This reasoning leaves Justin speechless, finding Cristofer’s perspective quite absurd.
“So, you’re planning to marry Miss Wilson merely for practical reasons?” he questioned.
“Not entirely. I’ve had a few encounters with her. I prefer a quiet woman, and she’s introverted and reserved. Our personalities align well. Additionally, her family background is unpretentious. Her parents are regular wage earners, and she’s their only child. Marrying her means I won’t have to be overly concerned about familial matters,” Cristofer explained.
Justin was even more speechless. “Come on. Are you choosing a wife or an employee?”
“Is there any difference?” Cristofer asked as he walked to the window and lit a cigarette. Then he drew heavily on the cigarette and puffed out a cloud of smoke.
He then added, “I only have two requirements for my future wife. One is that she has to be obedient, and the other is that she can’t be clingy.”
Justin shook his head and responded with a helpless smile, “All right. I won’t persuade you anymore. You can do whatever you want. But what did your secretary do to offend you just now? She didn’t make any mistakes. Why do you want to fire her?”
With a cold expression, Cristofer said, “What I run is a company, not a charity. I hired her to help me deal with the company affairs, not to increase my workload. But she even reported such a trifle as the legal department receiving packages to me. It’s not a mistake, but it just proves that she’s incapable and can’t keep up with me in working.”
“Come on. Few people can keep up with you in working,” Justin stated. “Cristofer, you don’t have to make yourself a working machine. You are a human being. You have emotions. Even if you and Miss Hudson…”
Realizing that he shouldn’t have mentioned Estelle, Justin shut his mouth immediately.
After a few seconds, he continued, “Well, I mean, you should take your marriage seriously. Miss Wilson is a good girl. You don’t need a marriage based on love, but it doesn’t mean she doesn’t need it either.”
“Love?” Cristofer arched an eyebrow and remarked, “Justin, love is a complex phenomenon. It can bring joy, but it’s equally capable of causing pain. As your friend, I suggest you remain cautious when it comes to Rebecca. Despite her appearance and apparent kindness, there’s no guarantee she isn’t capable of cruelty.”
“Cristofer, you genuinely don’t remember?” Justin queried.
“Remember what?”
“You and Miss Hudson once…”
“Enough, Justin. Drop the subject. If you mention that woman again, we’ll stop being friends,” Cristofer interjected sternly.
Justin’s expression froze momentarily, and then he said helplessly, “Cristofer, don’t you really want to regain your lost memory? Many things had happened between you and her…”
“No, I don’t,” Cristofer interrupted him, “Don’t mention our past anymore. It’s a disgrace to me.”
“All right. I’m leaving now. I’ve tried to persuade you countless times, but you just wouldn’t listen. Since then, I won’t mention it anymore. Don’t regret it in the future,” Justin warned him.
Three years ago, when Cristofer woke up in the hospital, he had forgotten everything that had happened in the past few months. Every time Justin wanted to help him regain his memory, Cristofer would refuse him and say that he didn’t want to know anything about the past between Estelle and him.
As he prepared to leave, Justin offered a bitter smile and remarked, “I won’t be attending your wedding. I’ll arrange for someone to deliver the wedding gift.”
Cristofer had finished his cigarette, and upon hearing Justin’s words, he spoke gently as he extinguished the butt, “Will you be occupied on the day of my wedding?”
“You seem unconcerned about your wife and the wedding itself. There’s no point for me to attend. I’ll ensure a gift is prepared for both of you. By the way, what’s the name of your future wife?”
Cristofer suddenly furrowed his brow and responded, “I’ll inquire about her name.”
“You don’t even know her name?!” Justin exclaimed in surprise.
“I forgot it. I can only recall her last name. But it’s not a crucial detail,” Cristofer explained.
Shaking his head with a mixture of resignation and sympathy, Justin sighed before making his departure.
Exiting Cristofer’s office, he encountered Linda.
“Mr. Roberts, I brought your coffee.”
Noticing the reddened edges of her eyes from crying, Justin felt a pang of empathy. He accepted the cup, swiftly finishing its contents, and then handed the empty cup back to her, thanking her, “I appreciate it.”
“You’re welcome.”
“Don’t be disheartened. Cristofer is consistently like this. He has dismissed more than twenty secretaries before. It’s not that your skills aren’t remarkable enough, but rather his standards are exceedingly high. Please don’t be upset,” Justin consoled.
Linda couldn’t help but shed tears again and said in a choking voice, “I see. Mr. Roberts, thank you so much.”
“Cheer up. I hope you can find a new job soon. Good luck.” Justin said and left the company.

After wiping her tears, Linda returned the cup to the break room and went to the legal department.
This was her first job after graduation. Although she had been fired, she still decided to complete her last task meticulously.
Perhaps it was because she would leave the company that she was not that afraid of Cristofer anymore. When she moved the large stack of packages received by the legal department to Cristofer’s office, she directly put them on Cristofer’s desk with a thud.
Cristofer, engrossed in a video conference, was instantly irked and snapped, “What are you doing?!”
Linda calmly replied, “Mr. Hans, these are the packages received by the legal department today. Although you are busy, I think you should spare some time to read the documents in them. They were dispatched by the Hudson Group and comprised contracts about share and property transfers. Our legal team has read them. The shares and properties in question belong to the Hans Group. Currently, the Hudson Group’s president has transferred them to you.”
Cristofer was momentarily stunned, his hand hovering over the mouse frozen.
“These are…”
“Kindly read the content and sign your signature to the contracts if you intend to accept the shares and properties. The legal department will manage subsequent formalities. If you have no interest in them, I will instruct the legal department to return the packages,” Linda explained evenly.
After finishing her words, Linda walked out and returned to her cubicle outside Cristofer’s office.
Sitting at her desk, she prepared for the resignation procedure while waiting for further instructions from Cristofer.
In the CEO’s Office, Cristofer ended the video conference quickly, opened the packages, and read the documents.
The documents were all about properties of the Hans family, including the Hans Group, some jewelry stores, gem mines, real estate, and shopping malls.
The properties that York had pocketed before were finally returned to him.
