CHAPTER 8

Book:FALLING FOR A FAKE OMEGA Published:2024-6-3

Sabrina Hart and Kenneth McBride sat on opposite sides of the courtroom, anxiously waiting for their divorce hearing to begin. They had been married for three years, but their love had faded away long ago, especially when he considered his sister-in-law more important than her.
Sabrina, a privileged woman who was born as an Alpha’s daughter, and a granddaughter of the most notorious mafia boss, couldn’t stand Kenneth’s lack of affection and philandering activity. Kenneth, on the other hand, felt compelled to be more kind and protective toward his sister-in-law. His loyalty belonged to Isabelle Ortega, the widow of his older brother.
As the judge entered the courtroom, Sabrina and Kenneth both stood up. The judge began by asking them if they had made any progress in resolving their differences, but it was clear from their silence that they had not.
The proceedings began, with Sabrina and Kenneth’s lawyers presenting their respective cases. The lawyers argued over the division of property and assets, spousal support, and some other important matters.
Sabrina’s lawyer argued that she was entitled to the majority of the marital assets, as she had contributed more financially to the marriage, but she was kind enough not to take a penny from her husband.
Kenneth’s lawyer gasped in disbelief.
The judge cleared his throat and turned to Sabrina’s lawyer. “Mr. Johnson, can you please explain your client’s position regarding the division of assets?”
Sabrina’s lawyer stood up and addressed the judge. “Certainly, Your Honor. Sabrina believes that although she was entitled to the majority of the assets, as she has not signed any prenuptial agreement prior to the wedding, she doesn’t want a penny from her husband, Kenneth McBride.”
The judge nodded and turned to Kenneth’s lawyer. “And Mr. Thompson, what is your client’s position on this matter?”
Kenneth’s lawyer stood up and spoke. “Your Honor, Kenneth believes it is only right she wouldn’t take anything, but he is willing to give her a fair amount. Simply put, my client is willing to negotiate a fair settlement with Miss Heart, but he does not believe that she should be entitled to the majority of the assets.”
The judge took notes as the lawyers presented their arguments.
Throughout the proceedings, the lawyers presented their arguments to the judge, who carefully considered their positions and made decisions based on the evidence presented. Despite the disagreements between the parties, the judge remained impartial and worked to find a fair resolution for all involved.
As the lawyers argued back and forth, Sabrina and Kenneth sat in silence, staring blankly ahead. It was clear that neither of them was happy with the situation, but they both knew that divorce was the only option.
After several hours of arguments, the judge finally made his ruling. Regardless if Sabrina Hart didn’t want a single penny from her husband, the judge required Kenneth to give what was entitled to her; fifty percent of everything that he owned
As the judge banged his gavel and declared the divorce official, Sabrina and Kenneth exchanged a brief glance. There was sadness and regret in their eyes, but also a sense of relief that the long and painful process was finally over.
Sabrina and Kenneth walked out of the courtroom as ex-spouses.
After the divorce proceedings, Sabrina and Kenneth found themselves alone outside the courthouse, facing the reality of their new lives as ex-spouses. Sabrina hesitated for a moment before approaching Kenneth, unsure of what to say.
“Kenneth, can we talk?” she asked tentatively.
Kenneth looked at her for a moment before nodding. “Sure, Sabrina. What do you want to talk about?”
Sabrina took a deep breath. “I just wanted to say that I’m sorry for the way things turned out. I never wanted things to end this way.”
Kenneth looked at her, his expression unreadable. “It’s too late for apologies, Sabrina. We can’t change what’s already happened.”
“I know,” Sabrina said softly. “But I just wanted you to know that I didn’t mean for things to end this way. I wish we could have worked things out, but I guess it’s too late for that now.”
Kenneth nodded slowly. “Yeah, it is. But we have to move on.”
Sabrina nodded in agreement. “You’re right. We’ll have to figure it out, for their sake.”
They stood in silence for a moment before Sabrina spoke again. “I just want you to know that I don’t hate you, Kenneth. I still care about you, even if we’re not together anymore.”
Kenneth looked at her, his eyes softening. “I care about you too, Sabrina. But we can’t go back to the way things were. We have to find a way to move forward, separately.”
Sabrina nodded, tears welling up in her eyes. “I know. It’s just hard to accept that things are really over.”
Kenneth reached out and took her hand, squeezing it gently. “I know. But for sure, the money you will get from me can go a long way.”
For a moment, Sabrina remembered how much she suffered at his hands. Then, she realized she was still mad at him. She shouldn’t have talked to him after the hearing. What was she thinking?
But of course, she couldn’t let him know that she was still affected by his charm. Then, she smiled sweetly at her ex-husband.
“Oh, the money! I’m your grandfather will be furious for sure,” she told him, and he frowned at her. How cute! They stood there for a moment longer before Sabrina pulled her hand away and turned to leave. “Thank you for the money, Kenneth. I’ll see you soon.”
Without looking back, Sabrina went outside, and Heather waited for her in a luxurious vehicle.
As Sabrina exited the courthouse after the divorce proceedings, she noticed her friend, Heather, waiting for her in a luxurious car. Heather, a successful businesswoman and longtime friend of Sabrina’s, had offered to give her a ride home.
