Chapter 40

Sophie opens her eyes slowly to a very dark room. She could see nothing and she felt the right side of her head pound with immense pain as if she hit her head on something. She couldn’t move her hands and feet because they were tied. She struggled to keep her eyes open as tiredness hit her fully.
Her heart beats so fast it almost flew out of her chest as she tried to figure out her situation. She lifted her head slowly while moaning softly in pain.
Suddenly, she heard a click as light flooded the room. The light was too bright and she had to close her eyes because of the pounding headache she instantly got because of the light. Everything she was trying to remember suddenly flew to her head immediately after she closed her eyes.
She could remember the moment Chris and she was trying to say never-ending goodbyes while trying not to devour each other at the penthouse to the moment his driver dropped her at school. She was coming back from the professor’s office after turning in her assignments eager to meet Chris because he had promised to pick her up immediately after he comes back to Matilda’s house with Liya.
Then suddenly a tinted car parked beside her and two men she had no idea whoever they have shoved her aggressively inside the car and at the moment of struggling she hit her head on the car door. That was when she passed out and couldn’t remember what happened afterward.
She started panicking as she thought about the worst. What if they wanted to kill her or worse sell her into slavery or prostitution? Yes, it hardly happens but it does. Or worse they may be the people her father was owing before she cut all ties with him at the hospital. Her heartbeat sped as she remembered what they did to her brother. Those people are evil itself and she has first-hand experience of what they are capable of.
Two slim men entered the room without saying a word to her. They were both holding a gun and they are probably more armed than that. She swallowed hard trying and failing to calm her heartbeat that is now louder than EDM music in a club.
” You think she is awake?” The first with a voice rougher than gravel said to the other one. He shrugged his shoulder and stared at Sophie for a while before standing a little bit straighter than before. He said nothing and that managed to put a reasonable amount of fear inside her. The way his cold blue eyes stared at her felt so wrong in many ways. She said nothing but continue to watch her surroundings hoping that a miracle will and she will finally get an answer.
” Why is she not talking? She is awake right?” The first man asked his partner again.
” You have eyes Jack. She is awake” his partner said with a dry tone still seizing Sophie up and down with his cold stare.
” Is this not the moment where she yells “Help me!” ” Somebody help” ” Who are you? And why am I here?” Jack yelled in a ridiculously high pitch to sound like a girl while their partner just shook his head without a word. Probably annoyed with how loud he was.
” Sorry, he is just just a fool,” The one who is not Jack told Sophie while rolling his eyes. She tried to wonder what was going on between the two but her headache was killing her. She wonder if she could ask them for painkillers or something. Even though they kidnapped her, the least they could do is to treat her like a human being. But that thought flew away when the dirt opened and another man entered the room.
His stature looks eerily familiar like she knew the person. Even the way he walks reminded her of someone but she couldn’t place her head on who he was.
” Hello Sophie” He spoke out and immediately Sophie forgot her panic or the pounding headache in her head. All previous emotions were replaced with shock. Her green eyes widened as they turned a shade darker. The shock was replaced by anger in seconds.
” How dare you?!” She croaked out angrily meaning to sound harsher than that but her headache drew her back. Her stormy green eyes mirrored his as she stared at him with the most disdainful expression ever.
” You are really in no position to say that you know,” He said with an annoying smirk that Sophie felt like wiping off with a resounding slap. She has never hated anyone like that ever since she started feeling emotions. But apart from the hatred she has for this man in front of her, She was also heartbroken and very hurt at what he did and what he was doing to her.
How could someone she grew to love all her life even with all his imperfections and who was supposed to protect her with his everything be the one person that puts her in grave danger all because of what? She never wanted anything more in her life than to hear that reason from him.
” You will watch your mouth and follow all my instructions if you want to walk out of here alive” He threatened but she remained unfazed by his threats. She blinked back the tears threatening to escape her eyes.
” But why?” She cried out but coughed immediately due to her hurting throat. But she ignore her throat, that was not the issue at the moment. She just wants to know why all of this is happening and why he is the one behind everything.
” Money” He replied taking a seat on the chair in front of her. He took a pack of cigarettes out of his pocket and lit it. He took a long drag before puffing it in the air. Like he was enjoying her pain.
” Money? Why will you kidnap me because of money? I don’t even have money” She spat out and followed with a light chuckle that was laced with pain.
” Nah.. you don’t but your sugar daddy has more than enough” He replied with a shrug of his shoulder and another puff of his cigarette as if he was stating an obvious fact. She let out a chuckle at his response but disgust was written all over her face at his behavior.
” what is funny? Once he hears his little plaything is in danger, he will start dropping the cash” He added but she continued laughing at him which riled him up faster.
” I mean nothing to him. Just another plaything I guess so you won’t get a dime” She stopped laughing and said with a very cold voice to mask her bluffing. But she doubt if he took her words seriously at all.
” I’ve seen enough of your little love expression and his language to you to know you are more than a plaything”
” Did you forget your glasses when you saw all this or you were just seeing things?” She tried to shrug her shoulders but unfortunately, her arms were tied tightly so she couldn’t.
” if you don’t watch that mouth of yours, I’ll make sure I send you back to him limb by limb” He threatened angrily.
” Do it! Give me a detailed explanation of what type of a father you are by doing that! Just end me here! You fucking Coward!” She yelled at him matching his stormy green eyes with hers. He stood up angrily and walked two steps away but he came back to give her a resounding slap right where she had hit her head on the car door earlier.
She gasped in both pain and shock as she felt her eyes closing once again.
