After a long conference meeting with the shareholders of the company. He entered his office looking very pissed. One of the old men was questioning his authority as the CEO of the company again. Even after pleasing them for ten years. Saving the company from bankruptcy. One annoying supposedly experienced old man still feels like he wasn’t worthy enough because he didn’t give room for them to launder his money like they did to his father. Bunch of old fools, he would like to see them try and take his sweat away from him.
As he sat on his chair, his phone rang displaying his mother’s name. He took a few breaths before answering the call.
” And best son of the year goes to my son who never calls his mother no matter what,” His mother said immediately after he picked up the call.
” But I pick up your calls always and by always I mean like thirteen times within twenty-four hours” He exaggerated with a smile, he could hear her gasp dramatically. his mother calls him many times a day for him to think about giving her a call at all. She has been like that ever since the death of his father. She calls him that much to remind herself that she is not alone in this world. And when he divorced his wife, she was really happy to have her granddaughter live with her.
” No I don’t bombard you with phone calls” she denied and his smile grew wider, she will never admit it.
” I know right? And lately, you have been using my daughter as an excuse to assault my call logs”
” what can I do? That girl loves her father. It’s not my fault she misses you as much as I do” The woman cooed and Chris managed to forget everything that happened in the last hour.
” And she missed me during school hours too?” he said cockily knowing he won that argument. There is no way his mother can get out of this now.
” Okay, I just missed you. Since you never come around, this is the only way I can be close to my only son” she said and they both laughed and exchange normal pleasantries which included Chris asking about his daughter’s welfare even though he spoke to her a day before.
” I called you to remind you about the charity event,” His mother said with a serious tone different from the playful manner she started the conversation.
” I remember Mother, it’s in two days right?” he said relaxing more.
” Yes are you bringing a date?” she asked excitedly.
” Ma, my divorce is less than a week. I can’t just find a woman that easily” He deadpanned.
” Mother knows everything,” His mother said in a singsong manner. Clicking her tongue she hummed a song while he wondered what exactly she knew.
” We both know bringing a date is not possible” He sighed, the corner of his lips twitching. He knew his mother knows something but he has been discreet with Sophie as possible as he can.
” I spoke to Martin”
” oh”
” And Liam”
” hmm”
” And I want to meet her”
Give it to his two friends to snitch on him to his mother. He didn’t even tell them about any prospects of a relationship between him and Sophie. Those two and not know how to keep their mouth shut around his mother.
” Mom, there is no her anywhere. Even if there’s her somewhere. It’s too soon to meet her” He tried to persuade her but she just laughed getting what she wants from him already.
” so there is her?” he could hear her full smile on the other side. He shook his head, leaving it to Gabriella Morgan to be an overbearing smother. Alex entered the office with Liam trailing behind him looking kind of moody which is so different from his usual playful demeanor.
” I didn’t say that Ma. Can I call you back? We’ll discuss this later” he said dropping his phone. Almost relieved that his secretary came at the right time. And the reason why he was in such a cringe situation was in front of him looking like a wet puppy.
Alex left a document on the table for him before stepping back.
” This is the new proposal from Morningstar Electronics. They made some changes already. They are waiting for your reply” Alex said before exiting the office leaving both friends alone.
” I guess something finally kept your mouth shut for once,” Chris said to his friend not looking up from the document he was reviewing.
” You know there’s nothing wrong with my mouth” Liam sighed taking a seat on one of the sofa in Chris’s office.
” Oh, I guess it was a bit loose then. Because I don’t see the reason why you will tell my mother about a girl I met less than a week ago” He said looking up to see Liam make an ohh sound.
” You know no one can resist your mother’s apple pie and her smothering Abilities”
Chris shook his head, so all he took for his friend was a plate of apple pie to snitch on him. He finally stood up from his chair and went to join Liam on the couch. If he thought Liam looked like a wet puppy before. He just confirmed it with his appearance. Liam looked like a train wreck as if he was run over by a train. Spotting bags under his eyes and a few pimples on his forehead. Liam would always panic if he ever saw one pimple on his face, he love his skin more than anything in this world.
” Dude, what happened to you?” Chris asked, concern evident in his voice.
” I may or may not have knocked a girl up,” Liam said with an expression that looked like he is going to cry soon. While Chris loved the idea of family and kids, Liam feared it the most. His family was never perfect so always he doesn’t have much love to give since his parents never gave him much of it.
” What a scary way to keep your running mouth shut. Probably your pants too” Chris said sarcastically nodding his head amusingly. It was meant to happen one day or the other. Liam has never kept it in his pants.
” Chris this is not funny, I’m in a situation here” Liam cried out much to Chris’s amusement.
” I can see. So who is this girl? And how did it happen?” Chris said pursing his lips in thin lines.
” how else would it happen? We had sex of course. It was a one-night stand and I don’t know how the condom broke” Liam looked like he was about to cry anytime soon.
” A one-night stand? Wow, nice. Do what’s going to happen now?”
” I don’t know. I’m not ready to be a father and she has a boyfriend” Liam said.
” You did a background check?” Chris asked now listening to his friend attentively.
” of course I did. They have been dating for three years, I’m not even sure if the baby is mine but if it ends up being mine then I’m fucked” Liam threw his hands up in frustration.
” Then you have to calm down till she gives birth to know if the baby is yours or not. It might be her boyfriend’s. All these might be a full-time cash-out plan” Chris stated looking at the scenario from another angle.
” You are right. I thought about the prospect but when I found out her boyfriend went on a trip four months ago. A month before she met me, I shouldn’t have done a full and deeper background check at least I won’t have all this information.” He explained and Chris sighed. This situation is more complicated than he thought.
” All you have to do is be calm and we’ll handle this after the charity event. No one should something is wrong and you look like might give the media some suspicion” Chris said calmly and Liam sighed again.
” I’ve just been really worried about the entire situation” Liam sighed again for the umpteenth time in that office.
” I know. And you don’t need to be, everything will be solved by a DNA test” Chris said going back to his chair.
“And what if it’s mine?” Liam asked.
