Without another glimpse at his whining male, Deimos converses solemnly with his Beta taking the documents from Ragon’s hands reviewing them whilst they stroll out of the castle.
My heart pulsates with an afflicting turmoil to the cries of my pup and I am unable to turn a blind eye to him as I take faint steady steps back towards the office.
I cannot be as austere as Deimos is with him for he is my firstborn, he is my life. I wish to be more lenient and understanding with some of his mistakes, to spoil him as much as I can for I know after he becomes a juvenile I cannot afford to do so.
Pushing open the door I encounter my male sulking in the corner of the room tears fresh and hurried as they flow down his cheeks, his knees clutched to his chest he trembles severely the coldness of the room too much for his fragile body to withstand.
“Kal,” I whisper as he instantly raises his face to meet my concerned eyes.
“Mama.” He whimpers his sobs turning wilder to my presence, he is complaining.
“Come here.” I console as I sit upon the cold floor breathlessly alongside him drawing my male to my chest. He coils his tiny arms around my waist nuzzling into my warmth weeping faintly.
“I sowwy mama, I no do it again. I pwomise.” He speaks peeking up at me with his apologetic orbs.
“Why did you do that, Kal?”
“Because mama and papa no love me anymowe. You only love this.” He answers pointing at my belly whilst my eyes widen to his words. Why would he conceive this way, did our actions unknowingly make him feel so?
Yes we do not pay much attention to him as before for Deimos is often occupied handling my nausea whilst I am often resting for too much stress on my body weakens me and I am to give birth in two weeks.
“Of course, not. Mama and papa love you so much, my male. Look here.” I say seizing his palm planting it on my belly. “You will have a playmate soon. Are you not excited? You will be a big brother.”
“I no want.” He grumbles turning his face away his lips jutted out in a pout. He seems to always hold this reaction when we discourse of his sibling no matter what we do to make him look forward to the pup’s birth. This has been recurring since last month, his dislike for the pup abruptly sprouted out of nowhere.
“It will be enjoyable for guess what? Papa shall buy more ice cream and more toys for the both of you and you can even be permitted to go out alone if you prove yourself.” My words promptly gather his attention as he shifts to meet my eyes in awe.
“Weally? I get all that?” He asks as I behold the shimmer of enthusiasm that twinkles vividly in his greens.
“Yes, my male. I assure you it shall be a joyous event, you shall come to cherish your sibling. But you must train harder so you can protect the little one, Kal. It is your duty.”
“Otay mama. I will.” He responds in swift obedience to my terms, no hesitance no protest. Deimos does not see that Kal can follow if we lecture him kindly at times, punishment is not always the right path to teach him right from wrong.
“Now, how about a long warm soak in the tub? Would you like that?” I question a grin on my face for I know how much he treasures such baths. He has a deep connection with water, be it in our castle’s tub or out in nature.
“Yes! Can you make the bubbles? Can I bwing my duckies?”
“Of course, you can have anything you wish my male.” I boop his nose to which he giggles noisily his budding teeth bared to me his terror of this place dying replaced by the warmth I provide him.
Standing up I crouch down to pick up the little one to plant him on my hip, his favourite spot to perch on. He assays to tickle me along the way as I carry him up the stairs yet he laughs as though he is the one being tickled. I can never understand the antics of this male.
If Deimos perceives me climbing the stairs like this that too whilst carrying Kal he would truly be perturbed with me. He has a fear that I shall slip and fall or that Kal shall be his usual mischievous self and do something for me to lose my balance. But I am athletic and healthy and most of the time I can manage it quite well. It is not difficult.
“Your haiw smells nice mama,” Kal whispers in my ear as though he is spewing a secret only meant for me to heed.
“What does my hair smell like?”
“Like stawbewwies.”
“Like strawberries? My goddess truly? I must have still some left then, why don’t you seek for it and present me one, Kal?” I claim as he nods with avidness his slim miniature fingers rummaging through my hair hunting for the fruit.
I pant exhaustedly as I arrive at the top of the staircase my male still combing through my hair in his strawberry hunt. Carrying him into the room, I pull open the cupboards extracting his onesies for the night and some freshly warmed towels for his bath.
“Kal, go prepare for your bath,” I instruct setting him free as the pup leaps forward stripping himself free of his clothes flinging them to the ground whilst opening up a drawer to fetch his rubber ducks.
With a sleepy sigh, I clean up after him picking up his clothes to propel them into the laundry basket. Kal would never act this way in the presence of his father for he knows he shall be scolded.
“Mama, I weady!”
“I am coming my male,” I say whilst I trudge towards the washroom to twist the shower knob for the little one as he cannot reach it yet. He waits patiently behind me with his ducks in his hand observing what it is I am doing. Picking up the liquid soap I spill it directly beneath the powerful gushing water and wait as it foams up to produce the sight he likes.
“Bubbles!” He squeals in delight bouncing on the heels of his feet dancing with his squeaky toys.
“What are the rules, Kal?”
“No going inside the watew. A-And no twying to swim.” He states the words Deimos made him memorize. When we first bathed him in this tub after Deimos trained him to swim Kal began to try to dive underwater and almost choked and drowned in the process.
The tub is not like nature’s eternal rivers rather it is unsafe, slippery and causes him to fall. If he did trip he would struggle to come to the surface so Deimos warned him he could have these baths only if he obeys his two rules.
Offering him a terse nod of acknowledgement I pick him up submerging him in the warm frothy water. He settles in locating each duck in their seats upon the rim of the tub, he has a conversation with them and for each, he also has a name.
“Can mama stay or do your ducks want me to leave?” I question a teasing smile on my face as I regard him.
“No, you can stay mama.”
“Yes, Alpha Kal. I shall abide by your wishes my king.” I snicker sitting upon the mat in front of the tub. Dipping my fingers into the water I find it is lukewarm perfect for his delicate skin.
And just like that, we spend time together mother and son. I stay close to him guarding my male as he plays and converses with all the rubber ducks Deimos bought for him whilst he tries to rupture the bubbles one by one. “Mama look. Look at this.” He calls me as he cups some bubbles in his palms setting them as a block over his head whilst he stays still expecting for me to figure it out.
“And what is this?”
“It is a cwown mama because I am your king.” He expresses his lips drawn back to expose his wide grin to me as I laugh at his capers, he truly is the cutest of all. That looks like a crown in no way yet I play along with him.
“And this crown, would you be able to make one for me?”
“Why?” He asks with a tilt to his head as I hurriedly fake upsetness to his words.
“I thought if Kal is my King then I should be your Queen no? I see you do not feel the same way.” I blanket my palms over my eyes appearing as though I am weeping, sniffing and whining I linger for his reply.
“I-I sowwy mama. Wait I… I do it.” He hastens in his actions as a means to comfort me whilst I slyly peek at him through my fingers. The little pup cups more bubbles in his palms and he instantly reaches forward depositing it upon my head his chest faintly heaving unsettled he has hurt me.
“What is this? A crown? For me, Kal?”
“Yes, mama is my queen.” Such a generous male of mine, so very sweet.
“Thank you my heart,” I mutter laying a tender kiss to his right plump cheek nuzzling into his neck as he giggles at my actions.
“That tickles mama!”
“Lumina.” Deimos’s unexpected voice has Kal and I quieten quickly both our eyes widened as we stare at each other like two deers caught in headlights. Placing my finger on my lips, I tell him to remain quiet and he nods in acceptance.
“Yes, my male?”
“Have you seen Kal? I am unable to find him, he is not in my office.” He says with a feeble knock on the bathroom door. I readily rise on my knees dragging the curtain close shielding the little one.
