The trail of blood reminded him of the woman he had punished last night, where had she gone?
When he saw her limp body resting on her black satin hair, it was showing her weakness and tenderness, and further accentuating the pallor of her face. He couldn’t help but want to hug her, but he was suddenly reminded of Michelle’s death.
He kicked her off the bed against his will and watched she crawled away from the bedroom and leaving her virgin blood all the way.
His heart was feeling a little pain when he followed the drops of blood and found her, who had fallen in front of the couch.
She still had a breath, and ahead of hair lay quietly on her naked back but couldn’t cover the wounds. Her small face is still pale, and she wrinkled in pain, her red lips tightly pursed and it was partially covered by the black hair that has fallen.
The entire body showed helplessness and weakness and it made people hard to leave her alone.
Joshua was about to step out of her body, but he eventually turned back and covering her body with a thin blanket tightly.
“Sister, sister… “Abigail who was lying on the ground twisted her body uneasily, her eyebrows revealing her eagerness. She whispered and try to pull something with her small hand.
She opened her eyes as she was touching the thin blanket which was covering her body.
Where is this? Her thoughts flew, and painful memory came to her.
“Oh…” she exhaled softly, and her body was throbbing with pain.
The pain was a reminder of the misfortune she had experienced.
It would have been such a heavy blow to the unconscious eighteen-year-old girl, but what could she do? They are the ones who did wrong, aren’t they?
She was wiping tears from her face haphazardly, more tears were leaking between her fingers, it was a nightmare to her!
There was a voice sounded, and she heard that was the sound of her phone.
A phone call? It must be her sister!
Abigail was ignoring the immense pain in her body, she draped herself in a sheet, and followed the sound to the bathroom where she had showered yesterday. The cell phone fell in the corner which still flickering light and it noticed of the incoming call.
Luckily, it was not lost.
Abigail picked up the phone when she saw her sister’s phone number. She wiped away her tears quickly and pressed the answer button.
“Abigail, why do you just come to answer the phone? Are you okay, do they do anything to you?” Breslin asked her in worry, and Abigail endured her grief and tried to make her voice sound smoother.
“I’m fine, it’s fine, they don’t do anything to me, but they tell me to clean the house.”
“Really?” Breslin was not easy to be convinced. “Abigail, your voice sounds weird, did something happen? If there’s something happen you have to tell me.”
When Abigail heard this sentence, she couldn’t hold back her tears any longer, but she knew that she must not let Breslin know what happened here. “Nothing, just thinking about not seeing you for a long time and a bit sad. I’ve missed you.”
“Is that true?” Breslin didn’t believe at all, and Breslin sobbed at the other end also, “Abigail, come back, let me go, I should be responsible for this!”
“No!” Abigail stopped her words. Joshua Caunter was so cold-blooded and ruthless, if he knew that his sister was the one who hit his fiancée, he didn’t know will use what kind of way to treat Breslin. She couldn’t let her sister get involved in danger!
“Listen to me, forget about this, and then leave the country right now and study hard and finish your studies. If you still say something like that or don’t study hard, you’ll never see me again!”
“Abigail…” Breslin, who was always strong enough was whimpered. Abigail knew that Breslin must not be able to bear to let her suffer.
“I have to go to work, I won’t be able to see you for these three years, but I’ll keep an eye on you from time to time. So, you should not have other ideas in your mind!” Abigail was afraid that any further conversation would reveal the truth, and she hung up the phone hurriedly with a few warnings.
Abigail was holding the phone in her hands, but her face was filled with tears. She crouched in the corner and shrinking herself tightly…
Perhaps Joshua had told the maids, and soon the woman found her, and said coldly, “What’s the time now? Still don’t want to wake up and work?” Then she threw a set of maid’s uniforms in front of her and left.
Abigail cast a grateful glance at the woman’s and dressed as fast as she could. The pain in her body didn’t go away, and with each step she moved, her body felt like it was tearing, and it was hard to walk.
Two minutes walkway took her twenty minutes to get there.
In the living room, the cold-faced woman stood there, staring at Abigail, who had carefully walked down the stairs.
“Hi.” Abigail was greeting the woman.
“I’m the housekeeper here, you can call me Rowena from now on.” The woman looked at her with hostility in her eyes and spoke in a very cold tone.
“Nice to meet you, Rowena,” Abigail said softly.
“Mr. Caunter has ordered that you are now his maid, but you are responsible for cleaning the entire building when he’s not home!” Rowena said and not taking her seriously.
“Yes.” Abigail nodded obediently and took the cleaning tool from her hand.
Rowena murmured “There are plenty of women like this.”
“What?” Abigail looked at Rowena in puzzlement, she did not understand what she meant by that.
“What are you standing here for! Are you no need to work?” Rowena said with a stern face. By the time Abigail nodded, Rowena had turned and walked away. Her sturdy gait reflecting her crisp personality.
…
Joshua simply rinsed his body when he was returning from his morning jogging. He was not busy with the company today, so he had time to sit in the living room and enjoy the wine.
