*Kat’s POV
I woke up to a vibrating sound. Not knowing where it is from I got up and found Ry was sleeping too. I shook him to wake him up and that’s when he realised that his phone was vibrating. He immediately answered the phone.
“Yeah we will be right there.” He hung his phone and said, “It was Mark. He has come.”
“Oh its already been 2 hours? It sure felt like 2 min.” I got up and stretched realising it indeed was more than just 2 minutes.
He chuckled and said, “Sure my chest was a good pillow that you felt your 2 hour sleep to be just 2 min.”
“No more like I fell numb to the hard chest of yours.” I said smirking while walking back to the warehouse.
He soon caught up to me chuckling, “you still mad about me not calling you beautiful?”
“noooooo” I said mocking, to which he laughed. HE FUCKING LAUGHED. I elbowed his ribs.
“Owww, it hurts.” He whines.
“Good.” I smiled victoriously.
We walked to the warehouse to see Mark holding up two empty cans of petroleum.
“All set?”
“Yes sir, waiting for your instructions.” He said putting the cans down and giving Ry the lighter.
Ry turned to me and asks, “Ready?”
“Hell yeah.” I said rubbing my palms together. “But wasn’t this warehouse important for your company?”
“The place where my parents died is not very important for our company.” He said while lighting the paper. He threw the paper on to the floor and we both watched while the place burned.
I turned to watch his face. He was clenching and unclenching his jaws. I took his palm in mine causing him to look at me. Behind his emotionless blue eyes was a hurting soul. He smiled at me to show that this wasn’t effecting me but I knew better than believing him based on seeing whats on outside. He clearly was hurting, yet he didnt want me to see it.
This place was once so close to his father’s heart. This was the very first place their company started their importing and exporting. The warehouse his father was very proud of. His father used to bring both of us here to show us how the company’s warehouse worked. A knowledge that we often ignored that behind the rising company there’s a small place where it stored everything, and where thousands of people worked and was often ignored of their handworks.
I squeezed his palms to him my support which made him to remove his emotionless mask causing his eyes to tear up. We both looked straight at the place being burnt down.
“Ry what happened to those who worked here?”
“They were given promotion to my main branch here in New York.”
I hummed. They had their branches Minnesota, California, Illinois and few other states. Their main branch is in New York. Amsterdam was where they started along with my dad and that’s how our parents met. Later it was Ryder who started branches in other states. He always wanted to make his parents proud but little did he know his parents were already very proud of him though they never told him directly their actions proved so. But Ryder being like any adolescent teenager ignored those signs and believed his parents were never proud of him. After their death it became worse and it was set into his mid to work relentless to make his parents proud which did him good at the same time made me loose him.
“Did you notice that.” Ryder’s question brought me out of my thoughts.
“What-” Now I noticed.
There was a clear circle on the ground were the fire didn’t touch them.
“Extinguish the fire right now.” He ordered to Mark.
“Yes sir.”
Mark and three other bodyguard of Ryder’s went to extinguish the fire while we waited to see the cause of the place not burning, though I had a clear idea why.
“Are you thinking what I am thinking?” He asked looking at his team working to extinguish the fire.
“If you aren’t thinking about good, juicy steak to eat then no you are not thinking what I am thinking.” I joked.
“Haha very funny.”
“Admit it, it was funny.” I poked his stomach with my elbow. To which he raised his eyebrows.
“Maybe not.” I replied.
After his team extinguished the fire, Ry asked his team to get him a shovel. And I was surprised to see one of his bodyguards getting a shovel from the trunk of the car.
His team is very efficient.
Ry took the shovel from his guard and turned to me.
“Stay back here don’t come in with me, it can be very hot and dangerous inside.”
“Hell no I wanna see it.”
“Fine come in and if you get burnt don’t expect me to treat you.” He said walking in.
“We both know you wont keep true to your word.” I replied following him in.
We both got to the spot were it was clear from the fire, no burns, no petroleum nothing. As if the tile had just been placed.
“Dint you pour petrol here?” asked Ry to Mark.
“Yes sir we did.” To which Ry hummed.
When Ry raised the shovel he was stopped by Mark.
“Let me do it sir.”
“No need I can do it by myself.” He turned to do it but not before hearing me clearing my throat to which he turned to me raising his eyebrows. I raised my eyebrows as well, to which he sighed.
“Thanks Mark.” Ry said and turned to me to which I smiled and nodded my head. I smiled even more when I heard a gasp behind me, not even a doubt that it was from Mark.
Ry began shovelling the spot. After 15 min we both were staring at each other at what we found in the ground.
Dad’s original laptop.
