Chapter 52
After meeting with the elders, Kelly still maintained his stance. He was not going to back down no matter what the elders said. He was never an obedient boy like most of them thought. He had only been obedient when his grandfather was alive because he wanted to assure him that he could leave the pack in his care. He was not going to listen to anyone and he was bent on fighting Matthew.
The elders have never seen someone as selfish as Kelly who did not even care about the people he led. All he cared about was his pride and nothing else. They were now starting to regret why they supported Gael in appointing him as the alpha. They were even starting to be suspicious after thinking about all the events that took place before and after Kelly was named alpha.
They were well aware that Ashton did not deserve everything that happened to him, but because they wanted to maintain their faces, they lost such a good leader. They could only grit their teeth and pray to their ancestors and the moon goddess for protection. If only Gael was still alive, he would have dealt with his grandson.
But unfortunately, there were no ifs in this damned world………….
After Sean, Tom, and the rest came back from their meeting with Ashton, other alphas started to see some changes in how they operated their packs.
No matter how much they pissed them off, they never fought back and they would even smile at the enemy and say that it was okay. Their changes were so drastic that even their pack members were astounded.
Other pack leaders were getting more and more confused. They inquired about what was going on and when Tom and the team told them that they have anonymously decided to live in peace, those causing trouble were stunned.
They were used to fighting and causing drama, how could they even maintain a balance among themselves? Now what was with their attitude of wanting to live in, it did not make any sense to those who were used to fighting for everything.
Others even laughed at them mockingly as if they were out of their minds for coming up with such stupid ideas. Since the era of their ancestors, they have lived by fighting for resources. The strong were respected while the weak were trampled on, were they sure that they will be able to maintain the balance with their little powers?
“Ha ha ha Tom, what makes you think that you can actually reunite this land? Don’t you think you are dreaming so much?” Jovan, one of the alphas who thought that Tom and the rest were playing around said.
“Jovan, you are my good friend that is why I came to talk to you about the initiative of promoting peace. Imagine a world where people exist in harmony and there is no drawing the lines. Imagine a world where there are no bloodshed and people truly care about each other!”
“It will be very boring!” Jovan said his attitude spelled trouble.
Tom looked at him, not minding his attitude. He had to be patient with people like Jovan because they only listened to reasons. He had to take his time to convince him to at least consider the option.
“And that is where you get it wrong, my friend. We lost our parents when we were young because of these senseless wars. Do you want our children to go through the same pain we went through?” Tom asked in an even tone.
He knew that Jovan was just making things difficult for him but he was someone who could see the bigger picture, and that is why he was not mad when he talked to him like that.
“Tell me, who came up with this idea?” Jovan asked. He knew Tom too well. If he was the one to come up with the idea, he would not have waited until now to initiate it.
When Tom heard his question, he hesitated for a while because he did not know how to answer. Although Ashton had told them they were allowed to say the truth about him as long as they did not disclose his location….
……. Not everyone believed in Ashton as unconditionally as he did, so for a moment, he did not know what to say.
“Why aren’t you saying anything?” Jovan asked after seeing the look on Tom’s face.
“To be honest, it is not my idea,” Tom said.
“I know that. A bunch of you suddenly disappeared a few days ago, we thought that you guys were going on some hunting but after you came back, you were all behaving weirdly.” Jovan said.
“Tell me whose idea it is and I will see if I can consider it. Just like you said, I don’t want my children to go through the same pain of losing their parents at such a young age. Besides, I have been feeling restless nowadays. After acquiring the eastern land, I have some gut feeling that something is going to happen to me.” Jovan said.
“I don’t know if I am being overly paranoid but I can feel a pair of cold eyes staring at me every time I leave the house. Whoever it is, knows how to conceal himself because I haven’t been able to catch any scent.” Jovan said. He felt creepy every time he thought about it and he was even afraid of leaving the house.
“I am sorry bro to hear that. A few of us were called by Ashton a few days ago and he is the one who came up with the idea of reuniting this land.” Tom decided to bite the bullet and spoke.
“What…. Who….? who did you just say invited you?” Jovan asked in an excited tone.
“Ashton, you know……”
“of course, I know. Dude, why didn’t you tell me that you were going to meet Ashton?” Jovan asked in an excited voice. All his indifference vanished in thin air.
“You know how much I worship him, dude, are we still brothers?” he pat Tom on the shoulder so hard that Tom almost fell from his chair.
“Ha ha ….. sorry I had forgotten about that! Actually, I was surprised when I received his summon. You know that rumors have been going around and the fact that he is a fugitive, I had to be discreet so as not to give any hint to his enemies.” Tom said.
“I understand, I understand!” Jovan nodded. “It was unfortunate for someone like him to have faced something so terrible. I really felt sorry for him when I heard the news!”
“So, you also believe that there is no way Ashton would do something of that kind?” Tom questioned when he heard Jovan’s words.
Jovan nodded his head with absolute confidence, “Of course, how could someone that I look up to and worship be that fickle? Although I did not have a chance to meet Ashton face to face, I know he is someone who does everything with complete conviction and he cares about his family more than even his life!”
“Wow, I never knew that Ashton had so many die-hard fans. So, what do you say?”
“Of course, I am in. I am going to talk to my pack and if anyone dares to oppose, heh!”
“Don’t do anything stupid!” Tom warned in a low voice.
“What stupid thing can I do? I will just teach them a little lesson!”
“Okay. Let us continue to spread the gospel. If we mobilize more and our campaign becomes successful, I can assure you that we will become the biggest benefactors.”
“Hey bro, the next time you are going to meet Ashton, can I tag along?” Jovan asked with sparkling eyes. You could tell just how excited he was from his expression.
“of course. That is not a big deal.” Tom answered generously making Jovan almost jump up from sheer excitement.
