*Kat’s POV
“Still not getting pass the lock screen?” I asked standing behind Ry to see his progress on cracking dad’s laptop.
“Nope.” He said, popping the p.
I leaned more towards the lap.
“I think dad has programmed it in such a way the program would be cancelled every time we try hacking into it and the only way to crack this is by giving the correct password.” I said while sighing.
“It seems that is the only way to get past the lock screen. Do you have any idea what the password would be?” He asked.
“If I did, we wouldn’t have spent the last few days over cracking the lock.” I sassed.
“Well, I did think that you had an idea about the password that’s why instead of guessing like a 4-year-old would do, we were wasting our time on hacking the world best hacker’s computer.” He sassed back.
“If you did know guessing was the answer you should have done that from the beginning.” I said. I was starting to get irritated.
“I-”
“This can go all day long.” I said annoyed before he could say anything more to get a rise out of me. Sometimes we are too alike that I wish I had the strength to strangle him.
“So?” Ryder questioned, asking the same thing he asked just before our teeny tiny argument.
“Truth be told I had tried the guessing part before you started programming.” I said to which he raised both his eyebrows.
“Without me?” He asked putting his hand over his heart fake hurt. I rolled my eyes. We are acting too much like children now.
“I just wanted to cut out all the possibilities. So, when I did put my mom’s name it just showed his normal working desktop. And nothing was in there.” I said. To which he just hummed.
“Do it again then.” He said. I nodded and typed in my mom’s name and the desktop turned on showing so many icons and just one folder. Which has all my father’s company’s files.
We both just sat there looking through the company files. And nothing was out of ordinary. What was bothering me was. My neat-freak dad has his laptop with thousand apps spread through the desktop and just one organised folder. Weird.
Or is it?
Is it that if we find the right program, we would get what he is intending for us to see?
“Ry, what if dad wanted us to hack his computer?” I asked.
“What do you mean?” Ry asked without turning his face towards me and just going through the files.
“Do you remember the day when my dad scolded us when we removed an app from the main folder and kept it in the desktop for our easy accessibility?” I asked to which he nodded.
“So how can my neat-freak dad’s desktop have these many apps just scattered around?” I asked again this time getting his full attention with his eyes widening.
“OHHH. I am now understanding what you are talking about. This is not the real desktop. We must hack to get the real one.” He said.
“Exactly.” I said, smirking for getting it right.
I took the lap towards me. I opened the command prompt and started coding. But just after I was on the second line the lap was snatched from me. I turned towards Ry annoyed but he was staring at the lap with determination and realized expression.
“What is it?” I asked confused.
“Do you remember whenever I was at your house your dad used to teach me hacking codes.” He asked me.
“Yeah, I do remember. Why are you asking me that now?”
He was right. Whenever we were playing together, we used to watch my dad working on his lap. Excited for seeing something different and something unknown we used to ask my dad to teach us what he was doing, but he used to decline.
But one day he said he would teach us the coding. We thought it might be because our continued questioning that he finally agreed to teach us the code just to keep us quiet. But now when I am thinking about it. He used to teach both Ry and me different codes, because we were excited, we thought it was for us to work differently and not to help one another. But dad always gave me different coding and made Ry do one code repeatedly every day after Ry was done with his daily code tasks.
And me being a kid I thought it might be because I was the daughter of the world best hacker, that I completed my correctly and Ry did it wrong and my dad was making him do it again.
But was it just punishment?
“I got it.” He said.
I turned to see a lock screen again but this time with different password hint. It said My son’s full name .
“His son?” I asked.
“I hope it doesn’t reveal that your dad has ch-” He started saying.
“Don’t you even dare say it.” I said it with a glare for him saying out loud what I was thinking. To which he just shrugged.
Now my dad would not c-.
Before I could complete my train of thoughts. We heard the doorbell. When I got up to get it. Ry kept his hand on my shoulder and said the servant would get it. I nodded and sat down.
We both kept staring at the screen confused. I even typed my name just out of curiosity as my dad always used to say I was had the mentality of a boy cause I always copied what Ry did because I had a huge crush on him.
“Who is the son?” Ry asked again.
“It might be you.” Said the guest who was responsible for ringing the doorbell.
