“Kat!! Your results came out negative.” Uncle shouted before entering the patio.
After our breakfast we all decided to head out to the patio, and enjoy the morning air, while uncle Nath had gone to his room to do his office work.
“Oh! Great!” exclaimed grandma while turning to hug me.
I returned the hug and game everyone a forced smile.
“Why are you not happy kiddo?” Uncle Nath asked.
I shrugged not knowing how to answer that question.
“You okay?” Uncle asked as he came to sit in the chair beside mine.
“Yeah. Just some thoughts in my head.” I replied.
“You miss him, huh! From the moment you guys had talked, I had been noticing how gloomy you had become.” He said while draping an arm over my shoulder.
“Oh! So that’s why she was gloomy.” Grandpa commented.
“I had been talking about yours, Nina’s and Carol’s childhood trying to cheer the kid up. That damn brat he made my cupcake sad.” He pushed uncle out of the seat which made him fall on the ground making us laugh.
“Dad!” shrieked uncle.
“Shush, stop shrieking like a little girl. Let me give my cupcake my famous bear hug which has proven to remove all bad emotions. Right Bella babe?” He winked at grandma making her blush before enveloping me in his hug.
And indeed its true, it can remove the sadness out of you. If not all, at least enough to power you through.
With a kiss on my forehead he pulled back trying to assess me.
“I am fine grandpa.” I laughed again. As he squeezed me into a hug again.
“I just miss all of them, him, mom, dad, uncle Nick, aunt Olivia.” I said while smiling to Amanda at which she nodded back. “And strangely enough even grandpa Leon, even though I had only spent a day with him.” I sighed.
“Okay , I am going to pretend you didn’t talk about your other grandpa’s name in my presence.” Huffed grandpa as he folded his arms dramatically.
Now you see where mom gets her drama from. Gosh how I miss them.
“Oh hush you big baby!” Grandma smacked grandpa on the back of his head.
“It’s not strange sweetie, he’s your dad’s father, you don’t need to spend many years with him to feel the connections, even if you never met him, that connection still stays, especially since you told us how your parents kept talking about him to you. Of course you would miss him.” Grandma said as she too enveloped me in her warm hug as she too came to sit beside me. She looked at grandpa and it looked as if they are a having silent conversation.
“Enough with all these sad atmosphere. I know what will cheer you up. You guys chat while I go and bring you your favourite cupcakes.” Grandma said as she stood up.
“I will help you.” I said but grandma placed her hand on my shoulder and didn’t let me get up.
“I said for you to chat. If you are that distressed about me not having a help, I can ask Amanda. Amanda sweetie will you come to join me?” She asked to which Amanda nodded.
I am confused. Why Amanda but not me? But before she left I saw grandma nodding towards grandpa.
Uncle snarked, “Really discreet guys. Well done.” earning glare from grandma and grandpa.
Okay…. I turned towards grandpa to see him look down deep in his thoughts.
“Grandpa what is it?” I asked.
“And here I thought I could escape.” Grandpa awkwardly chuckled.
“She is Nina’s daughter dad. The one you used to often complain about never letting you to escape.” Uncle chuckled to which grandpa glared at him again to which he showed zipping his mouth.
Now they are making me very curious. Seeing my curiosity, grandpa sighed.
“This used to be your mom’s favourite place to be. She always used to say about the serenity this place gave her.” He sighed again before continuing, “You need to know something about your mom.”
“Nina is not our biological daughter. She’s adopted.” Grandpa said quickly.
I had to pinch myself to realise it’s not another one of my concocted dreams.
Shit talk about family drama.
