Maya closed her eyes. She had just discovered that she could perform spells meaning she might be a warlock but she did not know what to do about it. And of how she came to be, she still had no idea.
What was currently on her mind was the dying Ashton and she needed to do something about it.
Although she had stayed with Ashton’s pack for some time, the only place she was most familiar with was Ashton’s villa, which was now filled with wolfbane.
She knew that she could not waste another minute because once she gets affected by it too, they will be both down and no one will save them.
And if this poison stayed in Ashton’s body for long, it will be fatal to him and the consequences might be unimaginable. He could not even wolf now because of the wolfbane, if this continued, he might end up losing his wolf forever and Maya did not know if he could ever live with that.
Kelly was also out there hunting them so Maya had to be very careful with every step that she took. She cannot let Ashton land in Kelly’s hands.
“Maya, you can do this. You are stronger than you think.” As she was fretting about what to do, she heard a voice in her head. Apparently, her wolf had also felt her predicament and uneasiness.
“Calista I’m really afraid of losing him. I don’t know what to do or where to even take us!” Maya replied to her wolf.
“Relax, take a deep breath and let loose of the air in your lungs then you will know what to do. Maya, he is depending on you to save him, don’t let us down.”
“Okay Calista, I am not letting him die here today with me.”
“Now that is the way to go girl. Save our mate.”
After talking with her mate, Maya calmed down a great bit and started chanting some strange words that she did not even know the meaning of with her eyes closed and placed her hand on Ashton’s body. It was like there was something in her directing her on what to do. By the time she opened her eyes, she found that they were in a very big and ancient villa.
She had intended for them to teleport to the northern mountains but they somehow landed in a different place. The place they landed was full of people moving around busily as if they were preparing for something. Maya stood in the living room with the unconscious Ashton, unaware of what she was supposed to do.
She did not whether she should hide or she should ask for help. Because honestly, everyone at the place looked like a stranger. Just as she was still debating, she heard a deep voice call Ashton’s name.
“Alpha Ashton?” Someone called out. Maya turned towards the source of the voice and saw a middle-aged man walking towards them. His back was straight and he had this majestic and imposing aura around him, and he had a bloodthirsty feeling around him. He seemed to be someone who had been on the bloody field for a good while.
His eyes were sharp as he scrutinized Maya up and down, making Maya lower her head uncomfortably.
Although he was looking at her with so much scrutiny and his gaze was sharp, it was also filled with caution as he approached them.
‘If this person knew Ashton it could only mean that they had not left the pack and her teleportation had failed. But where was this place and who were these people?’ Maya thought as she also looked at the man with vigilance.
“What happened?” He asked Maya. Maya did not want to say anything to anyone. She knew that Ashton’s brother had already taken over half of the pack and she did not know who she could trust.
“What happened to the Alpha?” The man raised his voice after seeing that Maya was not going to say anything.
“He had been infected!” Maya said. Although the man unleashed his aura of a formidable warrior, Maya did not quiver in fear. She had already regained her composure. She answered the question in an even tone without any cowardice.
“Infected?” The man asked. Although he was surprised at how Maya could keep her calm under his tough and imposing aura, he did not let it show on his face.
“The wolfbane. He cannot shift and I think he is becoming more of a human.” Maya said. Although she did not trust anyone, for now, all that she cared about was saving Ashton. Other consequences or whatever the price she had to pay, all that will come later. But now Ashton was her main priority.
And seeing that the man was calling him respectfully his alpha, she decided to half believe him. She also had already guessed where they were. This was probably the pack’s main house where Ashton’s grandfather lived.
After all, everything in the house screamed of royalty. And by the fact that Ashton’s grandfather had been once an alpha king of his generation, the layout of the house did not fall far from that of royalties.
“How did the young alpha get infected by the wolfbane?” The man asked.
“It is a long story. For now, our main purpose is to save him. Please let me know if you can help or if I should some help somewhere else.” Maya said. If this man continued to ask questions, she will immediately take Ashton out of this place.
“I will take him to the guest’s room and immediately summon the pack healers.” The man said after feeling the urgency of the matter.
“Thank you. May I ask who you are?” Maya inquired.
“Am Andrew.” The man replied.
“Okay, Andrew thank you. When your alpha gets better I will be sure to tell him to thank you.” Maya said.
“It is my responsibility to make sure that my alpha is safe, please don’t worry.”
Andrew called a few men and they carried Ashton to one of the guestrooms.
Maya followed along and although Andrew tried to stop her, she could not yield. Ashton was her mate and her alpha, how could she stay still while he was in danger?
The pack healers came quickly when they were summoned. They immediately gave Ashton a shot to help with getting rid of the wolfbane and after making sure that everything else was okay, they left.
In the huge room, Ashton was lying on the bed with his eyes closed. His sharp looks and his imposing aura had diminished and only a gentle and harmless look could be seen on his handsome face.
“You are Maya, right?” Andrew asked.
Maya looked at him and nodded. When Maya had been saved and brought to the pack, Andrew had gone on a mission and had not been around.
It was only after he came that he started hearing rumors about how their alpha got a jinx as his mate and to save her life, he had abandoned his pack to go to some unknown place.
Andrew had argued with almost everyone that Ashton could never do such a thing. But when he went to visit the dying Gael, who was Ashton’s grandfather, and heard him confess, Andrew immediately gave up hope for his alpha.
He never knew that Ashton could turn out to be such kind of a leader. Just because of a woman, who could not even be his mate, he had actually abandoned his cause of being an alpha?
It was truly laughable and Andrew was yet to come to terms with that.
