Mary pushed Norman away coldly and sat down further away from him, giving him the cold shoulder.
Norman’s eyes had a trace of laughter in them; this Miss Debeur was getting more and more interesting. This was probably for the best. Norman picked up the robe and sat down at the other side of the cave, his back comfortably resting on the wall of the cave. He then pulled out a velvet duvet and wrapped it around himself.
Mary opened her eyes open peaked at Norman’s actions, straining to cover up her shivering due to the cold cave.
Norman seemed to have noticed and spoke to himself, “This small tribute is truly exquisite. It’s thinner than robes but warmer than the thickest coat for blocking the wind. It’s just right for this kind of damp environment, neither too thin nor too thick.” He smirked as he looked at Mary wrapping her arms around her shivering body.
“Are you cold, Miss Debeur?” The smile in his eyes deepened as he looked at Mary teasingly.
Mary pretended to be asleep to ignore him. After a while, she could no longer bear the freezing temperature. She changed her pose and rubbed her arms, slowly getting up and inching towards Norman under the duvet.
Norman opened his eyes suddenly, startling Mary. He then flattened half of the duvet.
Mary pursed her lips and walked over flippantly like she was not embarrassed at all. It was like a coincidence that the duvet was just the size of their body combined together. Mary had no choice but to sit and lean against him, she turned her head and closed her eyes.
The blanket was indeed warm; Mary fell asleep in a short while.
Norman looked at Mary’s sleeping face, her fan-like lashes casting a shadow on her cheekbones, snow white complexion shine under the moonlight, her delicate body emitting a strange strength.
Retrieving from his thoughts, he closed his eyes and was about to go to sleep as well when he heard a rustling in the bushes. This sound was extremely creepy in this quiet environment.
The sound was moving closer and closer, Norman furrowed his brows, turned around and saw a black wolf staring at them with his hungry green eyes.
Deep in this valley, they never thought they would meet a hungry wolf. Norman looked at the slumbering Mary and decided to push her awake harshly. Mary frowned and was about to open her mouth when Norman clamped his hand on her lips, “Shh, be quiet.”
Mary turned and looked right into the wolf’s eyes. She gave a frightened startle, even with her exceptional modern battle skills, there was no way she could fight a wild animal.
The wolf stared at the lavish meal in front of it and pounced without hesitation, sprinting towards the couple.
Norman pushed Mary behind him and sidestepped to doge the wolf without hesitation. Mary reacted quickly and flung a rock at the advancing wolf.
“Watch out!” Mary shouted. The wolf growled as he pounced towards her angrily.
Norman turned his back towards Mary and kicked out viciously towards the wolf. Grasping the moment that the wolf had not recovered from his movement, Norman threw it out of the cave and stabbed a sharp stick towards it.
Norman lifted his brows and turned back into the cave as he heard the sound of heavy body hitting the floor and a painful howl.
“Don’t fret, we are safe now.” Norman’s voice was no longer cold but a little tender.
After a while, Norman carried a pile of wood and the wolf’s body into the cave, smiling as he looked at Mary.
This man was too powerful, thought Mary uneasily. She was puzzled; this man was powerful enough to cause her suspicions. What were his intentions for tormenting her so?
Mary didn’t have time to think as she watched Norman starting to build a fire. Mary thought it was hard to make a fire in here. But it was a matter of seconds for him to do it.
“Are you hungry?” Norman smiled at her complicated expression and built a rack with a few branches, roasting the wolf meat.
A gush of wind assaulted Norman as he spoke and a sharp hair pin was piercing his pulse. “Tell me, who the hell are you?”
Norman’s hands did not stop working, “What would you do if I don’t tell you, Miss Debeur?”
“Then I will kill you!” She stabbed the hairpin at his neck viciously.
