Kelly waited nervously and just as his grandfather was about to make the decision, he heard a voice in his head. Kevin had mind linked with him at some point and just as he was about to block him out, he heard him say something that made him pause in his actions.
“Alpha, there is big news!” Came Kevin’s anxious voice.
“What is it, what happened?” Kelly asked impatiently. He was about to succeed so what was it that wanted to come his way? Whatever it was, he won’t allow anything to sabotage his plans, especially when he was so close.
“Ashton is back but he is unconscious!” Kevin said.
“What did you just say? Say that again?!” Kelly asked, extremely shocked by the news. It was a good thing that Gael had his eyes closed so he did not see his reaction or else he might have become suspicious.
Kevin on the other hand felt his head buzz at Kelly’s voice. For God’s sake, did he not know that he was actually in someone’s head? Could he not control his wolf from bursting a little?
“Some people came from the main house and they said that Ashton is back but he has been poisoned by the wolfbane and he is unconscious. They wanted to report it to the old man but we blocked them and immediately told them to go back.” Kevin hastily explained.
If the old man knew that Ashton was back, everything that Kelly had done would go down the drain, how could they let that happen?
Once Ashton resumed his role as the alpha, they will be labeled as traitors and Kevin did not even want to start imagining what their fate could be like. He was sure that they will be the first people Ashton and the old man would deal with before anything else.
All they could do was to make sure that Kelly became the alpha, even if it meant concealing such important news from the elders of the pack. They were already on the very last step and since they had already boarded the boat, they had no choice but to ride till the end.
“What? When did that happen?” came another booming sound in Kevin’s head,
“Just a moment ago. They said that he was with that woman. Even the people who came to report did not know how Ashton arrived at the house because they only saw him lying on the floor out of the blues while that woman stood by his side but he had already lost consciousness.”
Kelly was shocked but then a smile formed on his lips. It was good that his brother was back just as he was about to take over the pack. He will let him witness what a failure he was as he takes over everything that he once deemed important to him.
“Make sure that the news of his return does not reach the elders’ ears. I will deal with my grandfather right away and I must be the alpha before tonight ends.” Kelly said.
“I have already taken care of it. But you have to hurry up. We don’t know when he will wake up or if others saw him.” Kevin said.
“Get in contact with the pack healers. Inform them that I want my brother to be awake in one hour no matter the cost. I don’t care whether his condition can take it, as long he sees me take everything from him, I don’t care whether he dies after that or not.” Kelly ordered coldly.
“Yes alpha,” Kevin said. This spoilt and arrogant brat was at least giving out the feeling of an alpha. Kevin sighed in relief and after organizing for a few men to remain on guard outside the room, he left to make the arrangements.
Kelly looked at his grandfather and said without hesitation. “Grandfather, let us go to the sacred hall. Everything has already been prepared what is remaining is just a word from you.”
Gael had no choice at the moment. He knew that if he delayed any further, Kelly might do something drastic that could put the pack at risk although everything was already at risk.
He regretted calling this grandson of his when Ashton had left. If he had been patient and looked over the pack on behalf of Ashton, he wouldn’t be under so much pressure at this moment.
Although Kelly pretended that he had been taking care of the pack, Gael knew well enough that all the rioting and other members of the pack leaving was all Kelly’s doing. But what could he do at this moment? He had to own up to his words even if he did not want to.
“Help me up, let us go,” Gael said. He was very old and the energy in his body was depleting with each passing day. He did not know even if he could hold on for another month.
“Okay, grandpa.” Kelly agreed. He almost could not contain his excitement as he went to help his grandfather.
But because he could not let his grandfather see through him, he suppressed his excitement with a serious expression.
Gael, with the help of Kelly, entered the main house. Everyone bow in respect at the sight of him and others even knelt.
Although he was too old and even needed help with his walking, he still had the oppressive aura of an alpha. The members of the pack were very submissive and no one dared look him in the eyes.
“Grandfather, it is time,” Kelly said after his grandfather sat on the main seat in the main hall.
The hall was big with rows of seats on both sides. The only seat at the front belonged to the leader of the pack. If Ashton was around, he would be the one occupying the seat.
The others rows of seats belonged to the elders of the pack, the betas, and the pack warriors. The servants were not even allowed to set foot in the sacred hall because they were deemed unworthy.
Gael sat on the main seat and with his head raised to the sky, he gave out a deep howl. It was so deep with a lot of power that anyone who heard it trembled in fear.
Even Maya who was taking care of Ashton felt her heart tremble when she heard the howl.
“Isn’t that an alpha’s howl?” The pack members started talking among themselves.
“It is not just an alpha’s howl, but someone who has been an alpha and is full of power.”
“I feel like my heart just stopped for a moment. That was so deep and dangerous.”
“What do you guys know?” The experienced pack members who were passing in a hurry looked at the people talking with contempt.
“You heard the powerful howl too?” The two people who were talking, a man and a woman asked.
“It is not just a normal howl! But what could omegas like you possibly understand? It is a special call from the person on top of the pack!”
“You mean alpha Ashton is back?” The two asked, surprised.
“Who said that Ashton is the most powerful wolf in the pack? You guys have seen so little of the world. I won’t waste my time on you anymore.” The person said and left with his partner.
“What is wrong with him? Did he have to snob us like that?”
“What are you worrying about? We have just joined the pack and don’t know a lot of things. And besides, we are only the servants to some of the prominent figures of the pack, how can we know so much?”
“Why don’t we follow them and see what is going on? Maybe something important is about to happen to the pack or maybe the pack is under attack from the enemy.”
“Okay. Let us go.” The two people followed the source of the voice and found themselves standing outside a magnificent house.
“Wow, this is beautiful.”
“Is this the main house of the pack where every ritual and every important event of the pack happens?”
“It seems so.”
“You two you are not allowed to be there.” The guards who were at the entrance saw them and after feeling their auras and knowing that they were just mere omegas, they stopped them.
“Why can’t we go in?”
“Because your ranks are too low. Not just anyone is allowed in this kind of place.”
