“Thinking about something?” The other man asked with a smile as he followed her from the car and saw her lost in thought again.
Looking back, he shook his head a little apologetically, “It’s nothing.”
“It looks like you have something on your mind, you’ve been looking at your cell phone today, waiting for someone to call?”
“You misunderstand.” She hurried to explain. How could she wait for a call? It should be because she was worried that Xia Feiqing wouldn’t know when to come and disturb her with a call, right?” I … am sorry, did I spoil your fun today?”
“Of course not. I feel happy.”
“That’s good.” Zhao Lanlan was slightly more relieved, “It’s getting late, so drive carefully.”
“So … tomorrow, I’ll pick you up for work?” The other party suddenly proposed.
Zhao Lanlan was slightly surprised, afraid of troubling him, so she waved her hand and said, “There’s no need to bother, it’s not like it’s on the way.”
“No trouble, I happen to be going to your newspaper office to look for LuLu.” The other made an excuse.
Zhao Lanlan naturally had no way to refuse and nodded, “Good then. See you tomorrow then!”
The two said their goodbyes and watched the car disappear into the neighborhood before Zhao Lanlan averted her eyes. The smile on her face, gradually converged, and she let out a somewhat tired breath. Obviously, the whole day today was a good talk, but …
At the moment, standing in the night, my heart felt empty, like nothing could fill it.
Taking a deep breath, he decided not to think about it any more and prepared to walk back.
Only to hear “beep-beep-beep” two car beeps, suddenly sounded. She turned around in surprise, and saw an all-too-familiar car parked in the night. The window was lowered, and the figure on the driver’s seat stunned her.
Streetlights blur.
With starlight.
The three-dimensional profile was hidden in the darkness, not very clear. Yet, she was able to recognize him at once.
And …
It was obvious that he was in a particularly bad mood. Those eyes, with the coolness of the moon, stared fixedly at her, as if they were going to freeze her.
“Why are you here?” She was the first to speak. She had just said goodbye to the man, and was so serious that she hadn’t even realized he was hidden here.
“Come here!” Xia Feiqing didn’t reply, just spat out two simple words, almost in a commanding tone.
Zhao Lanlan didn’t move.
Inside his chest, that heart, was ‘thumping-‘ beating. Each time, it was so fast, so fast that she didn’t dare to approach him at all.
He frowned impatiently and tapped the steering wheel.
The sound of a car honking was especially jarring in the quiet of the night.
“Hush!” Zhao Lanlan was anxious and took a few steps over, “Don’t you press it, turn around and wake up the whole neighborhood.”
She said, already bending over and moving his hands away from the steering wheel.
Half of her body into the carriage, long hair swept down, the wind raised, brushing Xia Feiqing’s cheeks, as if on the lake of his heart, one by one, swirling circles of ripples.
He just stared at her side face, her snow-white skin drenched in a bewildering luster under the moonlight, making it almost impossible for him to move his eyes. Seemingly sensing too much burning eyes, Zhao Lanlan snapped out of it and turned her head sideways, her eyes meeting his. All of a sudden it was like being sucked into a vortex, causing her to shake her head.
Realizing how close and ambiguous they were to each other at the moment, her heart tightened and she poked her body out almost immediately. The movement was so great that her head hit the roof of the car with a ‘thud’. It hurt so much that she sucked in her breath and woefully covered the top of her head and rubbed it.
Xia Feiqing’s brows tightened as she pushed the door open and came out. She was hit on the head with stars and her eyes were red.
“Take a chance. Show me.” Xia Feiqing was originally full of fire, just now he didn’t ignore the image of her and that man making love to each other. But now, looking at her like this, his heart softened again. His hand reached over, instead of hers, and touched the top of his head.
A lump had bulged out of the top of his head.
“Don’t push, it hurts!” She tried to grab away from him, and he grunted out in dismay, “Serves you right!”
It’s so unsympathetic!
Zhao Lanlan was a bit angry, “If you hadn’t honked your horn, I wouldn’t have run into it.”
Negatively, she removed his hand and stood up straight, scowling, “Go away, it’s getting late, I’m going up.”
Saying that, she turned around, looking like she really wanted to leave. Xia Feiqing remembered her and that man, his face sank, and he reached out and pulled her in. She struggled slightly, and with one force, he rolled her directly into his arms. His chest was sturdy and strong, and leaning so close, he could hear his heartbeat drumming one by one.
“What are you … doing?” She pushed him a little uncomfortably.
“You also know that it’s getting late, why did you not come back until now?” Xia Feiqing hooped her waist, his eyes fixed on her, almost in an accusatory tone.
“Don’t you know why? I’m on a date.” She bit her lip, “Have you ever seen a date get back early?”
Dating!
Xia Feiqing’s eyebrows throbbed, “You really want to marry him?”
“He’s a really nice guy.” That statement, it wasn’t a gamble. She was telling the truth. She was content to not care about the child in her womb.
“Nice guy? Do you know who he is? Yu Zhensheng – he’s in a second marriage and has a child a few years old!”
“You check him out?” She was a little angry, it was disrespectful to her friend.
“What’s wrong with me checking him out? Shouldn’t you know exactly what kind of background he has since you’re marrying her? I’m telling you, don’t let him fool you, he’s already a father!”
“I know, he told me all about it. I’ve seen pictures of his son, and he’s adorable.”
“You don’t care?” Xia Feiqing narrowed his eyes, danger surging in his deep eyes, “Zhao Lanlan, are you out of your mind? You’re so young that you’re actually willing to marry over and be a stepmother to someone else? Are you really that short of men?”
“Why can’t I be a stepmother to someone else? Don’t you forget, I’m also a second wife! I’m also a divorced woman who was abandoned by you!” Bringing up the past, she always still had some nagging feelings, and her usual soft voice followed suit and became cold and hard, “If you come here to fight with me over this matter, I’m sorry, I don’t have the energy. I have to work tomorrow, you go!”
She said, breaking his large hands around her waist, giving him a resigned look and turning away.
She couldn’t figure out how he could get engaged and married to another woman and she became short of a man when she went on a blind date with someone else! Besides, hadn’t he already disappeared from her life? Why should he show up again now and mess up her nice peaceful heart again?
As she thought this, she couldn’t help but increase the pace of her feet. Behind her, came the sound of heavier footsteps. When she reached the hallway, her wrist was forcefully clasped. With a backward turn, her entire body was crushed against the wall. He pounced over like a swift lion, and in the dark space, his eyes appeared unusually crystalline, transmitting a heart-stopping beastly dark aura.
Breathing, also followed by aggravation, the two people’s intertwined together, especially ambiguous.
She just felt like a heart was about to jump out of her chest, wanting to say something to break this ambiguous atmosphere, but the dryness of her throat and lips prevented her from saying a single word.
“You want to get married, don’t you?” It was he who spoke first.
She gasped and licked her pink lips before returning to him, “Yes.”
“Good, then marry me!” Firm, strong, and with a forcefulness that was unique to him.
Her jaw dropped and she felt deeply that she was hallucinating at the moment.
“What did you … say?”
“Don’t you just want to get married? I’ll marry you! Bring your account book with you, tomorrow we’ll go to the Civil Affairs Bureau to remarry!” His words, word for word, were clear, and in turn, Zhao Lanlan was instantly stumped.
