Norman’s light cough brought back her thoughts. Mary then realized her state of mind just now towards a person whom his face had never been seen before was absolutely crazy.
“Stay here for a while,” Norman stood up, took a look at Mary, turned and headed straight towards the deep forest of the peach blossom.
His back looked wide from behind, and his white coat was covered with dirt, but that still did not affect his divine elegance, instead, those dirts made him looked like a graceful water lily out of water.
It was rare to have seen this kind of man in this world.
Rare and dangerous it was.
Mary curled up her legs and took off her stocking which was dyed red by her blood. There was a huge swelling on her heel, blood was gushing out from the badly mutilated wound half-sized of a palm.
Thinking that she was the one who was protected by him, and also the one who was getting injured, there were some imbalance in her mind, but still she moved towards the pondside while bearing with the pain.
Upon touching the water surface, a chill rushed up all over her. Mary frowned slightly. They could have been dead if they fell into the pond just now.
Waving her hand in the water to clean the wound, the pain on her heel failed to cause any fluctuation on her expression. As if not knowing what pain is, she plunged her leg into the pond.
The icy coldness crept up from heel to back. The pain as if frozen, left only incessant cold. Yet, no reaction was seen on her face.
Without lifting up her leg, she immersed and cleaned her bloody stocking in the water. Blood smell spread out along with redness following the ripples of the water. Sounds came out from her behind.
She ignored the commotion and continued the cleaning, thinking it was Norman returning.
However, the commotion did not stop yet was coming closer and closer until reaching Mary’s side. The pond reflected its shadow and it was not in human form.
It was in the form of a critter!
Mary turned around and noticed it was a white bunny. It disappeared in the bushes in a blink of eyes.
“Why do you have to ruin yourself this way?”Norman’s voice came from behind. He was a bit surprised when he saw her dipping her leg in the pond that way.
He can absolutely feel that it was a pond formed for millennium and the invasion of the cold was far from any ordinary people’s tolerance.
Yet, an ordinary woman like her was still able to keep a straight face.
“If I don’t do it now,” Mary squeezed her stocking hardly, her smile faded, eyelids sank, “it won’t be just pain that easy.”
The coldness of the water might not be able to relieve the inflammation, but it can frost the wound. Once the wound was infected, the await of a tragic death in this desolate place was the only fear faced.
Norman, holding a few bundles of herb, walked towards Mary and knelt down next to her. His arm extended towards Mary’s heel but Mary moved her leg away immediately.
“What are you doing?” Mary lifted her eyebrow, her muscle tensed. He was a friend but also a foe, therefore his existence was a threat to her.
Norman, though slightly shocked by her reaction, put the herbs inside his mouth and chewed. “Applying medicine,” he uttered clearly although with the herbs in his mouth.
Concise and lacking courtesy, his reply made her relieved and willing to reach her leg out towards him.
Norman spat out the herbs and smeared them on her wound, observing the condition of the flesh, he asked, “Feeling better?”
“Still fine,” Mary felt the coolness spanning from her heel, she frowned, her expression still appeared indifferently.
After applying the herbs on Mary’s wound, Norman went to the pondside to clean his hands which were full of dirt. His movement was graceful, as if any movement he made was holy and sacred.
Not knowing how long had passed, the light from the above began to dwindle, the quiet and tranquil valley fell into a deadly silence, as if no other creatures were present.
The air in the surrounding started to become cold. Promptly, Norman set up a bonfire using the woods he picked from the bushes.
“Hurry up,” Mary spoke calmly, glancing the unlighted bonfire in front of her, but there was a trace of joy deep in her eyes.
Mary wrapped around herself due to the cold. Even though she would not get infected from the wound she got, she did not have the confidence to withstand the night fog and frost with her weak body.
Seeing how Mary behaved, Norman laughed out loud. Not knowing whether it was just plain illusion or something else, that smile made her felt like nothing was going to stand in his way.
That moment, he exhibited the aura of “one man can hold out against ten thousand”.
Mary believed he had that strength, as she was lost in thought, Norman set the bonfire ablaze after rubbing a cigarette-like cylinder roll taken from his pocket.
Flame soared up from the bottom of the bonfire, the bright light illuminated their surrounding, warming the air around it.
Once her body was warmed, Mary’s stiff limbs became flexible again, she gazed at Norman who stood beside the bonfire. The raging blaze bounced ceaselessly, making Norman’s appearance loomed.
“It is indeed hard to take your life away,” Mary glimpsed at Norman, coldness in her eyes rose to her cheeks.
This man was undoubtedly too dangerous.
