Eva finally found a tissue and began to clean her hands, saying, “The box is almost as large as the plastic bag, so it was likely meant for the candies. They probably fell out one by one because someone didn’t secure them properly.”
Upon hearing Eva’s explanation, Estelle compared the size of the jewelry box to the plastic bag and had to admit that Eva was correct. However, emotionally, she couldn’t accept it. Even though she knew Cristofer had done similar things in the past, she stopped Eva with a serious tone, saying, “That’s enough, Eva.”
Eva awkwardly stuck out her tongue and popped another candy into her mouth.
Thinking Estelle was feeling shy, Wallace chuckled and said, “You don’t have to be shy. I’ve heard some things about you and Mr. Hans. Although I was abroad at the time, I heard bits and pieces from others. I never expected Mr. Hans to be so considerate.”
Feeling somewhat at a loss, Estelle could only offer a polite smile. “Thank you. But I find it hard to explain my feelings to others. That’s life, isn’t it? No one can really understand you.”
“Are you still thinking about what that woman said in the news?” Wallace tried to comfort her. “Don’t dwell on it. People like me will forget gossip like that quickly. I can’t even recall her name.”
Eva, eager to defend Cristofer, added, “Yes, Mr. Hans isn’t the child’s father. It was just false accusations.”
Estelle brushed it off, saying, “It’s all in the past. I’m fine.”
Wallace sensed that Estelle didn’t want to discuss it further, so she changed the topic. “A model of mine recently left her career to become a housewife because of her boyfriend. I was upset about it for a month, but now I see how happy she is every day. She’s living a good life. They started dating in college, so I assume they must love each other deeply. I envy them.”
Eva joined in, saying, “Yes, exactly! She got to walk down the aisle in a wedding dress with him. That’s my dream.”
Glancing at Estelle, Wallace continued, “I kept my hair short in school because I didn’t want to spend too much time on it. I never asked for the number of a guy I liked. I suppose he must be married with children by now.”
Estelle seemed to recall something and said, “It’s never too late to start a relationship if you truly love each other. Sometimes, beginning a relationship at a young age can be detrimental.”
Eva, fearing Estelle might consider ending her relationship with Cristofer, quickly added, “Estelle, I disagree. Love is precious, and it may not be rational to start and abruptly end a relationship.”
Estelle smiled and clarified, “I was just thinking out loud. Let’s get back to work. I can start sketching the jewelry design while the models are occupied. It could get chaotic if we return later to clarify the requirements.”
Eva quickly handed her paper and a pencil so Estelle could begin sketching the jewelry she had in mind.
Estelle didn’t force herself to draw the first draft accurately. She aimed to convey her concept, especially since the American style emphasized a casual look. Detailed drawings weren’t essential, and they might make modifications more challenging later. With a focused expression, Estelle asked, “Ms. Wallace, would you like the jewelry for all the models to have the same style, or should each piece have unique characteristics?”
Having seen the models’ clothing, Estelle understood that jewelry with different characteristics could complement the outfits. However, there was a risk of drawing too much attention if the jewelry was too distinctive. The decision was ultimately up to the customer.
Wallace was impressed by the earrings and bracelet that Estelle improvised. After a moment of thought, she responded, “Would there be enough time if you design the jewelry to match each outfit’s style? I didn’t initially expect the jewelry to perfectly match every outfit, but seeing your skills, I believe it’s possible.”
Estelle agreed confidently, “No problem. Could I take some pictures of the clothes? It will help me remember all the details accurately.”
Given the significance of the order for Hudson Group, Estelle was willing to invest more effort into the designs. She was even open to designing all the models’ accessories if it meant securing a substantial contract.
“Absolutely. Is that a yes, then?” Wallace asked eagerly, fearing Estelle might change her mind. “Deal!”
Estelle assured her, “Okay. I can create pieces similar to the earrings and bracelet, incorporating silver, agate, and crystal. The price may be a bit higher, but they’ll look stunning. Plus, you can use them for future events after this show.”
Eva promptly notified the legal team to modify the contract. While Estelle photographed the clothing, Eva discreetly printed the updated contract at the front desk. She then handed it to Estelle with a smile, saying, “Estelle, Ms. Wallace, here’s the contract for you to review.”
Estelle trusted Eva’s efficiency and didn’t thoroughly scrutinize the contract before passing it to Wallace. She told her, “You can review it first. If you have any additional requirements, we can discuss them.”
Wallace was pleasantly surprised by Estelle’s willingness to accommodate her new request. She replied, “That won’t be necessary. I trust you completely.”
“Sure. Let’s…” Estelle began discussing the details with Wallace when her phone suddenly beeped. She believed it was a work emergency and quickly checked her phone. However, she found a message on the screen that caught her attention.
It wouldn’t have been a big deal if it had been a regular message. But she noticed it was from Cristofer, and she couldn’t look away.
Wallace assumed Estelle was hesitant to reply while she waited, so she kindly said, “It’s okay; go ahead and answer it first.”
Estelle was distracted by Wallace’s words, and she unlocked her phone to read the message. It was a weather report warning of strong convection and the possibility of heavy rain or even a thunderstorm in certain areas. Citizens were advised to stay indoors and be cautious.
‘It’s quite a lengthy weather report. Cristofer must have forwarded it to me,’ Estelle thought to herself.
Eva noticed that Estelle seemed distracted and asked, “Is everything okay?”
Estelle took a moment to gather her thoughts, then replied, “There’s a rainstorm coming. We should head back soon. Ms. Wallace, we’ll have to leave now. You can reach out to me anytime. Goodbye for now.”
“What?! Will there be a storm on our way back?” Eva walked to the window and saw the sky was grey. As she didn’t see the clouds yet, she said dubiously, “Maybe it won’t rain soon. The weather report isn’t always accurate.”
