Biting her lower lip, Estelle looked up at Cristofer. And at the same time, Cristofer turned his head to look at her. When their eyes met, the rims of Estelle’s eyes instantly turned red, and she said, “You…. You are really…”
“The night that we spent under the Malus Halliana tree was the happiest and most wonderful time in my life,” Cristofer said in a husky voice as his expression softened. Then, narrowing his eyes, he looked as if he was recalling what had happened that night. “Estelle, you said you wanted to see the snow, but due to the climate, it has almost never snowed in Hadale, and it’s almost impossible that we could see snow here. So I took you to the back of Mount Cloud to see the tree. When the petals of the flowers on it fluttered in the air, they looked like snowflakes, and it looked really beautiful.”
Hot tears dropped from Estelle’s eyes when she heard his words. But the next moment, she thought of something and said with a hint of doubt in her eyes, “But this is not enough to prove that you are Mr. Mysterious. You said you dreamed of the Malus Halliana tree before. You know what it looks like…”
“What if I can take you to see that tree again?” Cristofer asked her with a sincere tone.
Estelle was speechless.
“I’m afraid few people in the city know where that tree is. The road there is rugged, and it’s difficult to find that.”
“But you and Mr. Mysterious are twins. You two may have telepathy and share memories.” Estelle snapped quickly.
Cristofer maintained a gentle smile and addressed Estelle, saying, “Estelle, the tree is situated in the rear of Mount Cloud, and the path leading to it is quite difficult. Even if I know its general location, it doesn’t guarantee that I can find it. If you doubt my words, you can accompany me, and I’ll help you find it right now.”
Estelle was momentarily left speechless, contemplating Cristofer’s explanation. She realized that his reasoning had merit. The Malus Halliana tree, despite its size and prominence, might prove challenging to find. She had initially assumed it would be an easy task upon her return to Hadale, but her previous attempts to find the tree at the back of Mount Cloud had been unsuccessful.
‘You can find the Malus Halliana tree. Maybe you’re really Mr. Mysterious,’ she thought.
“Can you really find the Malus Halliana tree?” Estelle asked nervously.
Cristofer responded, “Yes. Would you like to accompany me to Mount Cloud now?” He said gently and gazed out the window, adding, “It’s already dark, but we can enjoy the beauty of the trees and the night scenery again if you’d like.”
“Okay,” Estelle agreed with a nod.
Cristofer’s smile widened, and he held her hand even more firmly as they set off. Upon reaching the villa’s doorway, he paused and turned to address Nelson with seriousness, saying, “Uncle Nelson, as I mentioned earlier, I’ve settled my debts to you, and we no longer have any ties. If you ever dare to harm Estelle in the future, don’t expect me to show any mercy.”
Nelson was indignant, exclaiming, “How can you speak so ungratefully? You have no gratitude!”
Ignoring his protests, Cristofer turned away and said to Estelle, “Let’s go.” He held her hand, which felt dry and warm, and she nodded in agreement. Together, they exited the villa and got into the car, driving away from the scene.
Standing by the window, Geoffrey kept frowning and watched the lights until they were out of sight.
“… Geoffrey,” Nelson called his name in a weak voice.
Hearing his voice, Geoffrey walked over with his stick.
“Do you think he really remembers everything?” Nelson asked.
Geoffrey contemplated for a moment before saying, “I can’t be certain, but based on Estelle’s response, it’s highly probable that he has indeed regained his memory.”
Nelson reacted with anxiety and deep anger, slamming his wheelchair’s armrest. “What a bummer! Why did he suddenly recall everything? How did it happen?”
“The doctor mentioned that although Cristofer sustained a severe head injury, there were no organic brain diseases. His memory loss was due to the disappearance of his secondary personality. It’s possible that something triggered the return of his secondary personality, allowing him to remember everything,” Geoffrey explained.
“You are talking nonsense!” Nelson sneered as he picked up the coffee spoon on the tea table and threw it at Geoffrey to vent his anger.
Since Geoffrey was crippled, he couldn’t dodge nimbly, and the coffee spoon hit his face. It didn’t hurt, but he felt humiliated.
Rubbing his face, he sneered and said, “Whether you believe what I said or not, there’s nothing you can do about it now. Cristofer has remembered everything. He’s going to get out of your control again.”
“No way! I won’t let that happen!” Nelson shouted.
“Then what can you do with it? Asking me to drive to hit him again?” Geoffrey retorted.
“Why not? He lost his memory and came back to his first personality after you hit him last time. Maybe we can let him forget everything by doing that again.”
Geoffrey shook his head and smiled, saying, “Uncle Nelson, the last time I harmed him, he was completely focused on being with Estelle and wasn’t on guard. But now that he’s had a falling out with you, he’ll be wary of you, fearing you might harm him and Estelle.”
“I finally have an exceptional heir, and I can’t let Estelle ruin my retirement plans! Geoffrey, find a way to separate them!”
“No, I can’t,” Geoffrey replied.
“What did you just say?” Nelson asked, surprised and angered, not expecting Geoffrey to defy him.
“I said it’s impossible. Cristofer is highly favored by fate, and he’s always been proud. However, he knelt and bowed to me for Estelle’s sake. He values Estelle more than his own pride. Separating them is not possible, Uncle Nelson.”
“Then find a way to make Estelle disappear from this world!” Nelson’s voice thundered.
“It’s too late,” Geoffrey said, “Today at Gary’s birthday party, Cristofer announced that Estelle is his wife in front of everyone. Now, all the influential and powerful people have known their marital status and there will be countless people keeping an eye on her. The police will suspect us if we kill Estelle.”
Slumping back into the wheelchair, Nelson said in frustration. “Is there really no way to reverse the situation?”
“Uncle Nelson, there is a way that enables you to enjoy your retirement as you planned.”
“Cut the crap and tell me now!” Nelson interrupted him in a loud voice.
“But I’m afraid you’ll be angry if I say it,” Geoffrey thrilled off.
“Just say it. As long as it can work, I won’t be angry.” Nelson urged. His face had turned livid with anger.
