“Shit.” He curses softly. I guess he doesn’t remember where I set it even though I reminded him over and over again in terms of its place.
“In the third drawer opposite the closet.” I shout down the hall my voice booming through the hollow passage.
“Thank you, my female.” His voice echoes back from the room as I walk downstairs slowly. I keep my eyes on every step. Deimos reprimanded me that I had a problem of not paying attention to it and slipped frequently before so I began to focus counting the steps in my head.
Every time I near the stairs it feels as if it is a test of resilience for me, taunting me if I can make it till the end. By the time I do reach the end using up every last drop of my energy I am a panting sweating mess. Climbing up is even harder, my male often carries me when he is in a close distance. Even if he was far and I very tired he would run all the way dropping his work just to carry me up the stairs.
“Alpha, how are you feeling today?” Elriam helps me down the last three steps her palm resting upon my back holding me to her softly. She knows of my intense morning sickness so she often inquires of my health.
“Do I look good? Like, am I glowing?” I ask her staring into her eyes searching for truth unsure of how I truly look. I cannot trust Deimos as he says I look beautiful even when I am covered with puke and sweat.
“Of course, you look freshened up and bright. You shine, Alpha.” She replies as we head to the pack kitchen. No traces of lies can be found so I believe her words.
“Thank goddess. I just destroyed the bathroom and went straight to the mirror to fix myself up.” I chuckle with a shake to my head.
“Oh no, are you feeling all right? You must be hungry.” Elriam says scanning my face her eyes filled with concern. I am always hungry, she knows this.
“I feel better now, I can wait for the cake.” I snicker an evil look crossing my eyes. Cake has become my new moon blessed. Last month my male said I liked cake more than him.
“I think you have gotten a new addiction, Alpha. I feel quite sad for Ragon with the number of drives he has been on to buy you cakes.” She utters. Since Gio’s pack is located quite far from the center where all the stores are located, Deimos gave Ragon the duty to satisfy my cravings with cake runs. I would sometimes wake Ragon up before the sun rose for one and would finish it for breakfast.
“What my pup wants, it gets.” I smirk licking my lips already salivating on the thought of its softness melting in my mouth sliding down my throat with ease.
Our conversation is interrupted with the loud steps of the females’ as they enter in groups into the kitchen holding ingredient packets and bowls. Their voices mingled together filled with chatter and chuckles. They stop and bow deeply when their eyes find me in the middle of the room back leaning upon the counter for support.
“Luna Lumina.” They greet me with sparkling eyes and a soft smile on their lips. Some mated females look at my belly with yearning and the elders find joy with its growth. They told me it was a beautiful feeling of being a mother one that even a mate bond cannot compare to.
“Shall we start this then?” I question scrubbing my hands with foam soap and drying it with a heated towel. These products are kept separate and changed regularly only for me, as my skin has become extremely sensitive. Deimos makes sure even the tiniest of things that are in line with my body are taken care of without thought and with perfection.
“Luna, we can do this on our own. We don’t wish to cause you to strain yourself.” Mia comes forth speaking of her worry. She has gotten closer to me these months, the wolf who stands first to come to my aid among others. Elriam sends a low growl and a flash of fang her way. My beta thinks Mia overdoes things just to get attention but I say my beta is jealous which makes me laugh as there is no need for her to be. No one can replace Elriam.
“No, I must help. Gianna is like my own daughter and I will do everything to make her birthday special.” I utter as they nod in understanding.
We stand around the counter with a paper and pen lying in the middle discussing the menu for the party as well as the recipes and ingredients. In the end, we head with traditional Italian food as Giovanni believes that is what Gia has to grow up with so it can remind her of home wherever in the world she is.
As the sun sets we are almost finished with the preparations. Music plays softly in the background flowing through the windows. The males’ have put up the fairy lights and set the picnic tables.
“Where are the paper plates? Give them to the males so they can prepare the seats.” I say whilst cleaning the counter with a wet towel. We made quite the mess.
I peek at the clock and the kitchen door. They should be here any second now. And with that thought, the door bangs open as the two sweating males’ rush inside carrying plastic bags filled with groceries and snacks. Deimos and Ragon are panting hair and chest drenched.
“Are we late? We bought everything on your list.” Deimos says putting the bags on the counter with Ragon following his action. Deimos removes the crumpled list from his back pocket scanning through them making sure he bought them all. I could have asked two of the other wolves to take the trip but I wanted Deimos to go personally, he is Gia’s uncle after all.
“Yes a little late.” I whisper removing the frosting containers from the bag giving them to the females so they can finally finish decorating the cake.
“Why is their damn grocery store so far?” Ragon wheezes body bent down palms upon his knees. “We could have taken the car, Alpha!” He says. It must have been hard running all the way, shopping quickly, and running back whilst carrying the heavy bags in a small period of time.
