There was a time I had once gone on a killing spree. I had turned an entire town into ruins in less than an hour.
No one in the two was strong enough to stop me so I slaughtered them mercilessly and even enjoyed watching them die.
Seeing them running toward me made me think they had come to life.
I began to wonder where I was. I didn’t understand a thing.
For a moment I was talking to a girl who seemed to be Tina’s sister.
She was claiming I had killed the girl I loved.
In the next second, she had suddenly vanished, replaced by an entire village who were holding pitchforks and were running towards me.
I would have killed them without hesitation the second time if I wasn’t weak but the situation in my body didn’t even allow me to move my hands and talk more or less running.
I watched as the villagers approached me.
Immediately they got to me they all stopped looking at me.
Though they were sure I was weak they couldn’t see any fear or weakness in my eyes. They were afraid I would kill them as soon as they attacked.
“Let’s attack him together. He can’t kill all of us at once if we attack him together.” One of the villagers who was a chubby-looking man said.
The others nodded and together they rushed toward me.
I looked at the villagers who were close to me and smiled. I knew I was helpless against their attacks. There was no way I was going to defend myself. I couldn’t move any part of my body.
Suddenly, the splitting headache came back and this time it was even stronger.
It had left me for the first time.
My head began to spin and I was slowly losing consciousness.
Before I knew it I lost control of my body and my consciousness was drawn into the darkness.
****
“Where am I,” I muttered as I opened my eyes.
I couldn’t see anything as it was dark. I couldn’t even see my fingers. Though I could see in the dark this place was darker than what my eyes could see.
I started walking around the place not knowing where I was going. I had no sense of direction as I couldn’t see.
I wondered if my tribulation had already begun because I couldn’t understand a thing since I woke up. Everything seemed to be a dream to me. But at the same time, it looked like reality.
I couldn’t understand what was happening.
Suddenly I couldn’t move anymore. I felt my movement had been restricted.
I tried to move but my body wouldn’t budge from the spot.
“We should kill him.”
“Yes, how should we kill him?”
“We feed him to the wild animals in the forest.”
“No, we throw him inside a boiling oil.”
“No, let’s burn him.”
“We should think of another punishment, all those are too light.”
Voices drifted into my ears from the dark place I was.
Slowly the dark place I was in started to become bright.
Soon enough I could see where I was.
Immediately everywhere became bright I realized I was tied to a pole.
There were people in my front muttering all kinds of words and punishment that should be meted out to me.
I looked at the sky and saw it was almost dawn. I knew once the sun rose it would kill me faster than the punishment they were saying.
I knew the people who were shouting all kinds of punishment that should be meted out to me.
It was the villagers of one of the villages I had turned into ruins when I was on a killing spree.
Some minutes later I looked at the sky and noticed the sun rising.
Immediately, I smiled lightly. I knew once the ray of the sun touches me I would be burnt faster than any of them would be able to react.
Soon the rays of the sun reached where I was tied. I was expecting to feel a searing pain all over my body but I didn’t feel anything. I felt refreshed.
“What in hell is happening? Why aren’t I getting burned by the sun?” I mumbled.
“Maybe it’s not strong enough,” I said to myself.
I looked around wondering what was wrong but couldn’t find anything. Why aren’t I burning? Kept asking myself this question over and over.
What was wrong? Did I suddenly become immune to sun rays? That was impossible. Yeah, I couldn’t get immune to the sun’s rays.
There was another reason why I might not be burnt. That was if my powers were taken away.
I felt that was impossible because it wasn’t possible to take away vampire powers.
But then I felt it was also possible.
When I woke up I was as weak as anything. Also, I was still weak.
I looked around and saw the villagers still arguing about what they should do to me.
I wondered why they were having trouble deciding my punishment.
Since the sun couldn’t kill me I had to wait for them to decide my punishment so I’ll be free from all this.
After arguing for what felt like an eternity to me the villagers turned to me.
One of the villagers whom I remembered to be the village head at that time when I massacred the village came out to the front and faced me.
“We have decided to punish you with fire so you would atone for your sins.” The village head, a tall but lanky old man said to me.
I sighed and didn’t say anything. Even if I wanted to say something I was too weak to say anything. Even if I wasn’t weak there was nothing I could say.
I watched as the villagers jubilated when the village head told me of my punishment.
I was just wishing they would stop their nonsense and put an end to my life as soon as possible. I was growing tired of their games.
