“It’s not necessary for me to prove it. Mr. Mo, you know very well in your heart. You are a grown-up, if we talk too much, you will think we are preaching. Let’s just make it simple. You come to our hospital and our medical staff provide you with treatments and services. To put it bluntly, it’s just a relationship of cooperation and mutual benefits. You should restrain your personal emotions a bit, and don’t make trouble for each other.”
Lorin sneers, “Yaffe Qin, what qualifications do you have to talk to me like this? Marring Quinn He? Do you really think that he would be your backer?”
She is slightly surprised that he could recognize her, but this tiny thought is quickly thrown aside by her, “What you said may be right. If I don’t have my husband to back me up, I might really dare not talk to you so presumptuously.”
“You are too proud of yourself too early.”
“I have nothing to be proud of.” Yaffe sits on the chair next to Lorin’s bed, “Now let’s talk about things you should know during the period of recuperation.”
“You are not qualified to talk with me.”
“I certainly don’t have qualifications to talk with you. But in order to make you recover sooner and not to plague my colleagues, I’m here to talk with you brazenly.”
“Do you want to assert yourself in front of Dean?”
“Kind of. Another reason is that you are an actor that both I and my mother admire. I don’t want to see you defying yourself like this. It’s indeed unlucky to get hurt, but your interpersonal network is resourceful enough for you to get the expert who knows what’s the best for your recovery after your injury, and I’m happy for you. If you follow the doctor’s instructions, many wounds could have been healed and you could have been long discharged. But you are resisting it at the price of your own body. Do you think it is a good thing for you?” Yaffe knows her words are a little bit too much, and may not work necessarily.
She believes his team would say the same thing to him every day, he would not care.
She’s too confident in herself.
Hearing her words, Lorin stares at her fixedly with his sharp eyes, “Do you really think so?”
“Yes.” Yaffe gives a relaxed and light smile after noticing that Lorin actually intends to talk rather than getting angry. “I watched your movies when I was in the first year of my graduate school. My mom recommended The Book of Jin to me, saying that the actor was stunning. Back at that time, I was going through one of the biggest setbacks in my life and my condition was so bad. My advisor was not optimistic about me and even wanted to dissuade me from school. I felt like my whole life was gloomy and watched your movie for the first time in order to kill my time.”
Lorin doesn’t expect her to say this and waits for her to continue.
The Book of Jin is his first work in the real sense. Though he acted as a supporting role, it paved the way for his career.
“After watching it, I felt like there were still many beautiful things in this world. It has created a perfect character like you, given you enough intelligence and an appropriate stage, brought you into in front of more people, making countless people crazy for you and influenced by you. Many people fall for your beauty at first, but your persistence of performance and your unceasing efforts to improve your acting skills are what conquer them for long. You might not care whether it will leave scars on your face, but I hope it won’t and you could keep your perfection.” Yaffe stops after such a long speech.
She hasn’t binge-watched his works like his fans and rarely keeps a close eye on him.
All she knows is what pops up frequently on the entertainment news.
“You are saying this because of Quinn, aren’t you?”
“Quinn? What does this have to do with my husband?” She asked in confusion.
Lorin doesn’t move his eyes away, staring closely at her face. He doesn’t miss any slightest expressions on her face and finds that she has no chance of faking it.
Lorin leans forward and moves closer to Yaffe’s face.
She dodges backwards slightly.
With his face half covered with gauze, he displays a sexy and enchanting smile, “The investor in the movie this time is Golden Media, which is a subsidiary of the Hersh Group. Don’t you know that?”
“I’m not familiar with my husband’s line of business, and I don’t do business, so I don’t know much.” She says calmly.
Lorin nods knowingly.
Seeing that he’s in a stable mood, Yaffe says, “I’ll let the nurse to help you change the dressing then. You are a public figure and your face and your body are not only yours. It’s more than anything else for you to heal your wounds first.”
“Get them in.”
“Sure.” Yaffe stands up and walks towards the door, calling the nurse outside.
The nurse hurries in with the medicine.
Lorin looks at Yaffe and says, “You change it for me.”
Yaffe says, “I’m not familiar with your wounds. If not done properly, it may leave scars easily.”
He snorts and lets the nurse change the dressing for him.
Yaffe helps on the side.
He glances at her wrist casually and his eyes suddenly fixed on it. He grabs her wrist right away.
Both Yaffe and the nurse are taken aback by his sudden move.
Yaffe twists her hand but finds Lorin’s hand is gripping her wrist tightly like a hawkbill.
She can’t withdraw her hand from him at all.
His finger slowly strokes a mole on the inner side of her wrist, “Who are you?”
Yaffe looks at his gloomy face in confusion, looking down at where his finger touches, “Don’t tell me that you have a sister or your girlfriend has a mole on the same place. It’s too dramatic.”
She has a small mole on the inner side of her wrist, which she thinks it’s sexy and cute. When she’s bored, she will admire herself with a guilty pleasure.
If someone else has the same mole, she will not feel the same any longer.
Hearing her words, Lorin lets go of her hand and leans back on the bed, letting the nurse continue to change the dressing for him.
**
When Yaffe returns to the office from Lorin’s ward, Sabrina is already inside.
Sabrina asks, “What happened to your hand, Yaffe?”
“A patient was quite emotional and I got scratched by him. Have you made your decision now?”
“Yes.”
Yaffe nods and takes a drink.
Sabrina continues, “I want to keep it.”
Yaffe is choked by the water. She pounds her chest for a while and says, “Cough cough, are you serious?”
“Yeah.” Sabrina looks at her calmly.
“What are you going to say to your family?”
“I haven’t thought about it yet.”
“Sabrina, you are too impulsive.”
“I know. But I don’t want to lose the child. If I miss it this time, I might have no other chance to have a second child for the rest of my life.”
“I don’t agree with you. If I love someone, I’ll run to him and try every means to tell him that I love him instead of proving it like what you do. There’s even a life involved. Have you realized that?” Yaffe feels her mouth dry and a bit thirsty after saying it.
She talks too much today, and all her words are heartfelt.
