“Humph!” Ralph Debeur’s face twisted in wrath, his own daughter ripped his side consort’s clothes in shreds in public?
“Look at your precious daughter that you’ve spoiled! Someone come and give her ten flogs!”
“My lord!” The side consort and Amy were appalled. Taking a look at Amy’s pale face, the side consort went and begged for Lord Regent’s forgiveness. Even though she was humiliated and was embarrassed, this was her precious daughter for goodness sake!
“You have such insolence and disrespect towards your elders,” The lord regent looked at them coldly, “How dare you try to intercede with me! You should retreat as well, from this day on, you are grounded to your room and will not be released unless it’s upon my orders!”
“But my lord! Amy’s engagement…” The side consort looked pleadingly at him.
“Choose a date and send her to the Minister Mansion by sedan chair.” The lord regent looked at the sputtering side consort and sneered coldly. The side consort was shaken out of her stupor and watched helplessly as the servants dragged Amy off. Amy’s cries reached her ears.
“Go back to your chamber. Are you trying to humiliate yourself further in this attire?” Seeing the side consort staying rooted on the spot, Ralph said coldly.
Mary stood calmly and silently in her place and lowered her eyes to the ground as she witnessed the side consort’s departure. She maintained her position even as she felt a cold gaze on her body.
“What are you doing here?” Ralph suddenly noticed Mary and asked in confusion.
“The side consort called me.” Mary lifted her face and Ralph frowned as he saw her features clearly. She was completely different from her former look. Gone was her bloated face and in place was a refreshing pointed chin that was alluring like the summer blooms and a detached expression, making Mary as breathtaking as a master painting.
How can this be the Fool?
Naturally she looked more and more like that woman.
“You should go back to your room as well.” Ralph said flippantly and left.
Returning to her place, Mary narrowed her eyes at the light and picked up the guest list again.
Who sent this list and information?
Upon the feast, the grounded side consort was released due to the lack of hostess. Because of this, all matters were handed to the side consort.
Mary winced as Daisy stood in front of her moping.
“What is it?” Mary asked coolly.
“Milady, no one informed us about His Lordship’s birthday feast this year.” Daisy watched Mary carefully as she slowly grated.
It was public knowledge that the Lord Regent did not like this daughter, regardless of his relationship with his ex-wife and his blood running in Mary’s veins. Anyone who knew this would disapprove of such coldness.
Daisy did not know how Mary would react. Although Miss was different from her usual self, Daisy was still not sure.
“It’s not of great importance.” Mary looked to the side, her voice even.
She was this kind of person, cold and uncaring. It was because of the inevitable situation did she continue to stay here.
“But, I heard Prince Sebastian is coming.” Daisy faltered and pursed her lips.
“I know.” Mary looked calmly at Daisy. It was not easy for her to obtain this kind of information in her position.
Daisy’s expression was torn and worried when she looked at Mary, “Milady, it would be unwise of you to act rashly again.”
Although Daisy was not fond of the fourth son of the Queen, it was a good thing that Lady Mary would attend the feast for the sake of Prince Sebastian.
But…
“I will attend father’s feast,” Mary laughed coldly. “Come here, Daisy.”
Although she didn’t have any resentment towards Sebastian Stuart, the former Mary was dead because of him. Naturally, as she was residing in this body right now, she would seek revenge for her sake.
“Do as I say, don’t let anyone find it out.” Mary whispered beside Daisy’s ear and stood to leave, not caring about the expression on Daisy’s face.
This banquet was to celebrate the Lord Regent’s Birthday. Because it was not a big celebration, only a small number of people were invited. They were all the most powerful elites in court. The security at Debeur Manor was tight; those low-rank officials that didn’t receive an invitation couldn’t even get their gifts in.
The whole mansion was cleaned inside out, rare garden plants were imported and tended after. Even the water in the garden ponds were sprinkled with fresh flower petals, making them seem refreshing and elegant. Although it was a small feast, the mansion was decorated lavishly to pull string among the lords of the court.
This was the side consort’s first time holding a banquet since she took over the estate affairs. She was beyond careful and allowed no mistakes. From the moment she began to plan this feast, she arranged everything personally, striving to make this banquet a festive but low-key event.