“Let’s go prepare the fire to burn him.” One of the villagers said and immediately the remaining nodded in agreement with him before they ran off in different directions.
After waiting for what seems like an eternity. I saw the villagers coming back with logs of wood while some were crying about things they would use to burn me.
Soon enough they started dropping the logs in front.
I watched as the log grew into a huge mountain.
When the villagers were satisfied with the logs they all conveyed them back to the pole I was tied.
“Tie him to a log.” The village head said.
Immediately two hefty men came and untied me from the pole I was tied to. I was too weak to resist the men.
I recognized the men as the first victims of my killing spree that day.
They were the guards of the village and had tried to stop me from entering the village.
Soon the guards tied me to one of the logs and placed it at the top.
Surprisingly, during all this while I couldn’t feel pain. It was as if I was numb to it. Well, I couldn’t care about it.
This was my tribulation for all my sins.
Hopefully, I’ll be free of all these troubles.
I hope the Gods will forgive me for all the innocent souls that have been killed.
I wasn’t feeling remorse or anything I just felt I should say my last prayer.
If I was given a second chance I would still do what I did. I thought.
But the question was would I be given a second chance?
My thought was disrupted when I heard the scream of the excitement of the villagers as they poured some kind of liquid on the logs.
I wondered what they were pouring on the log.
Soon they finished pouring the liquid on the log to their heart’s content.
Immediately they set the log on fire.
Immediately the log caught fire and it spread around rapidly in less than a minute.
I closed my eyes waiting for the fire to burn me to death so I could be relieved of all this.
I couldn’t understand a thing that had been happening.
Suddenly I opened my eyes. There was something strange. I couldn’t feel the heat of the fire or I’ll rather say I couldn’t feel the fire burning me.
Though it had caught me and was burning my body I couldn’t feel any pain all I could see was my body being burnt.
I looked on with surprise as my whole body burned.
When the fire caught my head I could strangely see everything.
It was as if my consciousness had been removed from my body and was now watching the body burn.
I watched as my body burnt to ashes and the villagers jubilated in joy.
What the hell was happening?” Why am I still alive even after my body was burnt? Aren’t the villagers seeing me where I stood?
I sighed and decided to go to the village head to catch his attention.
The fact that I was weak, I staggered towards the village head like a drunkard.
Immediately I got to his front. I raised my hands with difficulty and sent a smack right to his face.
Unfortunately, my hands passed through the air and hit the empty air.
I looked at my hands in surprise and tried again but the same thing happened.
What is the name of the heavens that could be happening? Here the villagers were jubilating because I was dead and here I was seeing myself.
“Had the gods heard me and answered my prayers,” I muttered.
“That shouldn’t be the case I had too many lives on my hands so there’s no way God would forgive me and answer my prayers so easily,” I muttered.
“Well that isn’t important, I had to look for a way to leave this place,” I continued muttering.
I had to look for a way to make all the weakness in my body leave me.
Thinking of this I staggered outside the village slowly resting at intervals.
After a minute or two I finally got outside the village.
I sighed and turned to look at the village one last time but what I had seen was shocking.
Immediately I felt the world spinning around me and the mysterious headache came back to me.
I didn’t know when I closed my eyes accepting the darkness that came along with it.
***
“He’s a monster.”
“Don’t go near him, he’ll kill you the way he killed his parents.”
“Come on don’t help him leave him to die that way. He doesn’t deserve sympathy.”
“Monster.”
“I hope he dies.”
Voices trailed into my ears as I struggled to open my eyes.
Immediately after I opened my eyes I found myself in another place far different from where I was.
I looked around and saw someone coming straight at me.
Immediately I wanted to stand up to shift from the way but I was too weak to do that.
I wanted to shout but my mouth wouldn’t move.
I watched helplessly as the person came and passed through me without any obstructions.
Immediately I looked around and noticed the people passing by couldn’t see me.
It was the same case in the village.
“Don’t go near him.”
A voice drifted into my ears.
Immediately I looked over and saw a woman telling her child not to go near a body lying lifelessly on the ground.
Immediately I saw the figure tears flowed down my face.
That was me when I was still young.
I looked at the lifeless body lying on the ground.
I tried to stand up but my knees gave way and I fell back.
Though I knew people couldn’t see me nor feel my touch I could help but feel for the body on the ground.
I had a quite sad story when I was young.
I was abandoned by everyone in the village. They looked down on me and treated me with disdain.
