, and she looks at me.
“Everyone has skeletons, everyone makes a sacrifice, and with every sacrifice you pay the consequence. Just remember, not everyone deserves to be saved, Katya. One sacrifice can change your entire future,” she warns before flicking her wrist, and my surroundings disappear.
I find myself sitting on the boulder again, back at the river.
“Make sure you choose which skeletons you can live with, Kat. Some will haunt you and those you love more than you can ever imagine.”
“I still don’t understand,” I admit, trying to figure out this riddle she gave me, and where exactly Mateo was?
“You will understand when the time comes, or I hope you do, Kat, for your mate’s sake and yours. Choices are something we all must make. Don’t make the mistakes of our ancestors. They sacrificed wrong and in turn sacrificed themselves, never sacrifice their bonds,” she warns, when I hear movement in the woods, my ears perk, hearing a twig snap. Seline smiles when Ezra and Mateo step out of the tree line, a look of relief flooding both their faces.
“There you are, we have been looking for you,” Ezra scolds with a sigh, only then did I pick up their fear. Mateo’s face lights up when he sees me. And my heart breaks knowing what the vision showed, yet I can’t think of any possible reason as to why I would sacrifice his life over someone else’s.
“What are you doing out here?” Mateo asks while glancing around, his voice sends shock waves through me, and I throw myself at him, smacking into his chest. “Hey, what is wrong? Why are you crying?” He asks, wrapping his arms around me, and I turn back looking for Seline, only she is gone.
I step away from him, looking around frantically for her, but she is nowhere to be seen.
“Kitty?” questions Maddox, making me look at Ezra to find Maddox peering back at me. He looks around, alert, looking for what upset me before his eyes fall back on me again. “What is it?”
I shake my head, pressing my face into Mateo’s chest, and listen to the sound of his beating heart. I can feel their confusion. Maddox gives Ezra back control, and he steps closer, wrapping his arms around us and dropping his head on Mateo’s shoulder.
“What is it, Kat?” Ezra asks, kissing my forehead.
“Nothing, I just missed you both,” I confess. They won’t understand, I barely understand what I saw. I just know whatever I did see in that vision cost Mateo his life, but from the look Ezra gave me in the vision, I can tell I had taken his life as well.
My mind is conflicted the entire walk home, I can’t picture life without either of them. Yet I am also sad for Kora, how many lives of disappointment had she lived? “Is this why you have been hiding away? Did you know all this time we had two mates?” I ask her.
“I knew we had two, but I don’t remember my past lives, Kat. Just a feeling of knowing I sometimes get. Like intuition, I don’t know or remember the details, but I feel the energy of certain things. So this is as new to you as it is to me,” she comments, wandering off into the shadows of my mind.
Walking inside the packhouse, Mateo and Ezra follow me upstairs. “Kat, why were you in the woods?” Ezra asks, and I can tell that it is really puzzling him.
“Kora wanted to go for a run, she hadn’t spoken to me in days, so I thought she would come back if I let her out,” I explain.
“Did she?” Mateo asks.
“Kind of,” I reply, pulling my top off and heading for the shower. I step in, turning the water on before reaching for the soap. Ezra joins me, stripping his clothes off before stepping in the shower, his hands caressing my hips, and he kisses my shoulder.
“Where is Mateo?” I ask, moving over for him to step past me to the other shower head.
“Behind you,” Mateo says, opening the shower screen and stepping in behind me. I move closer to Ezra, allowing him room to get in.
Ezra tugs me against him, his chest flush against my back, and he dips his head next to me. “You’re hiding something,” he whispers, and I shake my head.
My eyes roam down Mateo’s muscular body before I reach my hand out, tracing my fingertips down his chest and abs, feeling the hard ridges of muscle under my fingertips.
“You are, but that’s okay, we’ll figure it out,” Ezra growls, before his lips press to my shoulder, and Mateo steps closer. He greedily watches Ezra’s hands move up my sides to my breasts as he nips and sucks on my mark, enticing a moan from me.
Mateo’s eyes darken at the sound before he leans down and presses his lips to mine, his hand going to my hair as he tangles his fingers in it, pulling my face closer as he sucks my bottom lip.
I kiss him back, my tongue playing with his when his hands grab my thighs, lifting me and pressing me against Ezra. My arms wrap around Mateo’s neck, tugging him closer, and I kiss him harder. Ezra’s hands run over my thighs, everywhere they touch ignites a fire inside, goosebumps rise on my skin as sparks swirl over me, making my toes curl. I roll my hips against Mateo. His hard cock rubs between my soaking wet folds, brushing against my clit, and I moan into his mouth at the friction.
Ezra’s hand roams over my ass before he slips it between my legs. He shoves two fingers inside me from behind, dragging them in and out slowly, my inner walls clench around him at the welcome intrusion. Ezra’s lips go back to my neck, and he nibbles and sucks on the sensitive skin, letting his tongue tease me. Mateo pulls his lips from mine, and I tilt my head to the side, giving Ezra more room, as I enjoy the friction waves building inside.
“I wanna watch him fuck you,” Ezra growls, sucking my earlobe into his mouth before he bites on it, his fingers slowly teasing me but not giving me enough. “Do you want to fuck Mateo for me, Kat?” He purrs, his voice rough against my ear as he curls his fingers inside me, and I roll my hips against Mateo, and he groans, his grip on my thighs tightening.
“Yes,” my answer is a breathy moan, as I am pressed between them.
“That’s our girl,” Mateo growls, his lips finding mine again. He holds me close to his body and steps away from Ezra. Ezra’s fingers slowly slip from me, my walls clenching them until the last second, and he turns the water off. Mateo carries me out of the bathroom and sits on the edge of the bed with me straddling him. He takes his time sucking the water from my skin, dragging his teeth over my shoulder and just above my breast. A soft towel rubs against my back in lazy circles, and Ezra’s heat bleeds through.
