It was getting colder and colder and when Alice came out of the hospital after her check-up, she was shivering in the cold wind.
Rachel took off her scarf and put it on Alice.
Alice hurried to take it off her, -No, Auntie, it’s too cold, you’ll get cold if you give me the scarf.
Rachel gave her a helpless look and couldn’t help but reprimand her, -You know you’re going to be cold too, why didn’t you wear more when you were in Yemen? You know you’re pregnant and you’re still so careless.
When she scolded her, Alice didn’t dare to say a word of resistance and remained silent.
As Rachel spoke a ring of hot air came out of her mouth and she looked at the buildings around her, -It’s almost Christmas and I think I’ll spend it with you here this year.
At her words Alice froze and unconsciously followed her gaze.
So fast? She couldn’t believe she was about to celebrate Christmas?
She ran her hand gently over her belly, which would be exactly three months old when the holiday arrived.
Alice thought of her son, Jack, who was away in her hometown.
He and she hadn’t seen each other in a long time too.
And since she had moved in with Kennedy, she hadn’t been able to contact this little guy much, so she wondered how the little guy was doing and if he missed her.
-Well, don’t stay here, get ready to come back.
-Okay.
The two walked forward arm in arm, and just as they reached the edge of the road, a car that looked neither like a cab nor a family of private cars pulled up in front of them.
Soon, the car door opened and several men gathered around.
They were four or five men in black suits and sunglasses, and looking mafia-like, this made Alice frown and look at them impassively.
Rachel looked askance at the men and sneered, -Is something wrong with you?
Between them, one of whom looked like the leader, they spoke: -Our boss wants to see you.
-Is that so? Who is your boss? Why do we have to see him? Just because he wants to see us?
-Miss Raquel, please don’t put us in a difficult situation, the boss just wants to invite you two to be his guests.
-Then go back and tell any host you have in your house who is afraid to show his true face that we don’t want him.
After saying that, Rachel took Alice’s hand and prepared to leave.
The men saw this and with frowns instantly stepped forward to surround the two again, stopping them both in their tracks. -Miss Raquel….
Rachel scowled and barked sternly, “Out of my way!
Several men could only recoil helplessly to one side when they saw her like this.
Only then did Rachel push Alice away, as several men watched the two leave in the background, bowing together and talking about something.
After a short walk, Rachel’s pace slowed, -Really gross, you annoy them-.
Alice took her hand and it was a leisurely stroll.
It was already obvious that the group had just talked about their boss; they wanted to ask Rachel to come back, but they were too afraid to get rough with her and so they just backed off when she yelled at them.
Who else but Jorge?
Thinking about this, Alice couldn’t help but say aloud, -Maybe, Señor Jorge really wants to see you.
Hearing these words, Rachel’s steps faltered and she turned her head to look at Alice.
Her eyes were deep and haunting, they looked a little intimidating and Alice’s scalp tingled at her gaze. -What’s wrong?
-What does it matter to me that you want to see me? The words were clear then, and if it wasn’t for you and Kennedy this time, I wouldn’t even be here.
Alice felt a little guilty.
-I’m sorry, Aunt, it’s my fault I made you come all this way.
-Nothing,” Raquel reached up and cupped her face. It’s almost noon, why don’t you call Kennedy and let him eat at the company today and we’ll go out to lunch together, I know a place I’m missing and I don’t know if it’s still open.
Alice said yes, then texted Kennedy that she was out to lunch with Raquel.
After texting, Raquel saw her put her phone away and put her in a car she had stopped earlier, telling the driver the address.
-Actually, since you’re with him now, you don’t have to go to work anymore.
Hearing that, Alice was a little stunned.
-If I don’t go, will they think I’m one of those lazy, vain women?
-Do you think you are?
-No.” Alice shook her head.
-Then what else is there to say? You’re not that kind of person, and Kennedy wouldn’t look at you like that. If you weren’t pregnant, you could go to work as long as you wanted, but look at you now, what did the doctor say at today’s checkup?
Thinking about the doctor’s words, Alice pursed her lips without speaking.
Her health seemed to have deteriorated a lot since she became pregnant with her second child.
No, maybe it was after the Kennedy plane crash. Because of that period of not eating or sleeping well, the fever from going out in the rain, and all the work afterwards, when she felt physically exhausted and hardly able to go on.
But she didn’t expect to have a miscarriage after coming here and having sex with Kennedy.
She thought about Jack, who went through so much when she was pregnant with him and in great health, and now….
Thinking about it, Alice sighed heavily.
-I know, I’ll figure something out.
The two soon arrived at a restaurant and Rachel stopped on her way to the door.
-Is that what you were talking about before?
Raquel looked at the decor in front of her and the people inside, the sparkle in her eyes slowly fading.
-No.
Things had changed and it was normal to no longer exist that restaurant.
Noticing that she was quite depressed, Alice said, “Why don’t you…?
-Let’s have a drink here.
-Okay.
Unexpectedly, the restaurant was quite good and, after eating, Alice felt she had to go to the bathroom and sighed helplessly, -Aunt, I’m going to the bathroom.
One of the most annoying things about being pregnant was that she always wanted to go to the bathroom.
Alice left her phone and purse on the table and went to the bathroom. As she washed her hands and came out of the bathroom, she ran into a man who stopped in front of her and looked unpleasant.
Alice’s expression changed and her brain worked quickly, and she immediately spoke, -Do you want….
Unfortunately, before she could finish her sentence, she received a sharp blow to the back of her head, stopping all words that followed, and when she tried to say anything else, a wave of darkness came over her eyes.
Immediately afterwards, Alice lost consciousness.
