” Wait a minute Fifi pinch me if I’m wrong, He left you after your first night together? Without a word?!” Kayla said weirdly wriggling her fingers. Max looked as if he just saw a puppy die. The three of them are currently inside Sophie’s room with a bowl of roasted peanuts in front of them.
Max had followed her home from work because she looked pale and sad. They met Kayla in the room, already in her pajamas with the bowl of peanuts in front of her. They both joined her but Sophie’s mood was still off so Kayla forced her to spill which she did.
Kayla swallowed hard still blinking at the silence in the room.
” Why is the pinch not coming? Sophie? Jesus Christ on a freaking power bike! I’m going to kill him!” Kayla screeched standing up but Max dragged her to sit down again with one arm.
” Stop, You are being too dramatic right now. You are not helping the situation. Besides we have no idea what happened with him. Until Sophie can reach him and have a proper conversation with him then we can conclude” Max reasoned and Sophie nodded agreeing with him.
” But what is the money for? You can’t just send a girl money after taking her virginity! That’s disrespectful” Kayla argued swatting Max’s hand away from her clothes.
” Come on Kay. Is he, not her Sugar Daddy? This situation is not supposed to be an issue in the first place. Fifi dear, I’m sorry but I need to say this. You shouldn’t have attached any feelings to this relationship” Max said and the room went quiet for the thousandth time in that evening.
” I didn’t attach any feelings.” She denied looking away. Max and Kayla exchanged a knowing look.
” Girl, I’m with Max on this one. I think you might have a little crush on Chris and you wanted more and it hurts to see him just treating you like the deal entails” Kayla said with a calm voice making Sophie shake her head in denial but deep inside her, she knew she feels more for Chris than a simple crush. That man was like opium to her and she is addicted after taking him in just once.
” Listen I don’t have a crush on Chris. I just thought it was rude to treat me like that. Even local prostitutes get to say bye to their visitors” Sophie said looking at everywhere in the room but them.
” If that is how it is then, we don’t have to argue. But what do we do with his ex-wife becoming a nuisance in your quiet life?” Max said deviating from the subject on the ground.
” Yeah. That woman is a psycho, she might be capable of doing anything. Wait don’t you have any of Chris’s friend’s phone numbers? Maybe you can reach him faster?” Kayla asked and the lightbulb went on in Sophie’s head. She grabbed her phone and scroll through her contact list but found nothing. She stood up making her way to the wardrobe, she sat down on the floor rummaging through the boxes of clothes that Chris bought for her from Martin’s store.
” Jeez, I didn’t even think about that. I should have Martin’s business card somewhere around here I think. Why didn’t I collect Liam’s number” She ran her hands through her hair in frustration.
” Look at her, she is hopelessly in love with Chris” Kayla whispered to Max who shared a knowing look with her. Sophie heard and she suddenly snapped.
” I’m not in love with him. I just want to reach him so his wife can get the fuck out of my life” She snapped and she continued with her search. She found one of Martin’s business cards and quickly typed his number on her phone. She dialed it twice before he picked up at the third ring. She took a deep breath before opening her mouth to talk.
” Hi Martin, this is Sophie,” She said calmly waiting for him to reply.
” Sophie? Ohhh girl how are you?” He asked in his usual cheery voice.
” I’m fine I guess.” She said Martin let out a soft chuckle at her reply.
” Sorry for calling you out of the blue Martin. The thing is, I’ve not been able to reach Chris since morning and I have been really worried about him” She could hear Martin sigh at the other end of the line, her heart sank in her stomach.
” I don’t know right now Sophie. I thought you guys went to the event yesterday together?” Martin asked in a confused tone.
” Yes we did, but I couldn’t reach him after the party. His number is not going through” She answered with a very worried tone.
” Well, If his number is not going through then that means he may be out of the country at the moment. You know he is a very busy person. That jerk! I don’t know why he didn’t tell you before leaving. Maybe you should call Liam, he will know more. Sorry, I have to attend to someone now bye” Martin said and hung up before she could ask for Liam’s phone number.
She sighed and turned back to her friends who have already finished the bowl of peanuts looking at her with guilty faces. She dropped her phone on the bed, plopping herself on the floor with a sullen look on her face.
” Come on, you don’t have to look that way because of him. there are many fishes in the sea” Kayla said gulping down the glass of water Sophie got for herself earlier.
” Yeah, you would know. Given the amount of the fishes you fucked already” Max said rolling his eyes at Kayla’s statement.
” Wow that burns” and so it started a new drama between both of them. Sophie tried to tune them out as fast as possible. The heated argument both of them are currently having is something Sophie doesn’t need and tried to avoid at all costs. But that feat is not possible, she is in the same with the screaming idiots she called her friends.
” Can you guys just shut the fuck up?” Sophie yelled and the room went silent.
” One minute you are trying to fuck each other and another minute you are biting each other’s heads off. Please I need this moment of silence” she continued grumpily. Pushing every word out from the bottom of her frustration.
Both parties remain silent and Sophie went back to her thinking. The room was filled with another choking measurement of awkward silence once again. Max started watching a movie on his phone while Kayla hissed and opened her social media. She has not even scrolled that much until she found a post that made her scream.
” What the fuck is it again?” Sophie scowled turning to look at Kayla.
” Oh my goodness! You don’t want to see this Sophie” Kayla said passing the phone to Max instead who covered his mouth in shock after seeing the content of the post.
Sophie shrugged her shoulders as if she doesn’t really care about what they were on about and faced her corner of the room again. But in one swift cunning movement, she turned again and snatched the Phone out of Max’s hand. She ran to the bathroom before they could even think of stopping her.
She gasped in shock, seeing the content of the post. The room spun around her, reading further, she had to cover her mouth to muffle a scream. The post has over ten thousand views and comments already. And one thing she failed to understand is why someone would decide to do that to her.