The red wine was rippled in the glass, and through the red liquid, a slender figure shrank at the stairs and slowly polishing the stairs. Her movements were slow, and each time she lifted her hand, it seemed to take a big effort. He had been here for a half-hour to sip his wine, but the girl had not lifted once and did not know he was there.
The strong sense of neglect irked him, and he stood up, seemingly unintentionally holding the glass, but his grip on it intensified.
He stepped toward her but was blocked by a shadow that suddenly intruded. “Mr. Caunter, the master wishes to meet with you.”
“Lambert, you’ve been quite bold lately!” The man blocked his sight, and it made his displeasure.
Lambert froze for a moment in puzzlement, and he stepped back to one side immediately and bowing his head in respect, “I’m sorry, Mr. Caunter.”
“I don’t want to see him.” Joshua declined and took a sip of his wine.
“Mr. Caunter, you had been called for the fourth time, if you don’t answer, I’m worried…” Lambert didn’t finish his sentence, just standing respectfully at Joshua’s side.
“You’re worried that he’ll contact the mafia again to mess with me?” The unconcerned question was the most correct answer, Lambert nodded.
A whisper came from Abigail’s lips as she accidentally bumped her arm into the staircase railing and she couldn’t help but cry out. When she saw Joshua was staring at her from downstairs, her body trembled and shrank inward.
She was afraid of him!
“Well, I am about to thank him as well.” Joshua withdrew his gaze, meaning to do so. He was finishing the cup of wine in one gulp and handed the cup to Lambert smoothly and led the way to stride up the stairs.
“How did Mr. Caunter… “Lambert did not expect Joshua to change his mind so fast and he could not help but ask.
“When do you become so talkative, Lambert?” Stopping at Abigail’s side, he stared at her body but rebuked the Lambert behind him.
“I’m sorry, Mr. Caunter.” Lambert bowed his head again and apologized.
“Remember, it’s better not to interfere with the matters between me and my father!” Joshua heaved, and his heavy breath even blew into Abigail’s head. Her body has trembled once again, and the movement of her hands also faltered.
“This….” Lambert looked at the two of them in puzzlement but eventually nodded respectfully as usual.
Were those words meant for her to hear? Joshua had carried his steps upstairs, and Abigail was frozen there and baffled. She and his father didn’t even know each other?
“Hurry up!” Rowena stared at her and instructed, and Abigail did not know when she’d arrived.
Abigail continued with her cleaning work without thinking much.
In the private conference room, Joshua was sitting on a black, high-end imported sofa, and he was staring at the middle-aged man in the screen lazily.
“May I ask what your order is?” The corners of his mouth quirked and a mocking smile hung on his face.
“What kind of tone and attitude is that I’m your father!” The middle-aged man on the screen had similar features to Joshua, but the face of the man was filled with anger and was quite unhappy with his son’s attitude.
“Tell me what’s the matter, I’m quite busy right now.” Joshua raised the remote control in his hand and showing to the man.
“You… ” the middle-aged man finally compromised. “Annie will be returning soon, and you must hold the wedding with her as soon as possible, as originally agreed, and if you can, you can even skip the engagement. I’ve already discussed it with her father…”
“You go ahead if you want, I don’t have a promise with him.” Joshua shook his head and replacing it with an unrestrained expression.
“You….” the middle-aged man was Joshua’s father. He was pounding the table to express his anger. “Don’t think that I don’t know that you’re dating an unidentified woman and you’ve talked about marriage, but I’m telling you, It is impossible for you, and I will never allow you to marry such a woman with no status.”
“You do it successfully,” Joshua said fiercely.
“What do you mean?”
“You sure know everything and thanks for sending me a virgin.” Joshua’s father still wanted to say something, but Joshua had already stood up and directly pressed off the remote control. The angry face on the screen immediately disappeared.
“Mr. Caunter…” with Lambert following behind him, Joshua hadn’t seen Abigail, and directly crossed over her side and walked down the stairs.
Joshua waved his hand elegantly and told Lambert, “No need to follow me, I need a date.” Then he walked away without looking back.
If it wasn’t for his odd personality, he was a very handsome man. Abigail sneaked a glance of Joshua’s back and thought silently, and she was trying to speed up the action at hand.
She stretched her arm and her small face wrinkled slightly. If it were a normal day, this kind of work wouldn’t make her tired at all, but last night, she had suffered so much that her whole body still ached, especially there…
Her head was a little dizzy, and she hadn’t eaten anything all morning. Perhaps this was the way Joshua intended to slowly torture her to death in hunger.
Rowena came and went several times to check her work progress without accusing her, but she also forgetting that Abigail also needed food.
The long staircase was shining under her careful polishing. These stairs which made of top-quality mahogany which looked comfortable and full of nobility.
At last, there were only left three stairs left, and Abigail stretched her arms, but she didn’t notice that Stacy was crept up behind her.
“Get out!” Stacy pulled Abigail’s shoulders back, and Abigail was falling and rolling three steps in a row under the effect of inertia, eventually, she was toppling over onto the ground.
