Chapter 70: Wouldn’t Let Him Get Away

Book:Trapping My Sweet Wife Published:2024-5-1

Dolores’s demeanor was resolute, and she had made it clear that she would leave if Abbott didn’t come over.
She was already furious with Abbott for investigating her, and Matthew’s threat involving her children only fueled her anger. Now, Abbott was refusing her request.
In such a situation, it would be odd for Dolores to maintain a pleasant attitude.
When Abbott heard her words, he dared not be absent.
He arrived at the door in less than ten minutes, indicating that he must have been staying near the hotel.
As Dolores heard a knock on the door, she opened it. Abbott stood outside, offering a slight smile. “Ms. Flores…”
Dolores ignored him, turning back into the room. She pointed to the stack of medications on the table and instructed him on how to use them.
Abbott frowned. “What did you say?”
Matthew was injured?
How was that possible?
Abbott clearly didn’t believe her.
Dolores didn’t have time to argue with him. “If you don’t believe me, go see for yourself. I’m leaving now.”
After finishing her words, she opened the door and stepped out.
Abbott stood by the bed, pacing back and forth. He couldn’t help but wonder how Matthew had gotten injured.
Eventually, curiosity overwhelmed his rationality. He reached out his arm and attempted to lift the blanket covering Matthew, hoping to see what had happened. However, before he could raise the blanket, the man with his eyes closed suddenly opened his eyes. “What are you doing?”
Abbott froze in place.
“I, I heard that you got injured…” he stuttered.
Matthew slapped his hand away and scanned the suite. He was alone, and he furrowed his brows. “Where’s that woman?”
Abbott could see Matthew’s suspicion and asked, “Are you looking for Ms. Flores?”
Matthew remained silent, seemingly acquiescing to it.
“She called me this morning, asking me to come over, and then she left.” Abbott continued to observe him with curiosity after speaking.
It was evident that Dolores had been here last night. Could it be that Matthew had forced himself on her, and she resisted by stabbing him?
The more Abbott thought about it, the more plausible it seemed.
Had he been stabbed by this woman?
Abbott imagined the scene where Dolores had rejected Matthew the previous night and couldn’t help but let out a small chuckle.
“What are you laughing at?” Matthew sat up.
“Nothing.” Abbott quickly restrained his smile and spoke solemnly, “Mr. Nelson, how did you get injured? Did Ms. Flores fight back last night?”
“…”
Matthew scowled. “Get out! Bring me some clean clothes.”
Had he really been rejected?
Abbott wanted to laugh.
He wanted to witness Matthew’s rejection.
Was there still a woman who could turn him down?
Oh, how rare it was! Unfortunately, he couldn’t witness it himself.
What a shame.
Matthew lifted his blanket and got out of bed, wearing only his underwear. His upper body was wrapped in bandages as he walked gloomily toward Abbott. “Is it amusing?”
Abbott opened his mouth, struggling to catch his breath. He shook his head decisively. “It’s not funny at all, not funny. I’ll get you some clothes.”
He quickly turned around and hurried away, afraid that Matthew might seek revenge if he stayed.
Matthew poured a glass of water and drank it. Then, he noticed the chair by the bed. It seemed like Dolores had slept there last night.
He sensed that she had spoken to him, but he couldn’t clearly hear her words.
He felt relieved that Dolores had stayed and taken care of him before leaving.
Exhausted from not having slept all night, Dolores returned home. Her two children were being well taken care of by Jessica. After showering and changing her clothes, she went into the room to check on her children. Simona was still asleep, her little lips pouting. Her rosy cheeks made her look like a doll. Dolores kissed her daughter’s cheek before stepping out of the room.
Samuel had already woken up and was washing his face and rinsing his mouth in the bathroom.
“You didn’t come back last night. Was it because of work?” Jessica emerged from the kitchen wearing an apron and looked at her daughter.
