“I find it incredible, too. He had never been to the top of Mount Cloud, yet he knew about the big tree there. He even mentioned dreaming about the Malus Halliana tree on the back of Mount Cloud.”
“Could it be that Mr. Mysterious contacted Cristofer earlier and told him about it?”
After careful thought, Estelle shook her head and explained, “No, after we saw the Malus Halliana tree, we went to the mountain, and then Mr. Mysterious had a car accident on the way to the airport. He didn’t have a chance to tell anyone about the tree.”
Rebecca scratched her head and remarked, “So, there really is telepathy between twins? It’s hard to believe.”
With a wry smile, Estelle replied, “I consulted a psychiatrist about it. She said it’s a possibility.”
“Estelle, did you only live with Cristofer and… kiss him in public earlier because of Grandpa Gary?” Rebecca inquired.
“Yes,” Estelle replied, nodding. “Grandpa Gary is not well, and his time may be limited. He’s always been very kind to me, so I want to do everything I can to ensure he spends his remaining days happily. I don’t want him to pass away with regrets.”
“I understand,” Rebecca said.
Suddenly, Estelle realized something and asked, “I recall you weren’t at the villa just now. How did you find out about me kissing Cristofer?”
With a smirk, Rebecca retorted, “All the guests here know what happened earlier. They mentioned that you not only kissed Cristofer but even bit him, and he didn’t utter a word. They never expected Cristofer to be so humble in front of you.”
“Estelle, if Cristofer and Mr. Mysterious really have telepathy and one day he has all the memories of Mr. Mysterious, will you be with Cristofer again?”
Estelle was stunned. She had never thought about this question. After thinking for a while, she shook her head and said, “No, I won’t. Even if Cristofer had all the memories of Mr. Mysterious, he would never become Mr. Mysterious. They are different people.
“Cristofer’s voice is different from Mr. Mysterious’. I can distinguish between them.”
Hearing her answer, Rebecca felt relieved. “You are right. Although they are twins and look the same, there must be differences between them,” she said.
Estelle nodded slowly, but then a doubt rose in her mind.
‘When Jimmy’s subordinates wanted to hurt me at the door of the restaurant that day, Cristofer suddenly appeared and saved me, just like what Mr. Mysterious did three years ago. And he was also all in black, as Mr. Mysterious did before. Did such a coincidence happen just because of the telepathy between the two of them?’
“Forget it, Estelle. Don’t think about it. Christina’s liver transplant surgery is the most important now. I heard from Justin that you have found a suitable liver donor. Is that right?”
“Yes.”
“That’s good. Christina finally can be saved. Compared with Henry, Christina is very lucky,” Rebecca uttered.
Hearing this, Estelle took her hand and comforted her, “Don’t blame yourself. Henry… just went to another world to be reunited with his mother.”
Rebecca sniffed and said in a choked voice, “I know. When he was alive, he was not happy and missed his mother every day. Maybe his death is a merciful release.”
A year ago, Henry had passed away due to liver disease. Rebecca was deeply saddened and had called Estelle, crying throughout the night. Whenever Estelle thought of Henry, she remembered how he had sung “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” for her in a cheerful, childlike voice during her toughest times.
Rebecca continued with anguish, “Estelle, why do bad things always seem to happen to good people? Life can be so unjust. Oh, and by the way, I happened to see Gretchen’s son at a foster home a few days ago. You know what? He actually lifted a girl’s skirt. The teacher scolded him and told him to behave, but he ignored it and insisted he did nothing wrong.”
“Gretchen’s son must be around three years old, right?”
“Yes. Humph. Her son isn’t cute at all. Even though he was young, he seemed like a tricky adult. Maybe he takes after his father.”
“Do you know who his father is?”
“No, but I’m sure it’s not Cristofer. Despite his flaws, Cristofer is good-looking. His child wouldn’t be as unattractive. If that boy were Cristofer’s son, he’d be as handsome and charming as Yohan and Yvonne.”
Upon hearing this, Estelle smiled but remained silent.
Rebecca licked her lips and cautiously suggested, “Do you suspect that Cristofer might be the child’s father? Would you like me to look into it again?”
Raising an eyebrow, Estelle asked playfully, “Are you planning to gather information by seducing Justin once more?”
“Well, it’s a mutually beneficial arrangement. I get what I need, and he gets what he wants,” Rebecca replied.
Letting out a small sigh, Estelle uttered sincerely, “Rebecca, Justin genuinely loves you. Remember when Howard used you and almost tarnished your reputation? It was Justin who protected you and handled those troubles. You should cherish him.”
“I understand. It’s my fault. I shouldn’t have trusted Howard back then. My father was pushing me to get married and arranging blind dates for me, so I pretended to be in a fake relationship with Howard. I never expected he’d use me and tell the media that I used my family’s influence to force him to be with me! I was furious!”
Estelle offered comfort, “It’s not your fault. Who could have known he was such a deceitful person? Thankfully, you have Justin by your side now. He cares about you and is willing to be with you through thick and thin. You’re really fortunate.”
“I see. I’ll cherish him,” Rebecca blushed and added, “Estelle, I’m going to get engaged.”
Surprised and pleased, Estelle asked, “Did Justin propose to you?”
“Yes. A few days ago, he got drunk and took me to his home, then declared in front of his family that he wanted to marry me. He said he had made up his mind to marry me, and even if they disagreed, he wouldn’t change his mind.”
“Rebecca, congratulations!” Estelle exclaimed with a smile.
“Thank you, Estelle,” Rebecca responded, feeling a bit bashful. “I never thought I’d be the first one to wear a wedding dress among us.”
“I’ve worn a wedding dress once before.”
“When was that?”
“It was on the night before the day Mr. Mysterious had his accident.”
“That night, Mr. Mysterious and I had our wedding ceremony beneath the Malus Halliana tree, using my dress as a wedding gown. I thought we were starting a new life abroad and was overjoyed. But the next morning, everything took a different turn. Alas…” Estelle reflected with a heavy heart.
The image of Mr. Mysterious covered in blood and lying still in the pouring rain had etched itself deeply into her mind. Just thinking about it made Estelle feel as though a knife were piercing her heart.
“The time we shared happiness was so brief. All I wanted was a simple life with my beloved, but now it feels like an unattainable dream. God can be so cruel, taking away my right to happiness,” she thought.
