Tyler
I sat across Troy who was busy smiling at Jake like he was the only cotton candy remaining. I swear this man acts like a three year old sometimes.
I don’t know what is going on. Why did Jake call my mom his mom? Well, I won’t deny it, now that I look intensely at him I can see we do look alike a little than normal different people would look.
But what if he is my brother? My parents need to explain everything at this moment. I was getting impatient that they were still downstairs after ordering us to come upstairs for a family discussion.
I don’t know why Troy isn’t taking this seriously. I mean, our parents kept secrets from us about us having a brother, that is if Jake really is our brother or…
“Tyler, please stop taping your pen on the table, it’s getting annoying.” Trevor said shaking his head in disapproval. I wanted to continue and test his patience like I always do and we will end up in a playful wrestle, but today wasn’t the day, so I stopped.
“So Jake, where do you live?” Troy decided to ask to break the suffocating silence. I looked at Jake who was trying pretty hard not to look at my direction. This was the first time I even looked at him since we entered my office ten minutes ago.
“Hum… I lived in… uh… California with my adopted parents before moving here to New York.” Since when did Jake Jones shutter when he talks? I snort before looking away. But I didn’t miss the quick glance he sent my way.
“Do you really think our parents are your parents?” Trevor asked.
He looked at me with with a blank expression, I couldn’t tell what he was thinking in his mind. I raised a brow at him. Why is he acting nervous like I will shoot him? And we started to get alone at work already but not fully, because I think he and Techna are dating.
Speaking of Techna, that beautiful woman that is carrying my babies. I am still grieving my daughter’s death, and I wished she hadn’t died. I would even exchange my life for hers. I am going to kill those bastards that want to have everyone I love and those around me, killed.
“… are my parents. I have this…” Jake was interrupted by mother’s voice.
“Sorry for keeping you waiting boys. We had to tidy some business downstairs.”I snickered at the term ‘boys’
Dad raised a brow at me. “Mother, we aren’t boys anymore, right guys?” I looked at them daring them to say ‘no’.
Instead of ‘yes’ they nodded with stupid grins on their face. “Whatever, so…” Dad sat on my office chair while my mom sat on his lap. Oh please… it looks kind of gross seeing your old parents acting all lovey-dovey. They are in their late forties but still… you get what I mean.
“Mom, I don’t understand. How is Jake related to me? To us?” I asked impatient.
My mom sent me a glare “Well, we have been keeping a secret from you boys, I mean Ty, Troy and Trevor.” Mother looked at Dad and he nodded at her giving her a peck on the lips and she blushed.
“Gross.” We all said including Jake.
“What? I love your mother, so mind your own love life while I mind mine. “He playful glared at us. Unfortunately, I have no love life.
“So there is a story behind all this. Um… When I was pregnant, your father and I were so happy. The thing is that at that time, we had Trevor and he was only a year old, and we were still young. We weren’t even rich then. We were just the average type of family cause your father refused to take his father’s business. If he wanted to take over, he had to marry the daughter of his long time best friend.”
“But your father loved me and he decided to choose me over his father’s company. His father said that if he chooses me, he wasn’t going to take over his company and they would have no tie with him. Your father still chose me though.” My mother smiled at Dad and pecked his cheeks.
“We had to fend for ourselves, and your father had to come from England to America so he could borrow a loan from his uncle here to start his business. We moved here and I gave birth to Trevor here. But we didn’t get that loan on time and I was pregnant again. When we went for an ultrasound, I discovered we will be having…” She looked at each one of us as she was saying. “… triplets.” She said.
What?
“Mom, Troy and I were a triplet and you kept this from us? You never even mentioned it! So if Jake hadn’t been here, you would never had told us?! “I said a little angry with them. I glared at them and I saw my mother flinch. I can look scary sometimes when I am angry. My eyes softened, I didn’t want my mom to be afraid of me.
“Tyler, you have to calm down and listen, please.” My dad begged and I settled on the chair.
“We didn’t know how to do it. We had Trevor who was just one year old and triplets were on the way. So we decided to keep one out of you guys and the remaining two would be given up for adoption.” My mom continued.
“When I gave birth, your dad and I managed to take care of you guys until you were six months. We were already too broke. So we decided that when your father’s uncle borrows us the money and your father starts a business, we will try and take you back from your adopted parents. ”
“It was only Tyler that got to stay with us. Troy and Theo were given up for adoption and we were in contact with your adopted parents. When your dad’s business got better, we paid his uncle back his loan and the business income increased. Later, I started working as a personal assistant to a manager of a company. We were able to get a very good car with a good house. We decided to take you back as we agreed to do with the adopted parents. Lucky, we got Troy back, but when it got to Theo, he and his adopted parents weren’t in their house anymore.” I saw my mother’s eyes tear up a little.
“The neighbors told us they had relocated. We tried looking for them with private investigators but they hid very well. Then after a few years we heard they had died with Theo in a car accident. You wouldn’t believe how much I cried over him. He was my son and I didn’t get the chance to see him grow up. I guess those selfish people, no offense Jake…”
“None taken.” Jake said. I don’t really understand yet. Is Jake also Theo?
“I guess those people planned it and faked it so we will stop looking for them, and after a year of grieve of our son, we stopped looking.”
“So why didn’t you tell us about it?” I was surprised with Troy’s outburst. He was always the cheerful one.
“We were waiting for the right time, Troy.” It was my dad that answered now.
“So when would it have been the right time, huh? Never? Dad, Mom, you kept the fact that we had or have a brother from us. We are now twenty three years mom!” Troy stood up and hit the table. We all flinched.
