“Tell me where you are. I’ll pick you up, and we can go together, alright?”
Estelle shook her head, and with a firm tone, she rejected him, “No. I have something more important to attend to right now. Sir, you should seriously think about who you really are.”
After saying that, she hung up the phone swiftly. Anticipating more calls or messages from him, she decided to block his number, wanting to avoid any distractions.
Sitting on a bench outside, she pulled her coat tightly around her, gazing at the stark red emergency room sign.
Estelle couldn’t help but wonder, “Cristofer, what happened to you? Where were you during the day? Why did you appear at the Grand Hotel of Hadale City with such severe injuries? Are you keeping something from me?”
Bending her head, she noticed some unread messages from “Fake Mr. Mysterious” before he called her.
‘Did something happen to Cristofer? Is he in a bad condition? Has he made a will? Who’s going to get the Hans family’s properties?’
‘Where are you? I bought the lilies. Take me to the Hans’ Residence now. They need my help. If Cristofer dies, I’ll have to support the Hans family. Estelle, tell me where you are!!!’
Reading these messages, Estelle couldn’t help but feel bitter. She thought, ‘What a selfish man. All he cares about are the Hans family’s properties.’
Then, a sudden idea crossed her mind. ‘This fake Mr. Mysterious and Cristofer are twins, and they may have telepathy. That’s why he messaged me about Cristofer. He must have sensed something when Cristofer had the accident.’
‘Wait a minute. If they do have telepathy, it would explain how the fake Mr. Mysterious knows so much about my past with Mr. Mysterious. And if he’s not Mr. Mysterious, then Mr. Mysterious must be… Cristofer.’ Estelle glanced toward the emergency room in astonishment.
At that moment, a nurse rushed out and said with concern, “Mrs. Hans, Mr. Hans is asking for you.”
Estelle’s heart skipped a beat upon hearing this. She quickly got up and followed the nurse into the emergency room.
The last time she was in an emergency room, she had lung surgery, and it was incredibly painful. Now, she couldn’t help but wonder if Cristofer was in even more pain.
“Mrs. Hans, don’t worry. Mr. Hans is stable now. But he’s been asking for you and won’t wear the oxygen mask,” the nurse explained.
Estelle tried to appear calm and said, “I’m not afraid.”
The nurse noticed her trembling voice and smiled kindly. “Your love for each other is strong. I envy that.”
Estelle blushed and asked, “Has he had surgery?”
“Not yet. He insists on seeing you and won’t cooperate with the surgery until then,” the nurse replied.
“Estelle!”
Before Estelle could respond, Cristofer embraced her tightly.
“Estelle, I’m so sorry I’m late. I’m a terrible person. Please don’t leave…” Cristofer held her in his strong arms, making it hard for her to breathe.
Since Cristofer was seriously injured, Estelle didn’t want to struggle in his arms, so she gently pushed him and said, “Cristofer, please let go for a moment…”
“No!” Cristofer choked out, his voice hoarse. “Estelle, don’t leave. Don’t go there, okay?”
Confused, Estelle asked, “Don’t go where? What are you talking about?”
“Please, don’t go to where he is… Don’t go…” Cristofer pleaded.
Understanding that he meant the fake Mr. Mysterious, Estelle reached out to pat his back gently and reassured him, “Alright, I won’t go. I’ll stay here with you. But you need to let go. I can’t breathe.”
Cristofer hesitated for a moment before loosening his grip slightly, holding her more gently. Resting his chin on her shoulder, he spoke with a hint of desperation, “I know you’ll leave me sooner or later. I know you still hate me.”
“Cristofer…” Estelle felt the weight of his body and did her best to support him.
“Estelle, would you forgive me if I don’t make it?”
“Don’t talk nonsense.”
“Estelle, I’m so tired and sleepy, but I can’t sleep. When I close my eyes, all I can think of is you. I imagine us watching the stars together, spending every day with you when you were pregnant with Yvonne. But it’s just a dream. I’m sorry I wasn’t there when you needed me. I’m sorry for not being with you when we lost our Christina. I didn’t even know she existed until recently…”
‘Our Christina?’ Hearing this, Estelle quickly asked, “Cristofer, what do you mean by ‘our Christina’? Are you…”
However, Cristofer, lost in his emotions, didn’t hear her question. He continued, “Estelle, Room 1231 is only for us. You can stay there as long as you want. But how could you let him stay there, too? That room is only for us. No one else should enter it…”
Estelle’s heart raced when she heard this, confirming her suspicions. If Cristofer had said these words while sober, she might have doubted their truth. But in his current state, seriously injured and delirious, she found his words credible.
“Ahem!” The doctor cleared his throat, a bit embarrassed, and reminded them in a low voice, “Mrs. Hans, I understand that you two want to express your feelings, but can we please put an oxygen mask on Mr. Hans first? Saving his life is our top priority right now.”
The nearby nurse whispered to Estelle, “Mrs. Hans, your presence has really calmed Mr. Hans down. He was quite emotional earlier and nearly made a mess in here.”
Glancing around, Estelle saw the chaotic state of the emergency room. There were three other doctors, all looking exhausted with messy scrub caps and clothing. Estelle could imagine the commotion that had taken place.
“Yes, we apologize for the disruption,” another doctor said.
Estelle smiled apologetically and said softly, “I’m sorry. I’ll make sure to compensate the hospital for any damages.”
“That’s not our immediate concern. While Mr. Hans is out of immediate danger, he has numerous injuries and over ten broken bones. We still need to clean and bandage his wounds. Time is of the essence for his treatment,” the doctor explained anxiously.
Nodding in understanding, Estelle whispered in Cristofer’s ear, “What would you like to do now?”
Cristofer had his face buried in Estelle’s neck. He nodded and shook his head, whispering, “I don’t feel good. I’m dizzy, and it hurts.”
Estelle asked, “Where does it hurt?”
Cristofer replied, “I ache all over.”
Estelle gently suggested, “Why don’t you lie down and let the doctor check on you?”
In a muffled voice, Cristofer said, “Aren’t you going? He’s waiting for you.”
Estelle comforted him with a chuckle, “I won’t leave. I’ll stay with you.”
Cristofer finally stood up straight, revealing his pale face. He was too weak to even open his eyes or smile easily. Restlessly, he asked, “How long will you stay with me?”
Estelle replied, “I’ll be with you as long as you’re alive.”