Sabrina approached the car, still feeling a bit numb from the day’s events. Heather rolled down the window and gave her a sympathetic smile. “Hey, Sabrina. How are you holding up?”
Sabrina sighed and got into the car. “I’m hanging in there. It’s been a long day.”
Heather nodded, her expression serious. “I can only imagine. Do you want to talk about it?”
Sabrina shook her head. “Not really. It’s just… hard, you know? Ending a marriage that I thought would last forever.”
Heather placed a comforting hand on her shoulder. “I know, Sabrina. But you’re strong. You’ll get through this.”
Sabrina nodded, grateful for Heather’s support. “Thanks, Heather. I really appreciate it.”
They drove in silence for a few minutes before Heather spoke up again. “Listen, Sabrina. I know you’re going through a tough time right now, but I wanted to talk to you about something.”
Sabrina looked at her curiously. “What is it?”
Heather hesitated for a moment before speaking. “I’m thinking of starting a new business venture, and I was wondering if you might be interested in partnering with me.”
Sabrina raised an eyebrow. “What kind of business?”
Heather smiled, her eyes sparkling with excitement. “A boutique luxury travel agency. I know you love to travel, and I think we could make something really special together.”
Sabrina thought about it for a moment before nodding slowly. “That sounds… interesting. But I don’t know if I’m ready to jump into something new right now.”
Heather nodded, understanding. “I get it, Sabrina. But just think about it, okay? It might be just the thing you need to take your mind off things.”
Sabrina nodded, a small smile appearing on her face. “Thanks, Heather. I’ll definitely think about it.”
As they pulled up to Sabrina’s house, Heather turned to her and gave her a hug. “Hang in there, Sabrina. You’re stronger than you think.”
Sabrina hugged her back, feeling a sense of gratitude for her friend’s support. “Thanks, Heather. I really appreciate it.”
As Sabrina got out of the car and walked into her house, she knew that she still had a long road ahead of her. But with friends like Heather by her side, she knew that she could face whatever came her way.
As Sabrina walked into her home after the divorce proceedings, she was greeted by her parents, who were waiting for her in the living room. Her mother’s eyes were red and puffy, and her father had a solemn expression on his face. As soon as Sabrina saw them, she felt tears welling up in her own eyes. She walked over to them, and her mother, Margaret, enveloped her in a tight hug.
“Oh, Sabrina. We’re so sorry for what you’ve been through, but I am happy you are back to your senses now. Come on, we prepared a feast to celebrate your freedom from that lousy bastard!”
Sabrina hugged her back, feeling the weight of the day’s events on her shoulders. “Thanks, Mom. It’s been a tough day.”
Her father stepped forward and put a hand on her shoulder. “We’re here for you, Sabrina. Whatever you need, we’re here to support you.”
Sabrina smiled weakly at him, grateful for their words of comfort. “Thanks, Dad. It means a lot to me.”
“Sweetie, your grandfather is also waiting. He’s here.”
When her father, Brandon Hart, mentioned that her notorious grandfather was in the house, she suddenly became nervous. Since day one, the old man hates Kenneth, and now that she had divorced him, only God knows how her grandfather would retaliate.
“Where is he, Dad?”
“At the koi pond,” Brandon answered.
As Sabrina walked towards the koi pond, she was not surprised to see her grandfather, Lucas King, surrounded by several of his men. Lucas King had been a notorious mafia boss for decades, and his presence always came with an air of danger and intrigue.
Sabrina approached him, feeling a sense of respect and reverence for her grandfather despite his shady dealings. Lucas King looked up as she approached and gave her a small smile.
“Sabrina, my dear. It’s good to see you.”
Sabrina smiled back at him, knowing that her grandfather cared for her deeply. “It’s good to see you too, Grandfather. How are you doing?”
Lucas King shrugged. “I’m getting old, Sabrina. But I’m still here, still in charge. What brings you here today? Is it true that you divorce the bastard?”
Sabrina hesitated for a moment before speaking, “Yes, I did. I was in court today to finalize it, Grandmother.”
Lucas King raised an eyebrow, his interest piqued. “Oh? Finally! It is long overdue, sweetheart.”
Sabrina took a deep breath before continuing and said, “I know. The divorce is final but I don’t have peace yet.”
Lucas King’s expression hardened. “I see. And what do you want me to do about it?”
Sabrina looked at him pleadingly. “I need your help, Grandfather. I know you have connections, and I know you can make things happen. Can you help me?”
Lucas King regarded her for a moment before nodding slowly. “I’ll see what I can do, Sabrina. But you have to understand, there are limits to what I can do. I won’t jeopardize my organization for your personal affairs.”
Sabrina nodded, grateful for any help she could get. “I understand, Grandfather. Thank you.”
As she turned to leave, Lucas King called out to her. “Sabrina, remember. Blood is thicker than water. You are my only grandchild, and I will always love you.”
Sabrina smiled back at him, feeling a sense of comfort in her grandfather’s words. Despite the danger and illegality of his dealings, she knew that Lucas King would always be there for her, as a family always is.
“Hmmm, can I ask a little favor, Grandfather?”
“What is it, my dear?” Lucas asked.
“I need your help to let them know the real Sabrina Hart.”
