Queenie had no intention of making things easy for Vanessa from the very beginning. She bribed the teacher of University A, Mack, to trip Vanessa up in the exam. She just didn’t expect that Vanessa actually passed the exam with flying colors.
But it was okay, the fun hadn’t started yet!
The banquet soon began in earnest. Vanessa’s admission to University A undoubtedly gave Sebastian a boost of glory, and was carried by him throughout the whole process, introducing and showing off to other people from the gentry family, even Felton was served as a foil.
Queenie was getting more jealous. She used to be the moon among stars!
But why did Vanessa steal all the limelight once she returned?
Everyone around was complimenting and praising her as if she was a natural talent, the next Chopin. Everyone praised her for being smart, excellent, and a good kid, but no one remembered that Queenie was also a student at University A!
Just then, a discordant voice came through, “Everyone, don’t be fooled by Vanessa! The piece she played on the entrance exam was not composed by her! It was plagiarized!”
Everyone looked in the direction of the source of the sound and saw Mack coming over with a gloomy face, with a piece of music score in his hand.
Vanessa raised her eyebrows slightly after seeing him, “You?”
‘me!” Mack sneered, pointing at Vanessa, and said to the crowd, “I’m a teacher in the Music Department of University A! I was the one who proctored Vanessa on the day of the entrance exam! I thought there’s something wrong with the score at that time, but she just wouldn’t admit it! She even lied that she’s the composer! Shameless!”
These words instantly caused a commotion. No one expected that the teacher of University A would suddenly come out to accuse Vanessa. If it’s really like what he said, wasn’t it too shameless for Vanessa to plagiarize someone else’s score and still falsely claim it’s her original?
Felton became furious instantly, “Don’t you bullshit here! My daughter is definitely not that kind of person! You say you’re a teacher at University A, who can prove that?”
Queenie spoke in a whisper, “Felton… He’s really a teacher at University A. I’ve seen him on campus before.”
The crowd was in an uproar.
“Jesus! He is really a teacher at University A. It seems that what he said is true, otherwise why did he suddenly run out to accuse a student?”
“Right, I did not expect Vanessa to be a bad girl, she looks quiet. You can’t judge a book by its cover!”
“I told you, she grew up in the countryside. I’m afraid she can’t even recognize musical notation, how can she compose?”
Listening to all those harsh ridicules, Vanessa’s eyes went cold, and looked straight at Mack, “You say I’m a plagiarist, do you have proof?”
“Of course I do!” Mack was waiting for her to say it. He immediately lifted the score in his hand, “When I got back that day, I started to look through all the major books and records and finally, I found a score that was very similar to the piece that Vanessa played. If you guys don’t believe me, I can play it for you now!”
Sebastian had originally prepared a piano in the hall in order to show off and intended to ask Vanesa to play a song, which would be convenient for Mack now.
He went straight over and sat down, first played a recording of Vanessa’s playing that day and started playing right after.
“Listen carefully and see if there is any difference between these two songs!”
The next second, a piece of smooth and melodious piano music echoed in the hall, but coincidentally, it was really very similar to the recording of Vanessa’s playing, except for a few differences in the high bass. They were almost exactly the same!
When Mack finished, he scowled at Vanessa coldly, “Vanessa, in front of the irrefutable evidence, what more do you have to say? You are clearly a plagiarist who should be despised by everyone!”
