“Has Mike ever mention, of the company he is working in?” Amanda asked.
“Yeah. Something called Black Jack.” He answered.
Both Amanda and I looked at each other with wide eyes.
“Why? Isn’t it your dad’s company? Why did you ask?” He asked confused by our reaction.
“yeah. It’s just my dad has 2 companies. That’s why She asked.” I replied to which Amanda nodded.
“How long has he been working there ?” I asked quickly because of excitation from finding the most vital clue.
But. shit. wrong question. I wanted to know when he went to New York . Because if I am right, working in that company must be the last thought or the thought he didn’t even have.
“I don’t know but if I am right 6 months back.” He answered scratching his head while deep in thought.
I looked at Amanda for help. I cant seem to arrange the thousand questions running through my head. I don’t even know if they are questions or answers. The thrill of finally being close to the answer after searching for it for months is now not letting me have any coherent thoughts.
Amanda nodded at me. “Has he said anything else?”
“Not to me. But I remember Natalie celebrating over something 3 months back, I could never forget how happy she was while I was grieving. Later from one of the maids I got to know, he became the CEO of the company.” He said. Looking at our expressions he was very confused . “What happened dear? Something wrong?”
So Mike is the killer.
As far as I know he never met dad, yet be claimed to meet him. And that they even reconciled? Lie after lie. Why? Is it to get grandpa off his back that he only told him his lie but not the truth of his promotion? That too soon after the accident?
If he just got promoted then how did Blackjack cause the accident 3 years back and even made dad shift to New York?
So before Mike there was someone, or there’s someone along with Mike. Who is it?
“Sweetie. What is it?” Grandpa asks.
“Nothing grandpa just remembered something. So did he tell you anything. Or did you talk to him after his promotion?” I asked. The chances of Natalie telling grandpa about this is a slim chance, or else Mike wouldn’t have lied and grandpa wouldn’t be eaves dropping.
Now the only thing left to do is to decode what Mike is trying to do from the words he’s using to sugar-coat grandpa.
“The only time Mike and I had a conversation was after the accident to ask about you. He got irritated and said I never cared about him but only about Damien. And he gave me your address before hanging up.” He said curious as to what we are trying to find.
He already had his guilt, about dad, eating him up, I cant tell him the truth about Mike and make him feel more guilty.
I looked at Amanda to which she nodded and got up to leave the restaurant while I asked for the bill.
I got into the back seat as grandpa asked the driver to take us back to his house.
“I have informed Neo about this. He said he would soon try to find the evidence against him and asked us to be safe till then. Also since Mike is there, Neo has asked us not to go back to our apartment yet till he is caught. ” She whispered being careful to not let grandpa know about this. Yes he might find this later but not now.
“Well he wont have to worry then, we wont leave until we find the truth.” I said determined.
