Chapter 774: Won’t Agree

Book:The Selfish CEO Published:2024-6-2

Evening.
When Xia Feiqing arrived home, it was again after nine o’clock. Zhao Lanlan was in her bedroom when she heard the movement of the door opening, and thought that he would open the door and come in to see her like he always did, so she opened the door earlier. However, when she walked to the door, she only saw his back as he directly entered the study.
Zhao Lanlan leaned against the doorframe and silently watched him take the door with him. He, it seems like he is very tired today …
After a moment’s hesitation, she took a light step toward the study.
Knock on the door.
After three knocks, he didn’t answer. She then pushed right in.
Looking around, there was no one in the room, except for the sound of clattering water coming from the bathroom off to the side.
Zhao Lanlan just sat on the bed and waited for him.
Because of the lack of heating, the study is really cool at this moment. Especially the pajamas she wore were very thin, after sitting for a minute her body got cold, she couldn’t stay up any longer, so she simply lifted the covers and temporarily shrunk herself on the bed.
Ten minutes later, when Xia Feiqing came out of the bathroom wearing a bathrobe and wiping his hair with a dry towel, he saw her curled up on his bed. Seemingly afraid of the cold, she wrapped herself firmly.
Frozen slightly, Xia Feiqing’s eyes deepened, raising an eyebrow as he walked over and sat down by the edge of the bed, “I thought you were already asleep.”
“I woke up as soon as you came back.”
“Looking for me for something?” Xia Feiqing asked while rubbing his short standing hair. He knew her well, if it wasn’t for something, she wouldn’t have come to his room so late at night.
“Well …” she wanted to say that the heating was broken over here, so, should they sleep in a different room, or maybe … it wasn’t actually impossible for them to sleep in the same bed. After all, that bed was huge, and it wouldn’t be crowded at all with two people lying on it.
The words, however, stuck hard in his throat. In its place was, “You look like you have something on your mind. It seems like it’s been that way lately.”
Xia Feiqing was stunned.
What happened to Zhao Yuanyuan did make him feel bitter as hell right now. She’s getting more and more manic now, and today she smashed the nanny again. Nay to send her to rehab, she had to have her family sign off on it, and Lan Lan couldn’t know about it. So now all he could do was to force her to stay at home and completely isolate her from drugs.
“Is it really something serious?” Zhao Lanlan looked at his ever-tightening brow and couldn’t help but worry along with him, oblivious to the fact that her emotions were now completely tugged by him. She asked worriedly, “Last time you said there was something tricky at work, is it still unresolved?”
Her voice, soft and gentle, was especially comforting to hear in the evening. Like a feather, it swept away the sorrows that had accumulated in his heart in one go.
His face clouded over and he looked at her closely with a faint smile under his eyes, “You’re concerned about me?”
She froze, was asked by his heartbeat suddenly stopped, also snapped awake their own seems to be really concerned about too obvious. Lightly bit her lips, shook her head, “I did not, just … casually ask.”
“I see so …” Xia Feiqing deliberately elongated his voice, suddenly came close to her, “Then you came so late to drill in my bed Shang, it would not be to casually ask me a question, right?”
The two were very close. Having just showered, his eyes looked like a pair of glazes in the night. She could see herself clearly in his eyes, a little uneasy, a little blushing. But …
In the next instant, as if she had gone out of her way, she gathered enough courage to speak directly, “Do you want to sleep on my side?”
“Hmm?” Xia Feiqing looked like he didn’t understand her words, and then again, he looked like he did. The eyes burned brightly, flashing with a dark aura that made her heart tremble, and a few hints of playfulness that made her blush.
“I mean … you don’t have air conditioning in this room. Mom said you will not be able to sleep, so … I’m not so afraid of the cold, why don’t we just switch?” Seemingly afraid of his misunderstanding, she quickly explained, already a little incoherent, not knowing what to say.
It’s so humiliating!
Xia Feiqing understood what she meant, and his mood became incomparably better all of a sudden. If this wasn’t caring, he really didn’t know what it was.
“You’re not that afraid of the cold?” Xia Feiqing laughed at the way she curled up into a ball, “Not afraid of the cold and still curled yourself up like this?”
“This … is getting used to it. I’m really not afraid of the cold.” In order to make her words, sound more convincing, she intentionally lifted a corner of the quilt. The refreshingly cool wind poured in, and she held back from shivering.
Xia Feiqing quickly raised the quilt and held her firmly, “Don’t make a fuss, you’re a pregnant woman now, you can’t just catch a cold.”
Warm temperature attacked, her heart stirred, soft sentence, also came out, “Feiqing, here is so cold …”
The heart, as if struck by something, melted into water all at once.
“Idiot.” Murmuring, Xia Feiqing carried her straight out from under the covers. Without the covers, she curled directly into his arms.
Just holding her like this, Xia Feiqing had an indescribable sense of satisfaction in his heart. Carrying her to the bedroom, the warm air hit her, and she instantly felt comfortable.
“Alright, don’t go over there and freeze again, wearing so little.” Xia Feiqing placed her on the bed Shang.
“Uh-huh.” She silently moved a position inside the bed and glanced at him, her hand resting under the sheet tensing slightly. Xia Feiqing paused for a moment, and after all, he didn’t wait for her invitation and directly laid down beside her.
Under the sheet, two people, a hand’s length away.
Zhao Lanlan’s breathing, slightly tightened.
Xia Feiqing didn’t say anything either.
The whole atmosphere was so quiet that you could only hear each other breathing.
When she thought she was about to fall asleep like this, Xia Feiqing suddenly spun around and wrapped her into his arms. She was startled, and her eyes were wide open, and at first she ran into his deep pupils that were wrapped in fire.

Early morning. Fresh air and the sound of birdsong.
The two walked side by side on the cobblestone pathway. Inhaling the fresh air, Zhao Lanlan was in a good mood. Xia Feiqing silently held her hand. She didn’t say anything either, didn’t clasp it back, and didn’t refuse.
“Lanlan.” He called to her suddenly.
“Hmm?” She turned her face to look at him, the morning breeze ruffled her hair and he raised a hand to hook it behind her ear for her, “How have you been feeling in the time since you’ve been home?”
There was anticipation in his eyes, and Jo Langland was frank about it, “It’s reassuring, and I think it’s hilarious.”
“At least, it makes me feel less alone.”
Xia Feiqing tightened her hand, “Lanlan, the previous things … I owe you an apology.”
Zhao Lanlan didn’t speak, only lowered her head and lightly bit her lips. Xia Feiqing’s heart tightened, turned sideways, and wrapped his arms around her.
Lifting her lower jaw up to meet his eyes, “Don’t be quiet, talk to me properly.”
“I don’t know what to talk about.” Zhao Lanlan looked at him, “I feel so messed up when we … are like this now …”
“Where is the mess?” Xia Feiqing asked tentatively, “You don’t like the way we’re getting along now?”
“…” If she didn’t like it, how could she not reject it?
Xia Feiqing naturally understood her silence.
“Lanlan, let’s get married!” He held her hand and solemnly said.
Zhao Lanlan raised her eyes to look at him, his eyes were solemn and serious, “Let me make it up to you and to the child from now on. This time, believe me, I just want to guard you well.”
She listened, her heart beating extremely fast. His seriousness made her throb even more.
“I’m not sure …” she shook her head, “My parents … wouldn’t approve… …”
Xia Feiqing knew that it was not simple to let her let go of the past. He hugged her tightly, “I know it’s impossible to let you let go of the past, so let’s take it slow. However, you have to promise me …”
