With a broad smile on his face, Cristofer complimented, “Great. Yohan, you just put what you have learned into practice. You know how to save the cost. Buddy, you did a great job.”
Estelle also noticed that the two girls got themselves dirty when eating, but she couldn’t do anything about it since she was sitting in the passenger’s seat. So she could only remind them, “Be careful not to stain the car. It’ll be a big trouble to clean the car’s interior.”
Eating happily, Yvonne and Christina lifted their hands obediently so they wouldn’t muck up their clothes and the seats.
“It doesn’t matter. I can drive another car tomorrow.” Cristofer was a typical dad who spoiled his daughters. He could bear a little more trouble as long as he made his daughters happy.
“Cristofer Hans!” Estelle snapped, knowing that Cristofer treated Yohan normally, but there was no limit to how much he could spoil the two girls. So Estelle was worried about that.
“Okay. I’ve got it. You’re the boss.”
Hearing Cristofer’s words, Estelle rolled her eyes and turned around to look out of the window.
But Cristofer was still in a good mood even if Estelle scolded him because this was what he had been dreaming of. To make this dream more fascinating, Yvonne reached out her little hand to give Estelle and him the snacks. “Mom, Dad, this is delicious. Why don’t you have a taste of it?”
Instantly, a powerful and delicious smell of the dried fruit in Yvonne’s hand pervaded the front part of the car, and Estelle and Cristofer couldn’t ruthlessly refuse her, so both of them turned their heads to have a piece of fruit.
Since Cristofer was driving, he still needed to focus on the streets and only slightly tilted his head. At the same time, Yvonne’s hand shivered when she tried to put the fruit in his mouth. And then, she directly rubbed the glazed sugar and the grease of chips on his face.
Estelle asked Yohan to take a tissue to wipe his face, but she gave up the thought as she realized the glazed sugar got stuck, and he had to wash his face carefully to make it clean.
“No, the sugar won’t come off your face. Just wait for a while and wash it after we get home. No one at home will laugh at you anyway.” Estelle said to Yohan. And then she started smirking, feeling much better at the sight of Cristofer’s funny face.
Cristofer noticed his own face in the rear-view mirror and blushed. He cleared his throat and softly smiled, “It’s okay. I can handle a little smudge from my daughter.”
At that moment, he looked quite funny. The sugar and grease on his face looked like five cat whiskers, which was quite different from his clean suit.
Estelle couldn’t help but laugh, “You look like a big cat with two kittens.”
When they arrived home, they saw Luke trimming the bushes in front of the house. He was surprised to see Cristofer and asked, “Mr. Hans, what happened to you? Did you fall?”
Then Mrs. Moorsum noticed Yvonne and Christina’s stained faces and chuckled, “Did you make a mess on your father’s face? How mischievous! Let’s go inside and clean up.”
Estelle pulled Cristofer and said, “Come on, you should clean your face too.”
Cristofer was a neat freak and had to go home to shower and change his clothes after working for a whole night, so driving home with a dirty face was definitely miserable for him.
Estelle involuntarily sighed when thinking about his past and said emotionally, “You’ve changed a lot.”
“Don’t worry, I’m perfectly fine,” Cristofer replied with a happy shrug as Estelle showed concern for him. He casually continued with a dirty face, “I used to eat your leftovers. I guess my cleanliness obsession fades away when I’m with my family.”
“Mr. Hans, I had almost forgotten about that until you brought it up. It feels like it happened ages ago,” Luke sighed and added, “Back then, you always invited Estelle over to do homework, and you’d have the cook prepare all sorts of dishes and snacks for her. Those were the good old days.” He then smiled, looking from Cristofer to Estelle. “Luckily, you two can still have meals together.”
Estelle wanted to mention that she hadn’t completely reconciled with Cristofer yet, but she didn’t want to hurt Luke’s feelings. So, she changed the topic, saying, “Looking back, I realize I had quite a temper back then. When I think about the silly things I did, I feel so embarrassed, I wish I could go back in time and fix those awkward moments.”
Luke quickly reassured her, “That’s not true! You were adorable. Even though I’m old, I remember many things vividly. Mr. Hans’ parents always looked forward to the weekends because he would bring you here for meals.”
Cristofer and Estelle had spent their youth in love. Once they started dating, they frequently visited each other’s homes, and both sets of parents approved of their relationship.
Thinking of Cristofer’s parents, Estelle smiled nostalgically and said, “Yes, I remember that well. His mom and dad were both warm and welcoming. When it was time for me to leave, they’d insist I take some food home.”
Estelle made a good impression on Cristofer’s parents. The first time they met this beautiful girl, Cristofer’s parents decided that she could be Cristofer’s wife in the future. Therefore, they were happier to see her at home than to see Cristofer.
“Yeah, they were so nice to you that I started suspecting whether I was their son,” Cristofer said to Estelle jokingly, “If I didn’t bring you home one weekend, they would even question me whether I quarreled with you and force me to apologize to you. If I didn’t apologize to you, they said they didn’t want me to be their son anymore.” Then he thought of one interesting fact. “Actually, my obsession for cleanliness became less serious because of Estelle.”
Hearing that, Estelle blinked and asked in confusion, “What does it have to do with me?”
With a tender smile, Cristofer looked into her eyes and replied, “Do you remember what would happen most often at the table during those years?”
Cristofer’s parents treated Estelle like their daughter, so they would tell the cook to make all kinds of delicious dishes for her once she came to the house back then. Judging by the variability of the tasty food, Estelle could tell that they put a lot of effort into the meal.
Therefore, she would praise how delicious the food tasted using all the words she knew. Surprisingly, Cristofer’s mother became more enthusiastic and put much more food on her plate. Hence, there would be a mountain of food on her plate during every meal. Estelle would respond with the brightest smile but secretly felt worried that she would waste the food and upset Cristofer’s parents if she couldn’t eat it all.
