Nelson didn’t say anything.
Estelle then continued, “I love him, and I hope he can live well. If he can be with me, it will be the best. But if being with me will force him to sacrifice a lot, I will take the initiative to leave him. Mr. Lopez, women are not necessarily stumbling blocks in men’s careers. If Mr. Mysterious is really alive, and if he is living a good life now, I will accept it even if I can’t be with him anymore.”
“Miss Hudson, you are trying to trick me again?” Nelson asked coldly.
“No, I really mean what I said this time,” Estelle said, “Mr. Lopez, I just want to know about his current condition. Is he well now? Answer my question, and I will give up on him.”
Nelson was silent on the other end.
“Mr. Lopez, I just want you to answer my question. You can threaten me with Christina’s life, so even if I know Mr. Mysterious is alive, I won’t dare to do anything recklessly. Besides, you are so powerful. If you want to hide him, I will never be able to find him. You don’t need to worry about anything.”
Nelson was still silent.
Taking a deep breath, Estelle continued in a soft voice, “Mr. Lopez, to tell you the truth, I came back this time for two things. One is to find a suitable liver donor for Christina. The other is to solve the problems of my company.”
“Now, I haven’t found a suitable donor, and my company is on the brink of bankruptcy due to my uncle. So, I’ll have to stay in Hadale for some time. Mr. Mysterious is capable and outstanding. As long as he appears in public, he’ll attract attention, and I can find him. Unless you plan to keep him away from public life forever, I’ll find him sooner or later,” Estelle declared.
Nelson’s face underwent a dramatic change upon hearing this. He retorted, “Miss Hudson, your eloquence is quite irritating.”
“When negotiating, both parties should be honest about their intentions for smooth negotiations. This is what Mr. Mysterious taught me,” Estelle replied.
“What else did he teach you?” Nelson inquired.
“He also taught me to seek retribution against those who have wronged me,” Estelle added.
Sitting in his study, Nelson lapsed into silence, torn between believing Estelle and doubting her true intentions. He couldn’t quite grasp her motives.
At that moment, Geoffrey entered the study, bearing a cup of freshly brewed coffee.
“Uncle Nelson, this coffee is made from the newly purchased beans. Please give it a try,” Geoffrey said respectfully.
However, Nelson waved his hand dismissively and retorted coldly, “Get out.”
“Okay,” Geoffrey replied before limping out of the study with the help of his walking stick, closing the door behind him.
Afterward, Nelson addressed Estelle over the phone, saying, “Miss Hudson.”
“I’m listening.”
Nelson sighed and said, “Alas, I truly regret not forcefully separating the two of you back then. He drained me, both physically and mentally. And now, you’re doing the same. I fear my life may be cut short because of the two of you.”
Estelle couldn’t help but chuckle at his words. “Mr. Lopez, your wit remains sharp even after talking with me for so long. It seems you’re in good health. May you have a long life.”
Nelson responded, “I’ll consider that a blessing.”
Estelle agreed, “Indeed, it is a blessing.”
Nelson then asked, “Don’t you wish for me to meet an early demise so you can reunite with him?”
After pondering for a moment, Estelle continued, “If Mr. Mysterious is still alive, there are two scenarios in which he wouldn’t come to see me. One is if he’s severely injured and bedridden, but in that case, we wouldn’t have the opportunity to meet at all, and you wouldn’t need to press me to leave Hadale. The other scenario is…”
Nelson inquired, “What is the other scenario?”
Estelle replied, “He simply doesn’t wish to see me.”
Nelson couldn’t help but burst into laughter. “Miss Hudson, are you sure you’re just a jewelry designer?”
Estelle responded, “What else would I be?”
Nelson teased her, “You could be a detective or a policewoman with your rationality and clear analytical mind.”
Estelle smiled faintly and said, “Mr. Lopez, everyone has their own fate. I will accept if Mr. Mysterious no longer wishes to be with me. In that case, you needn’t worry because he will still be your ideal heir. So, please, just tell me whether he is still alive.”
Considering her reasoning, Nelson replied with a satisfied tone, “You are right. He is still alive.”
Estelle was stunned, and her heart jolted.
‘Mr. Mysterious is really alive…’
Even though Estelle had been confident that Mr. Mysterious was still alive based on her conversation with Nelson, hearing it directly from him made it feel surreal.
“He is not only alive but also living a good life now. Don’t worry, he’s very healthy,” Nelson assured her.
Curious about the situation, Estelle couldn’t help but ask, “Then why…”
Nelson interrupted firmly, “Miss Hudson, you asked one question, and I’ve answered it. I won’t entertain any more questions from you.”
A sudden realization hit Estelle, and she asked, “Is it because of the letter? Did he see the letter you had me write to him, and that’s why he doesn’t want to see me anymore?”
Nelson responded sternly, “I’ve already told you, Miss Hudson, I won’t answer any more questions. Enough.”
Feeling a deep pang of heartache, Estelle pressed her hand to her chest as if to quell her emotional turmoil.
Nelson’s voice on the phone continued, “I have more connections than you think. Since I promised to save that sick child, I will make it happen. Just focus on your company for now. I’ll reach out to you when I find a suitable liver donor. Don’t push me too hard. Consider yourself warned.”
With that final statement, Nelson ended the call, leaving Estelle holding the phone in her hand, lost in thought. A firm knock on the door abruptly broke her reverie.
“Miss Hudson, Miss Miller is here to see you,” a voice called from the other side.
Rebecca is here?
Estelle adjusted her emotion and said, “Let her in.”
“Okay.”
The next moment, Rebecca pushed the door open and entered, muttering, “I told you I’m a good friend of your boss. Why didn’t you believe me?”
She walked toward Estelle with a joyful expression. “Hey, Estelle!”
With a warm smile, Estelle rose from her seat, approached Rebecca, and gave her a hug.
“What brings you here?” Estelle inquired as she stepped back.
“My love for you!” Rebecca playfully responded. “Do you have anything to eat here? I’m starving.”
Estelle gestured to the employee at the door to prepare some food for Rebecca.
