I would pretend that today’s events had never happened.
That was all Zoe could hear, and she stared at Alice, who was bound hand and foot, sitting against the wall, although she looked a mess at the moment. However, her eyes were still steady, calm and collected, and the difference was instantly noticeable when compared to herself.
Clearly, she was the lady of the family, but right now her aura was almost dominated by her.
Zoe felt uncomfortable, she was inferior to Alice in every way. She bit her lower lip hard, a hint of resentment in her eyes.
-Untie you?
Alice’s hands were sweating from nervousness and she was afraid to face a person with a mental abnormality. What if the person seemed normal now, but suddenly hurt herself?
But Zoe’s condition shouldn’t be that serious yet, she could still communicate with her and if Alice slowly guided her, she wouldn’t do anything today.
-Okay,” Alice nodded, “I can pretend that nothing happened.
-How is that possible? How can you act like nothing happened when I’ve tied you up here? You’re lying to me, aren’t you? When we get out of here, you’ll call Kennedy right away and then tell my grandfather.
-No,” Alice spoke quickly and firmly, “I’m a man of my word, I’ll do what I say I’ll do, and if I say I’ll do as if it never happened, I won’t speak of today’s events again.
-I thought you were going to believe that? -Zoe scoffed, “Actually you’re telling me that to save yourself, but unfortunately I’m not stupid!
-Exactly,” Alice pursed her lips and nodded, “I tried to save myself, but I was also saving you.
-What did you say?
-Did I say I was wrong? If something happens to me, do you think you’ll get away with it? -Alice shook her head, “There’s no escape, I’m missing here, you’re the biggest suspect, by the time the Carlos family gets involved with your people, you’ll be found out sooner or later. But if you let me go now and we leave together, if I am fine, naturally you will be fine and no one will suspect you. After a few days, when your grandfather has subsided, you can naturally go back to being your Espinar miss, so why do you have to go down this road?
As much as Zoe hated her, she had to admit that Alice was right and that if anything happened to her, she wouldn’t be able to escape herself.
But could she be trusted?
Could Alice really pretend that nothing had happened?
-You’re not a saint, sure you make mistakes, but as long as you correct them now in time, you’ll still have a chance. Zoe, even though I didn’t like you since we met, even more so when you drugged Kennedy, I think you have a problem with your thoughts, but that doesn’t mean you can’t change, going back to being Miss Espinar, isn’t that good?
Zoe was so moved by what she said that her eyes started to sparkle.
Alice took the opportunity and turned sideways.
-I’ve been unconscious before, so I don’t know exactly how long it’s been, so, hurry up, it might be a little later and they might find their way here.
The words were like a sharp blow to Zoe’s skull and she reacted with a jolt.
-What do you mean, they might get here?
-That’s for sure, and if I don’t come back, they might even call the police, so we’d better get out of here together before they come, and when they do, I’ll explain it for you.
Zoe hesitated and Alice was in no hurry, she felt calmly and waited for her.
After a while, Zoe walked towards her with slow steps and then crouched down beside her, fumbling with her fingers at the ropes that bound her hands and feet.
Watching the scene, Alice only felt her heart still pounding and hoped that everything would be all right.
-Could you help me explain for real? -Zoe asked as she put her hands on the ropes and looked at her uncertainly.
Alice pursed her lips and met her eyes.
-I would never lie to you.
Alice’s eyes were clean and with sincerity, like a spring of unadulterated water, without a trace of malice. At such a look, Zoe’s lips trembled, -You, don’t you hate me? I have done so much…
At her words, Alice gave her a good-natured smile.
-Even though you kidnapped me, when I woke up, you only tied my hands and feet and did not hurt me.
This was enough to show that Zoe still had a conscience in her heart, and since she still had it, she would push it, for both their sakes at this point.
-So, I guess you’re not evil by nature.
These words were a blessing to Zoe at that moment, and her eyes snapped open, tears pooled in them but did not fall.
Suddenly, it was clear that there was a difference between her and Alice.
After a long moment of silence, Zoe lowered her eyes and silently went to untie the rope from Alice’s hand, her movements were swift.
Soon the ropes were untied from Alice’s body and she didn’t have time to stretch her legs and arms before she stood up clutching the wall.
Zoe stood still and looked at her trembling, -Now shall we go?
At these words, Alice nodded.
-Good.
Alice believed this girl had a conscience, but she had to be careful for love’s sake.
Zoe looked at her suspiciously.
-Why don’t you leave?
Alice gripped the wall and said slowly, “My legs are a little numb.
She was telling the truth, her legs were indeed numb, from being tied up on the floor, and so were her hands.
Seeing her blush, Zoe didn’t suspect anything, but she didn’t offer to leave either.
It was some time before she asked.
-Are your legs okay?
Alice saw that Zoe was still in a stable mood and nodded.
-Come on then, remember you promised to explain yourself for me, and from now on we’ll never see each other.
-Okay.
The two walked out together, opening the door to the room. Alice held her breath and slowly moved forward, having noticed on her way out that Zoe had no sharp objects in her hands and that she would be safe if she got out and separated from this woman.
Only she had arranged everything herself, but she hadn’t counted on that change of heart that followed.
When the two reached the entrance to the staircase, Alice descended only to suddenly hear a familiar male voice.
-Quickly, the surveillance video is found, it’s upstairs.
Alice’s pupils flinched and she subconsciously quickened her pace, though she was still a step behind.
Zoe pushed her with hasty and annoyed force.
-You lied to me!
