For all he knew, George might already be dead. He couldn’t bear the thought of the same thing happening to Isabella. “Could you please just do what I say? Besides you weren’t so interested in calling the police when you got attacked and I told you that I was going to take care of it? Why is it so different this time”
Isabella gasped in surprise. She honestly couldn’t believe that Samson was saying these words. “That’s a totally different situation and you know it”
“Really?” he asked, glaring at her, “What makes it so different”
Isabella couldn’t take the tone of his voice anymore. The man was totally crazy. She knew that now and she blamed herself. She should have known that this relationship was too good and too perfect to be true.
“I’m leaving, Samson.” she said, “Do whatever the fuck you want”
He wouldn’t let her through and blocked her path. “You are not leaving, Belle” he said through clenched teeth. “Not now, and definitely not like this. I don’t want you to get Hurt, damn it. I fear that someone is going after the people that I care about and I’m afraid that you might be next. I don’t want to loose you Belle. I know that we haven’t known each other for long and it’s too early for this but I care about you so Damm much and if anything happened to you… ” The words seemed stuck in his throat.”If anything happened to you… I have no idea what I’m going to do…. So just stay. Please. Do it for me”
Isabella stared at Samson, wondering if she should listen to her stupid heart which was telling her to stay and trust him, or to do what her brain was telling her and run before things got way out of hand. But she had been following her heart for a while now, and look where it got her. It was time for her to start thinking for real.
“You are right” she said slowly, “We don’t really know each other. I honestly don’t know anything about you. So tell me one thing. One thing about you that I’m supposed to know and I don’t”
Samson breathed deeply and paced the room, his left hand on his forehead. Isabella didn’t move, she just stood and watched him, asking herself what he could be thinking. What was going on? Why was this so hard for him? He stopped suddenly and faced her, but he didn’t come close to her.
“Don’t make me lie to you, Belle” he said. “Please. I don’t want to lie to you so don’t make me”
“Then don’t lie” she said simply.
He crossed the room in two strides and grabbed her arms. He shook her slightly, as if hoping that he could shake some sense into her.
“It’s not that easy. You would hate me” he said stiffly, and his jaw hardened. “You would be so scared of me that you wouldn’t even want to be in the same room with me. Is that what you want? The last thing I want is to see you look at me that way”
“What way” Isabella said, trying hard to stay calm and keep her voice on a normal level. She was trying so hard not to freak out and it wasn’t easy because damn was she freaking out.
“I can hear your heart beating” he said, as if she hadn’t spoken. “It’s beating very fast because you are afraid and honestly there’s no need to be”
Isabella shrugged his hands off her arms. “Well that’s because you are scaring the crap out of me. I want you to tell me something meaningful about yourself right now, or I’m leaving. I mean it Samson”
He breathed deeply, as if preparing himself for a really hard task. “I’m a lot older than you think I am, Belle” he said.
That was it? Belle thought. That was his big secret? She was done with this. The man was clearly messing with her and was never going to tell her anything about himself. Well, he could take his secrets and keep them to himself.
“Go to hell Samson. I’m done with this” She moved towards the door, but his next words halted her.
“The guy who attacked you before. That night we met, I confronted him and now I think he’s the one who has my friend. I have to go get him back before something horrible happens to him”
Isabella turned around. “If that’s the case, then why won’t you call the police. You already know where to look. You have a suspect. Why do you have to go by yourself?”
“Because the police can’t do anything. They can’t help because… Because the guy… Jacob is his name. He’s a vampire and the police can’t do anything to him”
Did he just say vampire? The guy had to be crazy. Isabella thought. She had been dating and sleeping with a crazy person and it was her fault for getting involved with a man she barely knew. “A vampire?” she repeated, and Samson nodded. “Like in the movies? With fangs and supernatural powers and all that shit”
Samson nodded again, watching her closely, wondering what her next move was going to be.
“And how do you know this?” came her next question.
This was the part he dreaded. The part where he would tell her the truth and she would hate him instantly and try to get away from him. The part where everything he had with her would fall apart. He sighed deeply.
“I know because…. Because I am one too.. I’m a vampire Belle”
This had to be some sort of sick joke. Isabella thought. She had heard of vampires. Seen them in movies and read about them, but she definitely didn’t believe that they existed and now she was standing in front of someone who claimed to be one. This was a new level of crazy.
“Am I really supposed to believe you right now?” she asked, “Are you just messing with me? Do I look like I want to be messed with right now?”
“I’m not kidding around. I’m serious” Samson replied. “I can’t believe that I’m telling you this. I could easily make you do what I want you to do, but I care about you. I don’t know why I do, but if this… If this thing between us is what I suspect it is, then I don’t want it to be built on lies and deceit. I want it to be real. So maybe this will make you believe me “
