Xia Feiqing hung his head and stared at her lips, “Where’s the thank you gift?”
Zhao Lanlan only felt the heat on her lips, remembering that Mrs. Xia was watching them on the side, embarrassed. With her free hand, she pushed him, “You hurry up, don’t you have to go to work?”
Xia Feiqing knew she was thin-skinned and didn’t tease her. Only turning to ask Mrs. Xia, “Where are the grandparents, when will they probably arrive?”
“Arrived.” Xia father’s voice came in from the doorway. Immediately followed by the voices of the old master and the old lady, “Where’s Lan Lan?”
“Grandparents, I’m here.” Zhao Lanlan carefully stood up to greet them. Xia Feiqing held her hand for her.
The old lady and the old man looked at each other with relief at the sight.
“You kid, count yourself smart. Still know what methods to use to keep people behind.” The old man flirted with his grandson.
The old lady walked over to Zhao Lanlan and pulled her, “You, hurry up and sit down. I’ve heard that it’s 2 months old too, so it was there the last time you visited us, right?”
“Uh, yeah.”
“You’re really good at hiding it. This old man really doesn’t know what’s important either, and he even let you go down to the ground to plant vegetables.” The old lady was still scared when she remembered that situation.
The old man smiled and took a seat in the main seat, “There’s nothing to be gained by young people moving around.”
Xia Feiqing sat close to Zhao Lanlan’s other side, “She’s still been hiding it from me, if it wasn’t for the fact that I followed her over when she went to the hospital yesterday, I wouldn’t have known that she had a child.”
He turned his head to look at her and deliberately asked in front of so many elders, “Now that the child is with you and you can’t run away, when do you plan to marry me?”
Zhao Lanlan’s jaw dropped.
How come this person can’t keep his words? Before, he said he would give her time to think it over, but now in front of his grandparents, he’s actually going too far.
As expected, his words immediately elicited a succession of responses from the elders.
“Let’s see, you take a leave of absence this afternoon, and all of us will follow you to the Civil Affairs Bureau and watch you bring back the marriage license, so that it won’t be a long night.” The one who spoke was the old man, who had always been a man of the wind and fire, saying one thing but not another.
Zhao Lanlan was once again shocked.
The old lady held her uninjected hand and said in a serious tone, “You shouldn’t blame the old man for being impatient. Feiqing, this child, he was a bit impulsive in the past, but he’ll be a good father.”
Xia Feiqing was silent on the sidelines.
Mrs. Xia poured tea out, listening to them chatting about this topic, she also gave her son as a lobbyist, “It’s good to be married, we can be relieved to be elders when we get married. You do not know, you are not in this period of time, Feiqing is simply like a lost soul, all day and night drinking, his father is going to annoy him to death.”
Zhao Lanlan turned her face to look at him. She remembered that in the past, he wasn’t a drinker, and occasionally there were some social functions that he couldn’t put off, and he was annoyed with a few sips.
She’s touched him a couple times in bars since the divorce, though.
Just …
Does it really matter to her that he loves to drink?
Xia Feiqing still did not speak, nor did he want to refute Mrs. Xia’s intention. Mrs. Xia was still continuing, “Several times when he was drunk, he was calling your name, and every day he was in a terrible mood, making me and his father worry, and could only open up for him to find a new girlfriend. Now it’s good that you’re back, look at this mood of his, immediately different from before.”
Jo Langland lost heart rate.
Subconsciously looking at him again, he still didn’t blink, meeting her searching eyes.
Instead, she was the first to look away, not daring to meet his.
Breathing much tighter all of a sudden, Xia Feiqing finally opened her mouth, “Okay, okay, we’ll open up about the marriage. Go back and re-collect the license, then talk to all of you.”
The elders haha’d and a few people chatted away again.
Zhao Lanlan sat there, appearing to listen to their conversation attentively, but her heart was in turmoil. The two words that Mrs. Xia said were still echoing in her mind.
Does he, himself, really have influence over him?
Not a moment later, Xia Feiqing looked at the time, it really wasn’t that long before it was time to go to work. He pressed against her ear and spoke, “It’s time to go to work, I have to leave first.”
“Uh-huh.”
“Talking to the elders, you can recruit, can’t you?”
“No problem.”
Xia Feiqing moved over and nibbled on her ear, “If you get bored of listening, pretend to be asleep.”
His voice was soft, giving her tips. The heat brushed against her earlobe and burned a little. She also asked in a serious whisper, “Wouldn’t it be rude if I fell asleep?”
“You’re in a special situation, they don’t care. Can’t wait for you to get more sleep.”
“Really?”
“Sure.”
The two talked in a thin voice, oblivious to how close they felt to each other at the moment, not to mention noticing the pleased looks of the elders on the sidelines.
“What time do you want to go to Yuan Yuan this afternoon?” Xia Feiqing asked again.
“Let’s wait for the shot, I’m only going to check on her and then I’ll leave.”
“Okay, I know.” Xia Feiqing nodded, “Don’t squeeze the bus, you’re pregnant now. Take a cab and go over. I’ll send you the address of her work on your cell phone later.”
“Uh-huh.” She nodded nicely.
“Then I’m really leaving.” Xia Feiqing looked at her with slightly deeper eyes.
She nodded again, and without waiting for her to say anything, he suddenly bent his head and kissed her on the cheek. It was a good thing the elders were talking about themselves and he moved so quickly that no one noticed.
By the time Zhao Lanlan came back to her senses, he had already gladly taken his jacket and left. When she looked up, she could only see the back that disappeared in the doorway.
She lifted a hand to her cheek, and it was a moment before she drew her eyes back at the sound of the door rumbling.
A few elders were still chatting away, saying many, many things about their children and envisioning various futures. Zhao Lanlan listened, moved by the kind of blueprints they had constructed for their own children.
She had to admit that she was really enjoying the hot and heavy atmosphere, it was so much better than the hard life she had been living alone.
Even she’s like this, let alone a child?
She … really can’t let her kids go along for the ride, can she?
As she rambled on, her eyelids grew heavy and she did fall asleep. For those ten minutes or so, she had a dream that included her, him, and the baby …
Surprisingly beautiful.
It wasn’t until later, when the doctor pulled the needle out of her, that she woke up. The dream that fell apart left her lingering and feeling lost.
After the injection, she put on her jacket and came out of Xia’s house.
Took a cab to where Jo Yuanyuan works and called her, Jo Yuanyuan came out soon after.
“Sis.”
Jo called out to her from behind.
Zhao Lanlan turned around and saw Zhao Yuanyuan coming out of the unit in her formal attire. Used to her usual flamboyant appearance, now such a serious look, Zhao Lanlan at first glance is really a bit uncomfortable.
“This outfit looks pretty good on you.”
“What’s so pretty about it?” Zhao Yuanyuan didn’t feel the same way, and made a move to rip open the two buttons on her shirt collar, “The buttons can’t even be undone, it’s smothering me to death!”
