Chapter 440 Amber’s Pain

Book:The Winner Is King Published:2024-5-1

After a few minutes.
Mr. Ward came back.
“Young master, he got away, only this rifle is left when we got there.” Dispirited, Mr. Ward passed the rifle to Jack.
Jack was a bit angry, “If it wasn’t for Brent just so happen to wake up, there’ll be three corpses now here in this ward.”
Brent, who was lying on the ground, smiled helplessly.
“Young master, you can’t blame the guards. Assassins usually planned their escape route before every mission. With the distance of two blocks, he had more than enough time to run away before Mr. Ward can get there.”
With that said, he took the rifle from Jack’s hand and scrutinized it.
Jack didn’t bother him and went on to settle the after-event matters with Mr. Ward.
A gunshot in the middle of the night was a huge deal.
Furthermore, after being sniped, they couldn’t stay in the same ward anymore and had to switch to a new ward.
However, while the rest was busy settling the matter.
Nobody noticed there was a hint of astonishment in Brent eyes as he was examining the rifle. He stared at the stock of the gun in a daze for two seconds.
When Jack was done with his work, the doctor came to take care of Brent’s wound.
After they changed to a new ward, Jack and Mr. Ward couldn’t sleep at all.
And Brent seemed to be pondering something while lying on the bed.
After a short while.
Brent said, “Young master, Mr. Ward, let’s go back tomorrow.”
“Tomorrow?”
Jack looked at Brent in surprise, “The doctor said with your current condition, you need to be hospitalized for at least a week before he makes sure you can leave.”
And the time of a week was actually only for him to get out of hazard. It would take a long time for him to recover fully.
“Let’s do tomorrow. I can handle it.”
Brent said firmly, “We’ve already met the old master, and we’re having an assassin after us outside of our territory. I’m afraid it’ll be too risky to stay here.”
Mr. Ward blinked, “Let’s listen to Brent, young master. We should be safe on the private jet. We’ll send Brent to LJ Hospital once we get back to our territory. It’ll be easier for us to deal with things if anything were to happen then.”
After contemplating for a few seconds, Jack nodded helplessly.
It was indeed risky to stay here. Even though the Hunter family had enough power to control everything happened in this city.
But the key was, the Hunter family and Jeweline Group were the trump cards his father had left him. He wouldn’t want to involve them unless it was necessary.
The next day.
Mr. Ward got all the procedures done early in the morning.
With the usher from Jeweline and his guards, they rushed to the nearest airport from the city.
It was a safe trip. They got on the private jet.
With a long look, Jack sighed a breath of relief.
And Brent looked as if he got something off his chest.
Seven o’clock in the evening.
Their plane landed.
Daisy and Lone Wolf were already waiting at the airport.
Getting in the car, Daisy ushered Jack to send Brent to the hospital.
Then they went back to TM Villa District with Mr. Ward and Lone Wolf.
Jack didn’t feel like sleeping at all when he reached home.
Sitting at the balcony with messy thoughts, he drank a beer while the night wind blew across his face.
Mr. Ward came up with a bowl of noodles in his hands.
“Young master, you had a long journey. Have some dinner.”
“Lost my appetite.” Putting down the beer in his hand, Jack’s asked, “Mr. Ward, do you feel Brent seems off after the assault yesterday?”
“Like he was fidgety?” Mr. Ward replied.
“You noticed that too?”
Placing his hands behind his head, Jack lied down on the recliner, “Even though he managed to hide it well, I just feel he was being restless in the way he behaved. Not the Brent I used to know.”
“Maybe he found something.” Mr. Ward smiled, “But we’re back here now. If anything were to come up, we wouldn’t be as helpless as we were yesterday.”
“You’re right. There must be a reason Brent didn’t open up. Like what my dad said, you can’t run away from what’s coming.”
Jack smiled and sank into contemplation.
“Young master, what are you going to do next?”
Stretching his back, Mr. Ward leaned on the chair, “It’s a bit quiet here at home.”
“You’re asking me about Amber?”
Jack finally understood and smiled, “I want to go find her tomorrow. Even thought this was a misunderstanding, it was still my fault.”
“How was it your fault?”
Mr. Ward was a bit surprised, “I just wanted to remind you to settle this as soon as possible, not trying to debate about who’s at fault here.”
“As long as tears roll down her face, it’s my fault.” Jack shrugged and remarked in self blame, “I promised her happiness but made her cry, wasn’t that sinful enough?”
Mr. Ward gave Jack a long look.
After a while.
He said slowly, “I’ll take care of everything here while you’re away. I hope everything goes well and you manage to bring her back.”
Jack smiled while watching Mr. Ward left.
It should be day time at Amber’s side right now.
Jack took out his phone and made a call to Amber.
The call was hung up after just one ring.
Jack was not surprised. This was the same result as the past dozen calls he made to Amber.
He sent Amber a text: I’m wrong, my wife.
After a long wait, there was no reply.
Jack wasn’t dismayed. Placing his hands behind his head while looking into the night sky, he uttered, “I’ll be by your side tomorrow, Amber.”
On the other side of the ocean.
It was in the morning.
Frowning, Rosie looked at Amber and the phone lying by her side.
“Phone call and text message from Jack?”
With a pair of dim eyes on her expressionless face, Amber said, “I’m not going to reply.”
“But I really feel you guys should talk.”
Rosie said in a soft and calm voice, “No matter who’s right or wrong in this case, you guys should really talk this out. It’s not good for you both to have cold war like this.”
“Mom…”
Just as Amber grew impatient and was about to reply, her expression suddenly changed.
She hurriedly got up and rushed to the toilet, then tried to vomit by the toilet bowl out of reflex.
Rosie hurriedly followed her in and patted her on the back.
After a while, Amber was exhausted and sat on the floor with a pale face. Her eyes turned red and teary.
Lowering her head to look at her bulging abdomen, she suddenly ranted.
“Can’t you be more considerate? Even you want to cause me pain now?”
“What are you talking about, Amber?”
Rosie put on a stern face, “It’s normal to vomit during pregnancy, don’t blame it on the baby.”
Amber started to vomit after she got back here. Only people who had experienced this could empathize with this pain.
Which was why Rosie felt bad for her daughter, seeing what she was going through.
She was dealing with immense pressure both physically and mentally from the vomit and the incident with Jack. That was why Rosie wanted her to talk things out with Jack.
She couldn’t bear to see all these things continue to torture her daughter.
“Mom, I’m in so much pain.”
With tears rolling down her cheeks, Amber fell into Rosie’s arms, “If this happens in the past, Jack would’ve come find me already by now.”
