Samson grinned, happy that she was enjoying this. Maybe this would actually work. She could handle being a vampire and stay with him. He didn’t have much time to entertain his thoughts, because Isabella came up with one crazy idea.
“Hey” she said, let’s make this even more fun. Catch me if you can?” she added, and lifted her eyebrows in a funny way.
Samson couldn’t even remember the last time he played. Hell, it sounded like such a silly thing to do now and he wasn’t even sure he remembered how to, so he shook his head.
“Nah, hell no” he replied as he searched his head for an excuse. “We are not going to do that. We can’t vamp speed all over the road. Someone might see us”
“Isn’t that the reason why we came out to this lonely place?” Isabella asked looking around. “There is no one out here and if you are worried about someone seeing us, we can just go into the woods. Come on, just because you are old doesn’t mean you have to act like an old man”
The teasing worked.
“I’m not old” Samson said.
“Yeah right” replied Isabella, rolling her eyes and being overly obnoxious. “I can remember you telling me that you were once or twice. Anyway, if you ain’t so old, then why won’t you come after me? Afraid I might out run you?”
Samson could help but laugh. She had to be kidding. “Look, another thing you should know. Older vampires are stronger and faster. It’s not a good thing to challenge an older vampire. I am way older than you so there’s no way you are gonna be faster than me. It’s ridiculous that you even mention it”
Isabella knew that he was right, but she was having way too much fun teasing him that it was hard to stop. “Well then prove it” Isabella said and without waiting for a reply, she went into the woods, using her new vamp speed ability.
Samson knew that he didn’t even need to look for her. He was way faster and even her scent would even give her away. But hey, he wasn’t the one who turned this whole thing into a competition. Besides, he wasn’t the kind of person to back down from a challenge, and how dare she call him old. He would make her take it back. He went after her, brushing past the trees and it didn’t take long to find her. He grabbed her waist and they both fell on the ground. Isabella was laughing so hard, not minding the dirt on her clothes and skin one bit.
“That’s not fair” she said, as her laughter turned into coughs. “That’s not fair Samson. You should have given me a head start. You are such an asshole.”
Samson couldn’t help but laugh at her accusation. He couldn’t even remember the last time he played like this, he thought as he held her. She was trying to stand but he wouldn’t let her. She struggled, but ended up covering herself in more dirt. She gave up finally, lying on her back in the sand with him hovering on top of her. She tried to look pissed, but she couldn’t and ended up smiling sheepishly at him, and he could see that she was a little embarrassed by the color in her cheeks.
“I did give you a head start” he said, “You took off before I did. Besides I wasn’t the one who asked for this, you wanted to prove how fast you were and now here we are. You are the fastest”
Isabella shook her head. “But you know there was no way I could have beaten you. You should have given me more time”
“So now you admit that I’m faster?” he said her, “A few minutes ago you didn’t.”
“Get off me. You are such a big Bully”
Samson chuckled, but he did get up and give her a hand, then he stood and watched her try to get the dirt off her clothes with a smile on his face.
“We left the crossbows in the car” he said, “I will rush back and get it”
He hurried out and soon he returned with one of the crossbows and a stake. Isabella stared at the items.
“I knew the plan was to kill me” she said.
Samson didn’t reply, but instead he grinned, drooped the stake and took several steps away from her. He raised his voice slightly, “another good thing about being fast is that we have very quick reflexes. For example, you should catch this… Because you can..”
He aimed the crossbow at her and Isabella panicked a little. “Hey, what are you doing?” she asked, lifting a hand up.
“Catch the arrow” Samson replied simply, and before she could say anything else, he shot the arrow at her.
Isabella screamed as the arrow came flying at her, but somehow, she wasn’t sure how, but somehow she caught the arrow, but she saw that it was just few inches from her neck. Had she hesitated for a second, the arrow would have pierced her.
She couldn’t believe it. She dropped the arrow and it landed soundlessly on the sand.
“What the hell” she screamed. “What the hell did you do that for? That arrow could have killed me”
“No it wouldn’t. I wasn’t aiming for your heart” Samson replied and shot another which she caught too.
“Stop it Samson” Isabella yelled, but instead he shot another. She caught that too and began to laugh. Being a vampire was awesome, she thought. It was scary and thrilling all at the same time and she couldn’t believe all the amazing things she was capable of doing. Samson was about to shoot another arrow, but instead of staying to catch it, she moved away. The arrow got stuck in a tree, and before he could bring down crossbow, she vamp speed towards him, pushing and trapping him on one of the trees.
“How is that for quick reflexes, huh?” she asked.
Samson smiled. He had to admit that she had taken him by surprise.
“That’s good” he said, “When you are in a fight, you have to think and act fast. You have to try to figure out your opponents next move real quick so you can beat them. You have to take them by surprise.”
“Like I did just now?” she asked
Samson nodded. “Yes. Like you did now”
