Dolores fell silent, sensing a presence nearby. But as she looked around, she realized that there was no one in sight, and the surroundings were unusually quiet.
“What are you doing?” Dolores asked, puzzled.
Matthew glanced down at her, his eyelashes fluttering slightly.
She was seated on his lap in a rather awkward position.
The posture was undeniably suggestive.
Dolores’ face immediately turned crimson, and even her neck flushed. She resembled a cooked shrimp.
“You… You…”
Dolores attempted to cover her face with her hand, but Matthew seized her wrist, restraining her movements.
His Adam’s apple bobbed up and down, and his dark eyes shimmered with a hint of mischief, creating an alluring allure.
He chuckled, his voice husky. “If you’re going to kill me, I can’t die with regrets.”
Dolores’ mind went blank.
At that moment, she was incapable of processing any thoughts.
“When will you accept me?” His lips drew nearer to hers, his breath causing a shiver to course through Dolores’ entire body, like an electric current surging through her skin, reaching her limbs.
Her eyes glistened with a thin layer of tears.
“I don’t know.”
“But I can’t wait any longer.” His affectionate gaze bore into her, akin to the scorching sun in a tropical desert, making Dolores feel feverish, rendering her unable to utter a word for what seemed like an eternity.
“If you don’t say something, I’ll take it as a silent approval.”
One of his hands traced a path down her spine, reaching her waist…
A harsh glare from the rearview mirror momentarily blinded Dolores, instantly dampening her mood. She pushed Matthew away and said, “Nope. I’m not ready yet. You promised me you’d wait until I’m ready.”
“But you just acquiesced.”
Dolores was at a loss for words.
“I didn’t,” she denied.
“There seems to be someone.” Dolores spotted a black car parked behind Matthew through the car window.
However, Matthew interpreted it as an excuse. “Don’t try to fool me.”
Dolores adopted a serious expression. “I’m not fooling you. It’s a black car with the license plate number ZQ6668.”
Matthew paused, then looked back.
Sure enough, there was a black car behind them.
His expression darkened slightly, and the romantic atmosphere in the car cooled down.
“Do you know the owner?” Dolores noticed the change in Matthew’s demeanor.
Matthew confirmed with a grunt.
It was his father’s car. How could he not recognize the owner?
But why was he here now?
He buttoned up Dolores’ clothes and instructed her, “Stay in the car.”
Dolores nodded.
After helping Dolores fix her attire, he opened the car door, got out, and made his way towards the car behind them.
“That’s really Matthew,” Victoria said to her husband.
Jayden frowned. “Why is he here at this moment?”
Why was he becoming more and more rebellious lately?
Jayden initially intended to confront Matthew alone, but Victoria was concerned that they would end up arguing, so she accompanied him.
Thomas stepped out of the car and respectfully greeted Matthew. “Young master.”
But Matthew simply ignored him, his gaze fixed on the individuals inside the car.
“Are you free now?” Jayden inquired.
Matthew responded casually, “Is there something you need?”
“Can’t I come to see you without a reason?” Jayden always tried to have a calm and reasonable conversation with Matthew, but he always received an indifferent and cold look in response.
Jayden would get angry every time.
Victoria grabbed his hand to comfort him, urging him not to get upset.
Matthew chuckled. “Do you have some time?”
When Matthew turned 20, Jayden handed over the company to him.
Since then, he had never bothered with company affairs and instead focused on pursuing this woman at home.
Matthew often contemplated that if his father and this woman were to have a child together in the future, he would surely let that child take control of the company.
While Matthew didn’t care about the company, he couldn’t accept the fact that his father had fallen in love with another woman.
His father had brought this woman home less than a month after his mother’s death.
Evidently, he had been cheating on his mother with this woman before her passing.
“What’s your attitude?” Jayden furrowed his brows.
It was challenging for Jayden to remain composed in the face of Matthew’s blatant sarcasm.
Victoria glanced at her husband, sighing helplessly. This father and son duo were always at odds.
She opened the car door and stepped out, speaking in an extremely humble manner, “Landon Herbert came to our home looking for your father because of some news.”
“Don’t meddle in my affairs.” Matthew left after those words.
“We’re just concerned about you.” Tears welled up in Victoria’s eyes as she watched his tall figure walking away. She added, “Even though the Herbert family is currently facing difficulties, they have a reputation and connections. If we openly offend them, they might cause harm to you.”
But Matthew continued walking as if he hadn’t heard her.
“Stop!” Jayden shouted sternly. He took a deep breath and asked, “Which woman are you with now?”
Matthew froze for a moment, then slowly turned around to face the grey-haired man standing under a street lamp. “Have I asked you which woman you’re with?”
Jayden trembled with anger. “It’s been so many years. You should let it go!”
“Since I haven’t interfered in your affairs, please refrain from intruding into mine.” Matthew didn’t utter any harsh words this time, but his tone was icy. There was no emotion in his voice, as if he were speaking to a stranger.
He turned around again after finishing his statement. After taking a couple of steps, he stopped and spoke to the man behind him without facing him, “As for the news, I know how to handle it appropriately.”
Jayden felt frustrated. “Go home.”
Victoria didn’t move. She simply watched Matthew’s retreating figure.
“Let’s go.” Jayden reached out to hold her hand.
He had confidence in Matthew’s abilities and believed he would resolve the situation.
When Matthew took over WY Group at the age of 20, he was just a college graduate, but now Jayden felt proud of his accomplishments.
“I just want to see him.” Victoria wiped away her tears.
Jayden stood by her side, holding her hand, and also gazing at Matthew’s back. “You should be happy.”
Victoria still felt a bit unsettled. Yes, she should be happy now.
Matthew returned to the car and started driving without saying a word.
Dolores noticed his sour mood. She didn’t ask any questions and simply sat beside him in silence.
Matthew didn’t know where to go, so he aimlessly drove through the city. Dolores reached out and placed her hand on the back of his hand.
She understood him in that moment.
Coral had told her about the conflicts between Matthew and his father before.
And she recognized the people who had gotten out of the car earlier. Victoria had come to see her before, so she recognized her.
Dolores didn’t have a negative impression of Victoria because she felt that Victoria was different from other homewreckers.
However, she was still a homewrecker and now Jayden’s official wife.
“My father also cheated on my mother, so I know how you feel right now.”
Matthew fixed his gaze on the back of his hand, spun the steering wheel, and parked the car by the roadside. He reached out to embrace her. When her warm, soft body nestled into his arms, he felt his heart fill with something other than emptiness.
He rested his head on her shoulder and whispered, “Let me hold you for a while. Just a little while.”
