Chapter 278: I’m Your Lawyer

Although she knew Henry was in good hands, she still appeared a little concerned.
“What else is bothering you?” Mr. Mysterious asked.
“Sir, do you think Henry might suddenly revert to his original personality in the future?” Estelle asked with worry.
After being silent for a while, Mr. Mysterious said slowly, “It’s possible. After all, no one knows what will happen in the future.”
“Have you ever been in a similar situation?”
“Yes.”
“Did you remember the details of being separated from your parents when you were a child?” Estelle inquired.
“No, I recalled something else,” Mr. Mysterious replied. “But that’s not important anymore. In reality, I share many similarities with Henry. We both experienced a painful event and struggled with depression. Fortunately, having a split personality allowed us to choose the life we wanted. Regardless of which personality we embody, we’re still ourselves. So, we just need to choose the personality we prefer.”
Estelle felt puzzled by his explanation. “Are you saying that if Henry recovers his original personality and remembers everything from the past, he can still shift to his secondary personality? Is that possible?”
“Perhaps. Rebecca is an optimist, and Justin is a caring man. I hope Henry can grow up carefree under their care. As he grows stronger, even if he suddenly remembers his mother’s death, he will be able to handle it,” Mr. Mysterious explained.
Hearing his words, Estelle felt a sense of relief.
“God shows mercy to everyone. Rebecca desired a child without wanting to get married, and now she has Henry by her side. As for Henry, he lost his mother and was homeless, but fortunately, he found a home with Rebecca through adoption. And… Sir, I can’t help but feel that God sent you to rescue me.”
“Why do you think that?” Mr. Mysterious asked.
“Because you came into my life while I was through the toughest times. You understand me completely and love me so deeply. In my heart, you are like a perfect man tailor-made for me by God. Whenever I needed help, you were there for me. Everything between us is so wonderful that sometimes I wonder if I’m dreaming. And even if I wake up from the dream, I would still be a cancer patient at my last breath…”
Before she could finish her words, Mr. Mysterious suddenly put his hand on the back of her head and bent over to kiss her.
Estelle’s mind went blank. The kiss was so affectionate that she even felt it was difficult to breathe.
After a long while, Mr. Mysterious ended the kiss.
With a slight flush on her cheeks, Estelle licked her lips and said, “Why did you suddenly kiss me?”
Mr. Mysterious chuckled and caressed her cheek, “Don’t say that anymore. Got it?”
“Got it.” Estelle nodded.
“Good girl,” Mr. Mysterious smiled and pushed her gently. “You should go out now. I’ll take a shower.”
Estelle paused and hesitated. “You…”
She had thought that Mr. Mysterious had taken her into the bathroom because he wanted to have sex with her. But now she realized that he didn’t have such an intention at all and that she had thought too much.
Mr. Mysterious saw her thoughts through her eyes at a glance, and his smile broadened.
“What’s wrong? You want to stay and take a shower with me?” he asked deliberately with a meaningful smile.
“You wish!” Estelle pouted and ran out of the bathroom in embarrassment.
In the bathroom, Mr. Mysterious gently closed the door after Estelle was out of sight.
He turned on the water to the fullest, hoping the hot water could wash away the humiliation he had suffered.
Soon, the sharp pain on his face reminded Cristofer of the recent incident at the hospital. He remembered kneeling on the ground at the flower bed outside the hospital, performing kowtows to Geoffrey.
However, even then, Geoffrey remained unsatisfied. He stepped on Cristofer’s face and relentlessly dragged it along the ground.
“Cristofer, I never imagined you’d be so foolish as to give up your wealth, influence, and even your dignity for a woman with limited time left to live,” Geoffrey said, laughing wildly and arrogantly.
During that moment, Cristofer remained silent, choosing not to respond.
Dignity was nothing for him now. He was born with a silver spoon in his mouth and used to have everything.
But all those things were not important to him. Without Estelle, his life would be meaningless.
As long as he could be with Estelle, he was willing to give up his useless dignity.
After a while, Geoffrey, who had been laughing, suddenly thought of something and shed tears.
“Cristofer, I lost to you.”
Having got soaked to the skin, Cristofer got up from the ground, feeling unprecedentedly relieved and looking at Geoffrey silently.
“After you leave, Uncle Nelson will have to let me be his successor because he has no choice. In a sense, everything I want is given by you,” Geoffrey said with a bitter smile.
Cristofer didn’t bother to talk to him. “Will you keep your promise and help us?”
Geoffrey’s laughter echoed as he said, “Indeed. You may not want Uncle Nelson’s property, but I certainly do. As long as you’re out of the picture, everything I desire will be mine. So, I’ll gladly assist you in leaving, and I sincerely hope you never return.”
“Okay.”
It was meaningless to talk more with Geoffrey, so Cristofer ended the conversation and then went home quickly.

On Friday morning, the court commenced its session.
Estelle picked up Aurora early in the morning and headed to the court together.
“Hello, Miss Hudson. It’s nice to see you,” a man in a suit approached and greeted Estelle with a smile.
Estelle was momentarily taken aback and asked, “You are… Mr. Jones?”
“Yes, that’s right,” Peter replied kindly. “It’s been months since we last met. You look much better now.”
Estelle smiled and asked, “Did Cristofer ask you to come here and defend Gretchen and Melody?”
“No, I’m your lawyer,” Peter clarified.
“My lawyer?” Estelle was surprised and responded, “But this is a public prosecution case. I was just summoned as a witness and didn’t hire a lawyer.”
“Well, when you needed my help, I hesitated and didn’t offer assistance. It has weighed heavily on my conscience for the past months, and I can’t bear it any longer. So, now I want to do something to help you,” Peter explained.
At that moment, Aurora whispered softly, “Estelle, who is he?”
Estelle introduced Peter to her mother, saying, “Mom, this is Mr. Jones. Cristofer appointed him to handle the divorce proceedings with me a long time ago.”
Aurora frowned upon hearing this and asked, “A long time ago?”
“Yes, Cristofer wanted to divorce me when I was pregnant with Yvonne,” Estelle explained.
“Why didn’t you tell me about it earlier?” Aurora inquired.
“It’s all in the past now. Let’s not dwell on it and go inside. The court hearing is about to start,” Estelle said, changing the topic.
They both entered the courtroom and took their seats as directed by an officer.
Peter sat beside Estelle and pulled out numerous documents from his briefcase.
“Mr. Jones, if the evidence proves Melody and Gretchen are guilty, how long will their sentences be?” Estelle inquired.
