The next day, Sabrina found herself caught in a whirlwind. She felt a mixture of confusion, frustration, and a sense of being powerless as she was led from Kenneth’s apartment to the opulent mansion belonging to the McBride family.
Inside the mansion, Sabrina was greeted by a flurry of activity. Family members and staff scurried about, preparing for the unexpected turn of events. She felt like a pawn in a game she never wanted to play and was swept away by forces beyond her control.
Soon, they were on the move again, this time towards the courthouse. Sabrina’s heart pounded in her chest as she realized the purpose of their destination. The weight of the situation bore down on her, and she couldn’t help but feel a sense of resentment for being thrust into this predicament against her will. She just spent a night with Kenneth, but the following day, she was getting married into their family. If there was one thing that they allowed her to do, it was to invite her friend to attend and witness the event.
Heather Middleton demanded an explanation but Sabrina didn’t have an idea where to start, so she just promised they would talk again about it. She promised to meet Heather after settling down with Kenneth’s family.
As they entered the courthouse, Sabrina observed the solemnity of the surroundings. The hushed whispers and echoing footsteps only served to amplify her unease. She longed for a way to break free from this chain of events but she had no way of escaping from Kenneth’s family. All eyes were on her, especially Lorraine and Sanya’s eyes.
Then, Sabrina was led to a small office where the paperwork for their marriage registration awaited. She felt like a puppet, forced to go through the motions of a union she never asked for. Her mind raced with thoughts of resistance and she even considered calling her family to rescue her, but when she glanced at Kenneth, she decided to give it a try. After all, she liked him too much. As the pen touched the paper to sign her name, Sabrina’s hand trembled.
A few seconds later, the ink dried on the marriage certificate, and it sealed her fate on the paper. Sabrina took a deep breath while hoping that she and Kenneth would learn to love each other after their marriage.
“Congratulations, Sabrina,” Heather said because she was the only person who knew about her obsession toward Kenneth McBride.
“Thank you, Heather,” Sabrina said and then she was slightly embarrassed when Kenneth walked toward the door without waiting for her.
“Let’s go home, Sabrina,” Lorraine said before glancing at Heather. “Come with us. We have prepared a feast for their wedding,” she said.
“A feast without inviting her parents?” Heather asked and Lorraine frowned.
“Heather, let’s go,” Sabrina immediately grabbed Heather’s hands.
As they stepped out of the courthouse, the weight of her new status as a married woman settled upon her shoulders. She was happy and worried at the same time. Although she had already talked to Heather to keep everything a secret from her parents, she was still worried that news about her marriage would be out.
At the grand mansion, the atmosphere was carefully curated to project an air of happiness and celebration. The presence of cameras added an additional layer of pressure to maintain appearances. As Sabrina stepped into the opulent dining hall, she couldn’t help but notice the forced smiles and strained laughter that filled the room.
Everywhere she turned, faces beamed with artificial joy. She felt like an outsider, and forced to play a role she never auditioned for. Her own emotions were eclipsed by the demands of the occasion.
Sabrina plastered a smile on her face. She played the part, and she also engaged herself into a polite conversations with the elders and Kenneth’s relatives. Once again, she glanced at Kenneth who sat beside her at the lavish dining table. His forced smile mirrored her own.
Then, the clinking of glasses and the orchestrated laughter echoed through the hall, punctuating the facade of merriment. Sabrina tried her best not to cry on her wedding day, but deep inside her heart, she felt like crying.
As the evening drew to a close, Sabrina was guided to retreat into the room she would share with Kenneth. Then, a maid came to help her undress and prepare her for the wedding night.
After her wedding dress was stripped, the maid led her to the bathtub filled with rose petals. Sabrina tried to send the maid away but the woman insisted. After an hour of soaking her body in the rose water, the maid led her back to the room.
Sabrina was embarrassed at the attention of the maid because she was not used to it even if they have several servants at home. Then, the maid insisted on applying skin softener on her skin. She couldn’t even say no! After the right amount of perfume was sprayed on her body, Sabrina thought it was over, but then the maid asked her to lie in bed.
Just to get it done, Sabrina complied. She exclaimed in horror when the maid examined her private part.
“What do you think you are doing?” she asked in disbelief.
“It is customary, Miss Sabrina to check if you have hairs on them,” the maid replied.
“Why would it matter? My husband should only be the one to check it. Aren’t you being disrespectful now?”
“I apologize Miss Sabrina if you feel disrespected right now but I have to make a report to Don Gabriel,” the maid said.
“W-what did you say?”
Sabrina was horrified to learn that Kenneth’s grandfather would have an idea of what she looked down there.
“You have nothing to worry about, Miss Sabrina. You are clean down there,” the maid continued.
Sabrina rolled her eyes. If she didn’t have a Brazilian wax with Heather, would the maid report to Gabriel McBride that she was hairy down there? Whoa, unbelievable!
“Are we done?” Sabrina asked the maid because she was tired and wanted to be alone for a moment.
“Wait a minute, Miss Sabrina. I have to prepare the toys for the wedding night.”
“Toys?” Sabrina asked in disbelief. Then, the maid nodded before showing her the tray which contained several sex toys. “What for?”
“In case you need help to enjoy it longer,” the maid replied.
“Oh my God! This family is full of shit!”
“Should I include that line in my report, Miss Sabrina?”
“Are you stupid? Leave now,” she ordered.
As Sabrina lay on the luxurious bed in her room, she waited for Kenneth to come. Even if the marriage was rushed and forced, it was customary for them to spend a night. The room was filled with an uneasy silence but as the minutes turned to hours, she realized that her husband had chosen to sleep elsewhere.
Initially, she assumed that Kenneth would be kind enough to treat her with respect because she didn’t force him to marry her. It was his family who forced him to get married, but then, she couldn’t help but feel a sense of rejection.
Closing her eyes, Sabrina let go of the disappointment and the lingering hurt. As sleep finally claimed her, Sabrina wished that tomorrow would be better for her.