Dolores felt guilty and couldn’t meet her mother’s gaze. She averted her eyes and looked elsewhere. “Yeah, something came up at the office.”
Jessica stared at her daughter’s guilty expression. “I saw you getting into another car after you came back yesterday.”
Dolores was taken aback. She didn’t know how to explain. How could she forget that Matthew had driven his car to her doorstep last night?
It wasn’t surprising that Jessica had seen it.
“That man is from the Nelson family?” Although it was phrased as a question, Jessica already knew the answer.
Dolores nodded. “Yes.”
“Why are you still involved with him?” Jessica asked, her voice filled with anger. “You two have already divorced, and you have no connection with him anymore. Look at Sampson. He’s such a great guy. Why don’t you cherish him? Are you trying to complicate things and make everything worse?”
“I’m not,” Dolores tried to explain.
She didn’t want to get involved with Matthew.
She understood her place very well.
She also hadn’t forgotten the resolute look on his face when he wanted a divorce.
“Good,” Jessica replied sternly. “I’m telling you; I will never agree if you have anything to do with him!” It was rare for Jessica to speak to her daughter in such a serious manner, but she couldn’t ignore this matter.
After all, Dolores was still young and could easily lose herself in love.
She had two children, and if that man truly accepted her, he wouldn’t have divorced her in the first place.
It had been challenging for her to give birth to two children after the car accident. Jessica was afraid that Dolores would get hurt again.
By the bathroom door, Samuel’s eyes widened. “What were Grandma and Mommy talking about?”
That man was Mommy’s ex-husband?
The heartless man who had abandoned Mommy, his sister, and him?
In Samuel’s mind, if Matthew was Mommy’s ex-husband, then he was the father of him and his sister.
He clenched his little fists, unwilling to let that heartless man off the hook.
No way, he wouldn’t allow this heartless man to get away with it!
“Samuel, what are you thinking? Come over and eat.” Jessica placed breakfast on the table and looked at Samuel, who was standing by the bathroom door, calling out to him.
“I’m coming.” Samuel rushed over.
Dolores lifted him onto the chair and began peeling an egg for him.
Samuel gazed at Dolores’s profile, unable to understand why that heartless man would abandon such a beautiful mother.
Was he blind?
Dolores carefully placed the egg on Samuel’s plate. “What’s on your mind? Focus on eating,” she advised.
Samuel pushed his plate toward Dolores. “Mommy, you eat.”
Dolores feigned annoyance and handed him the egg. “You’re still growing. If you don’t get enough nutrients, you won’t grow taller. Do you want to be short?”
“That’s impossible. I’m already taller than average. I’m going to be 1. 9 meters tall,” Samuel declared confidently.
Jessica smiled. “That’s too tall. 1. 8 meters would be just fine.”
“No, I have to be 1. 9 meters tall,” Samuel insisted seriously.
That heartless man was already 1. 85 meters tall. I must be taller than him and give him a good beating!
Jessica thought he was just joking. She didn’t realize how deeply he felt about it.
Dolores sipped her milk and reached out to ruffle her son’s hair. “It’s great that you want to grow tall, but eating properly is the only way to achieve it.”
“I will,” Samuel affirmed with determination.
Dolores stood up. “Mom, I’m heading to the office.”
“Okay,” Jessica replied. She wanted to say something more but held back when she saw Samuel. She didn’t want him to sense the truth.
He was young but perceptive.
She feared he might uncover the reality.
Dolores drove to LEO Corporation.
She grabbed the documents she hadn’t read the previous night, planning to review them in the office. As soon as she entered, her assistant, Theresa, approached her with a serious expression. “Mrs. William is waiting for you in the office.”
“What’s happened?” Dolores knew her assistant well.
Theresa wouldn’t appear so solemn unless something important occurred.
Theresa hesitated. “You’ll find out once you go in.”
Dolores gave her a quick glance before making her way to the main office.
When she reached the door, Dolores raised her hand and knocked. She only entered when she heard a voice say, “Come in.”
