At the hotel
Alice spent a serious hour washing her hair and showering, putting on clean clothes and primping.
She was afraid her makeup would smudge again, so this time she didn’t even put on makeup.
But even if she wanted to put on makeup now, she couldn’t do it.
She hadn’t had time to put on her makeup because she had been in a hurry when she left the house.
Megan had told her then that she had 20 minutes to get ready, but when she pulled out her suitcase, she only had time to put in a few clothes and the rest of the time?
she stood at the door waiting for the driver.
It was as if a curse had been put on her.
Alice looked at herself in the mirror and reached over to stroke her face gently.
Then she changed her motion and pinched her face with her thumb and forefinger.
Alice cried out in pain as she saw a large red spot on her face in the mirror.
It hurt so much.
It was real.
It wasn’t fake.
Even though the wound made her squeal in pain, Alice couldn’t help but smile as she looked at herself in the mirror.
Zain sent her a message telling her to sleep for a few hours. He also said he had a car ready for the afternoon and would take her to see Kennedy then.
Alice thought about the arrangement and it seemed appropriate, so she replied with a message and went to rest.
And now she was really tired, she had been in high spirits all day, but because of her pregnancy, the baby in her belly seemed to keep protesting and demanding rest.
Alice lay down and fell asleep, only waking up in the afternoon when Megan knocked on her door.
-Alice, we’ll be leaving in about ten minutes or so.
-Okay.
Alice got out of bed, quickly went to the bathroom, washed her face, put on something travel-friendly and followed Megan out the door before she had a chance to gather her hair.
Zain froze for a moment at the sight of Alice.
For Alice rarely wore her hair down, even if casually, she wore it tied back.
But now, she wore a head of soft hair. The hair that hung down, covering half her face, made her look even thinner.
But more importantly, Alice now looked especially like Zain’s mother when she was young.
Seeing Alice like this, Zain was instantly immersed in memories.
It wasn’t until Alice approached him and called him like a brother that Zain came back to reality.
Remembering his mother’s untimely death, Zain was in a very bad mood and responded in a very uninterested way.
After getting into the car, Alice could not help her doubts.
-Where are we going now?
She had looked at the time on the way out and it was late.
Megan sat in the passenger seat and replied, -You’ll know when we get there.
Alice always felt that these two people were hiding something from her.
But she was about to meet Kennedy and Alice felt that all these doubts would be resolved when she met him.
When the car had been driving for a while, Zain, who was sitting next to her, suddenly asked her.
-I have something to tell you.
-What is it?
Zain did not turn around, he kept his eyes looking out of the car window but did not speak immediately.
A moment passed before Zain continued.
-Let’s make a hypothesis, what would you do if you met Kennedy, but he didn’t know you anymore?
What’s that supposed to mean? Why Kennedy didn’t know Alice?
-Brother, I don’t understand you, why won’t she know me? How can Kennedy not know me?
Zain looked back at him.
-It’s just a hypothesis.
Alice was a little pale and did not answer him, she seemed not to be able to stand the question.
This Alice made Zain worry and said in a serious tone, “It’s just a hypothesis, if you can’t even accept this, what will you do if it really happens?
-No!
Alice shook her head vigorously, trying to argue in Kennedy’s favor.
-It’s impossible, the hypothetical can’t be true, how could Kennedy not know me? Brother, don’t be ridiculous.
Having said that, she turned her head the other way angrily and stopped talking to Zain.
Zain didn’t budge, -What if I’m not kidding?
Suddenly, Alice turned to Zain and looked at him in surprise.
Megan, sitting in the passenger seat, could clearly feel the uneasiness in the air, but at that moment she didn’t know what to say to lighten the mood.
After all, Zain was telling the truth.
And they were about to witness the truth of this matter, and all the words now seemed to pale in comparison.
-I’m not joking with you, the things I just said are true.
Zain’s words tore through the cruel night.
Megan could almost smell a whiff of sadness in the air and through the rear view mirror she saw Alice sitting expressionless, but with tears in her eyes.
Alice knew Zain wasn’t going to lie to her, Alice had had a special feeling ever since she started guessing things, but she never thought it would be true.
Alice’s eyes were full of tears as she looked at Zain, she said with her aggravated tone, -So this is what you’ve been hiding from me?
Zain didn’t say another word as Megan, in front of him, explained.
-Miss Alice, we didn’t want to hide this from you, but we also found the news strange, that’s why we wanted you to come and confirm it yourself, and when you meet Mr. Kennedy, you will know the truth of the matter.
-And where are we going now? -Alice wasn’t sure how long it would take her to accept it, but her brain had taken the initiative to raise the question for her.
Megan looked at the navigation and sighed, -We’ll be there soon.
A few minutes later, the car pulled up in front of a building. Alice had seen many of these buildings when she lived abroad five years ago, so she recognized them at a glance.
-This is…
-This is the company of the world-famous Charles family in Country A -Megan took in her words and slowly looked at Alice -This is where our intelligence officer met with Mr. Kennedy. As for why he was here, I did some research.
Megan opened her briefcase, took out a document and handed it to Alice.
Alice took the document but didn’t open it.
-Actually, at first we didn’t know what Mr. Kennedy was here for, but then we learned that Mr. Kennedy’s aunt, Raquel Sanchez, was actually Raquel Carlos, the youngest daughter of the Carlos family, and that her sister, Mr. Kennedy’s mother Rosa Sanchez, formerly Rosa Carlos, were the famous twin daughters of the Carlos family, but then they left the Carlos family for the North City, for reasons unknown to us.
