Closer – Part II

Book:DEIMOS (Alpha of Alphas) Published:2024-6-2

“The problem you have on your hands is that you don’t have enough place to keep the inventory that the pack possesses therefore you need to build another warehouse which is possible as we have plenty of free land. My wolves are really good at building , they would be pleased to aid you.” I tell him the problem and the solution he was trying to figure out while the pack watches and listens quietly impressed.
Putting my dish in the wash I quietly rush out to the warmth of my room preparing for the night. I wanted to finish the book I was reading as that’s the only thing I seem to get excited about. Lying on my bed looking at the ceiling I twist and turn trying to get into a comfortable position flinching when the door to my room creaks open.
Deimos enters with a pillow and blanket, walking to the couch in front of my bed getting ready to sleep. I am speechless as this has only ever happened in my dreams. I wish to pinch myself to get up from the dream but everything feels so real therefore I see no need to. After a while, Deimos’s voice breaks through the silence.
“Thank you.” He tells me softly.
“For what?” I question him.
“For coming to my aid.” He answers me.
“Your welcome,” I tell him with a soft smile letting the silence surround us once more.
“Deimos?” I call out to him softly.
“Hmm?” He hums to me.
“Why are you here?” I ask him the question that kept lingering in my mind. He answers me with silence but speaks out after a while.
“I don’t know. I don’t know…. but I wish to find out.” It wasn’t the answer I was expecting but it was good enough for me. “Tomorrow, be ready by 3 pm after lunch. I wish to take you somewhere.” The minute he tells me those words I sit up watching him.
“What?” I ask him hesitantly. Perhaps I misheard.
“I won’t repeat myself. Good night.” He turns around on the couch showing his back to me as I lie back down looking at the ceiling with a big smile on my face.
The whole night I twist and turn under the sheets, as excitement sends butterflies through my stomach. Is it our first date? Did he actually ask me out on a date? Does he finally want to get to know me?
As daylight seeps through the windows and my eyes flutter open they search for Deimos only to find nothing. It looks like he wasn’t here last night, all proof that he slept here wiped clean. Looking at the clock on my bed stand it shows 2:15 pm making me nearly scream. How could I have slept so long? I even missed breakfast and lunch! Goddess, I was going to be late for the date!
Rushing to the bathroom getting ready I stumble down the stairs putting on my jacket. As I look up zipping up my jacket Deimos stands there looking at his watch wearing a black shirt and blue jeans with shades across his eyes. As I stand there admiring the specimen in front of me he walks towards me looking at me through his shades.
“You are late.” His husky voice breaks me free from my moment.
“I apologize, I overslept,” I tell him looking at my feet embarrassed to which he doesn’t answer leading me towards the car helping me get in the passenger seat.
As we drive I ask him no questions, he takes me through the hills adorned with fresh green pastures near the river. I am in awe of its beauty. Rolling the window down I feel the soft wind blowing across my strands of hair as I take in a deep breath filling my lungs with fresh oxygen. My heart feels content.
Parking in a deserted area, he gets out coming to my side opening the door to my seat helping me get out. We don’t speak a word, he leads me to the top of the hill as I follow him quietly. As he moves away from my sight, the beauty of the place ignites me with peace. We both quietly look at the water and trees we are surrounded by.
“This is my haven. I came and still come here when I need peace.” He tells me softly. This is the first thing he told me about himself. I listen quietly to his words taking in as much as everything I can. “I brought you here as I promised I would share everything I can with you.” He tells me while looking at me.
“This was the place that provided me refuge in the past when I felt I was drowning. Back then I didn’t know to swim. I had to learn on my own. This place…. this place is very important to me.” His eyes close as he breaths in the air and whispers to me. He is…. he is finally opening up to me.
“It’s beautiful. Thank you for bringing me here.” I tell him softly earning a nod in return.
“Come.” He leads me deeper within the trees that opens a pathway to a small cabin inside. As he opens the door to the cabin my heart beats faster. It’s just us in here, him and me. Alone. Doesn’t seem like a good idea.
As I move around the cabin feeling the wood beneath my fingertips, I look towards Deimos as he lights the fire to the firewood. My eyes catch a carving on the wood as I move towards it reading it.
