Hearing this, Estelle closed her eyes, feeling a deep pain.
“Mrs. Hans, Mr. Hans did make mistakes and hurt you in the past.
But he knows he was wrong. Over the years, he sacrificed and lost a lot to make amends for his actions. He’s even willing to give up his dignity and life for you.”
Estelle remained silent, uncertain of what to say.
“Mrs. Hans, I’ve never experienced what you’ve been through, and I won’t impose my judgment on you or pressure you to forgive Mr. Hans. I simply hope you can consider giving him a chance to turn his life around and make amends. Is that okay?”
After a moment of silence, Estelle’s voice trembled as she replied, “Vincent, please ask Ron to come to the hospital. I want to see him.”
“Okay.”
After Vincent’s call, Ron hurried to the hospital. He arrived twenty minutes later, looking worried. When he saw Estelle in Cristofer’s room, his expression turned serious. “Miss Hudson, what happened to Mr. Hans?” he asked sternly.
Instead of answering, Estelle responded with her own question, “Where is Mr. Mysterious?”
Ron smirked and said, “Miss Hudson, are you joking? Haven’t you been in touch with Mr. Mysterious recently? Why ask me where he is? Just call him, and you’ll know. Did you bring me here just for this?”
“You’re Mr. Mysterious’ driver and assistant. Why are you so concerned about Cristofer? Why did you rush here?” Estelle asked.
Ron struggled for words momentarily, looking uneasy as he stammered, “I… Wasn’t it you who had Vincent call me and ask me to come here? What’s going on?”
“Do you still resent me for leaving Mr. Mysterious back then?” Estelle asked.
With a dark expression, Ron replied, “Yes, I do. When Mr. Mysterious was dying and needed you the most, you heartlessly left with his money! You don’t know what he did for you! Why did you come back? Mr. Mysterious lived well without you for three years. But since your return, he’s been hurting himself because of you. He still doesn’t know you were with him only for his money!”
Estelle lowered her head and quietly confessed, “I asked you to come here to find out how he got the money he gave me back then.”
“Does that even matter to you?” Ron asked, his tone bitter. “Do you really care?”
Estelle offered a sad smile, glancing at a document she had received in her phone she remained silent.
“Why won’t you answer my questions?” Ron pressed.
“I’m checking the medical records,” Estelle replied.
“Whose medical records are you looking at? Your adopted daughter’s?” Ron questioned.
“No, it’s Cristofer’s medical record,” Estelle clarified and handed her phone to Ron. “This is from Dr. Cruise. The record shows that four years ago, Cristofer was diagnosed with bipolar disorder and had a split personality.”
Ron was taken aback, his eyes widening in surprise upon hearing her revelation.
Estelle continued, “According to Dr. Cruise’s record, Cristofer’s secondary personality initially only appeared at night. But since he first met me at the Grand Hotel in Hadale City with his secondary personality, the time he spent in that state grew longer.”
Ron remained silent.
“Let me guess what happened next. After the car accident three years ago, Cristofer lost his memory, and his secondary personality vanished, right?” Estelle asked.
Ron turned away without saying a word, tacitly confirming her statement.
Estelle felt a tight grip on her heart, and she said, “Ron, I believe I’ve pieced together the truth. I asked you to come here today to learn what he did for me in the past. Can you please tell me everything?”
A fit of coughing emanated from the bed as soon as Estelle finished speaking. Estelle and Ron rushed to Cristofer’s side.
“Mr. Hans!” Ron called out eagerly.
Lying in bed, Cristofer slowly opened his eyes, his brow furrowed. It appeared that the anesthesia hadn’t fully worn off, and he was still a bit groggy.
In a hushed tone, Ron asked gently, “Mr. Hans, are you okay?”
Cristofer nodded, then chuckled and asked, “Did Estelle send you here?”
“Yes…”
“Did you two have an argument?”
“No, I just…”
“I remember I told you that if I ever disappeared, you should take care of Estelle and the children for me. Why didn’t you do as I asked?” Cristofer confronted him.
Ron was pleasantly surprised, “Mr. Hans, you… you remember everything? When did your memory come back?”
Ignoring Ron’s question for the moment, Cristofer sat up with effort, rubbing his temples. “You haven’t answered my question,” he said, his expression serious. “I recall that three years ago, after my accident, you cried so hard outside the operating room and promised to follow my wishes.”
A hint of resentment crossed Ron’s face as he stated, “She’s not worth you caring about so much.”
Cristofer countered, “Whether she’s worth it or not is for me to decide.”
“But Mr. Hans…”
Cristofer raised his hand to silence Ron. “Today, Christina will be moved to the general ward. I can’t stay with her, as I fear she’ll be frightened seeing me like this. Your responsibilities today include handling the necessary paperwork for her and taking care of her. Go and attend to your tasks. I have something to discuss with Estelle.”
Reluctantly, Ron stood up and cast a final glance at Estelle before sighing and leaving the ward. He closed the door behind him, leaving only Estelle and Cristofer in the VIP room.
Cristofer looked at Estelle with a warm smile, his eyes filled with tenderness.
Seeing that expression, Estelle suddenly recalled how he used to gaze at her every day as Mr. Mysterious. For a moment, she didn’t know what to say. ‘Should I call you Cristofer or Mr. Mysterious?’ she pondered. Estelle had imagined reuniting with Mr. Mysterious countless times. She thought it might happen atop Mount Cloud, beneath the Malus Halliana tree, or in a cozy apartment in the Rose Garden. She never anticipated this reunion would occur in such circumstances, nor did she expect the man she once despised would become the man she deeply loved.
Reflecting on it, she chuckled bitterly, thinking it must be because she owed him in a past life that fate compelled her to fall in love with him twice in this life.
“Estelle,” Cristofer broke the silence, patting the space beside him. “Come here.”
Biting her lower lip, Estelle hesitated. Cristofer, still weak, talked slowly, making his voice even gentler. “Did I say some childish things in the emergency room?”
Shaking her head, Estelle shifted the conversation and said, “… You’re finally awake. I’ll call the doctor.”
